Anyone else hate that they decided to go with the awful 3D look?
The models look cheap as hell. This would have been a day one buy for me if they had stuck with the famous crisp, stylish and detailed 2D visuals that the series is known for.

Everyone hates the 3D look, but it has 50 characters and it is expensive to make it 2D
But that doesnt matter since the gameplay is great
Buy it and support SNK
What makes you think 2D is more expensive?
They've been doing it for ages now. This was a mainline KOF entry being available for the first time on current-gen consoles. They should have given it their very best.
Every single sprite, not character, SPRITE took one day to make at 60fps
think about that
desu I like the 3d more. SNK was right to go with pandering the tekken audience.
2D is way more expensive in that the skill and talent required is scarce and it's a very time consuming art that has diminishing returns as there are more people who prefer 3D than there are 2D, even beautiful 2D like XIII. If you try to say that making a sprite is easier than a model, also keep in mind that SNK does pixel by pixel, meaning that detailed touch they have is the result of laboriously going through and dotting it one by one.
>60fps
>sprite
the game runs at 60 fps I meant
It's also the proper new game SNK has output for a while. Budget was low.
2D sprites require a lot of man hours, with each sprite having to individually made.
With 3D, you render a 3D model, give it the proper skeleton, and then manipulate it to get the animations you want.
Yeah that shit is too expensive so going 3D was the logical choice especially if they wanted future games. Now this series might actually have a future and we know for a fact it will look better.
Better than Tekken? Doubtful. But that is far from the point, i want a good looking KoF down the line with its core gameplay intact.
Shut up, it looks fine. Play the Demo.
Love the game BTW. BUY IT.
I will get it in a year when the PC version comes out
Style change to 3D is NOT the problem. The problem is how bland and lifeless the characters models are. There are 3D fighting games that look great. KoFXIV just looks like an iphone game ported to the PS4.
The 3D models are barely detailed, the hits are so flaccid and have no impact whatsoever, from a presentation standpoint the game is shit. But most people know how good the gameplay is so the game isn't completely ruined.
another sprite, fucking beautiful
fuck this visual discussion, lets talk about why team Mexico is the best
Dino seems to suck in the game
Ramon has a goofy ass run
Angel has a voice that gives ear cancer.
I want to play it so bad, but I cant, yet
Rather this than the ugly sprites from XII and XIII. HD sprites would've look really cartoony too.
WOOHOOOOO
This game is completely fucked.
Even worse netcode than SFV, which I didn't even think was fucking possible at this point in history.
We have fucking robots on mars and shit but we can't design a goddamn multiplayer system that works as intended.
robots on mars have a shitload of input delay.
From what I've been hearing the main problem seems to be syncing issues making it hit or miss. When it hit's it appears to run great, but when it misses oh boy. Strangely enough the people who have tried party mode have reported to liking it so far and not running into as much trouble.
We have only been able to send humans to the moon. Haven't even visited mars yet. Dumb tin-foil hat wearing fuck.
I don't care if this game is in 3D
I would still fap to kim while playing it
team Korea is best team.
Get off my board you degenerate whore.
what did i do wrong? have an unpoplar opinion?
What I think is a bog problem is the game is just boring to watch. It can be pretty fun to play but isn't exactly stand out, but moves feel like they lack impact and effects are terrible. they also animated the models to replicate the sprites movements which just makes them look really bad and big combos less impressive
Also I hate the way when a match ends it fades to blank for 10 seconds, just kills all hype
>Now this series might actually have a future and we know for a fact it will look better.
Unlikely, 14 probably won't do so well in part cause many were put off by the graphics. There is very little buzz about the game and it is only on one system
They should have done one of their other franchises which has smaller casts
mmcafe.com
>Making the game run in full 60FPS was a true pain and as a result, the flashier looking graphics and effects got cut out. Of course there was the option of going variable in framerate, but the devs decided to go consistant.
The framerate was behind the issue, not to mention in that same interview they mentioned they didn't have the tools/environment for making 3D games before development started hence them making everything from scratch.
>didn't have the tools/environment for making 3D games
That just makes it seem like making a fighting game for this gen consoles was a really stupid idea. Like remake metal slugs in 3d to practice first, if they hinted kof could come next everyone would have bought it just to support them
Plus if they didn't have that at all and struggled to get one up and running it just sounds like the studio was in a mess
What i meant was that the guys who made the game will have experience in modeling in 3D now.
Sure but they also fucked over arguably their biggest franchise doing it, there are better ways to get good than that
You can't be a degenerate if you fap to JUSTICE man.
justice man, more like Korean dilf.
Well, they were a mess at the time especially with new pachinko regulations in place that would force them to modify all their machines thus bringing them even bigger losses so they just said fuck it and cut out that division which was a third of the company. Not to mention the year before they started development they were bleeding money. I think them starting with KoF makes sense since it's like their most widely known property. Had they experimented with anything else I think they would've surely failed. Also they already tried a 3D metal slug around the time the maximum impact games came out and it was a colossal failure. It looked pretty shit. Had they experimented with it people would've gotten even more pissed especially since the goofy animations in that game are what gave it part of it's charm and I imagine it would be even harder to replicate in 3D since it's so much more outlandish.
Maybe not so.Most people seem to be receiving the game pretty well. The one thing that brings it down is yes, it's looks, but over all it seems to be well received. look at reviews. I'm not saying to follow them blindly, but the way the game looks seems to be a concern, but that is outweighed by the gameplay and the content packed in the game. Form your opinion, the ones who have given it a negative score among the users only looked at that the graphics and nothing else. Even if you don't like meta critic look at reviews and see for yourself. Many will point out it's faults, but the positives appear to outweigh the negatives. When one judges anything one should looks at the whole thing and judge it accordingly.
metacritic.com
>Had they experimented with anything else I think they would've surely failed.
And an experiment with your biggest IP is an even worse idea, especially cause a fighting game is not cheap, requires a lot of work and isn't even that popular a genre. Only nether realm games are selling well. KoF doesn't not have the power that whatever it looks like people will buy including casuals, so a bad first impression visually will put a lot off
Plus I said remake the metal slug games in 3d, as in the same game but 3d not make a weird 3d action game. Doing that style of remake with any of their non fighting games would be cheaper and easier to pump out meaning they could get a lot of practice in
I don't mind that the graphics aren't the best looking of this gen if the game is fun and I can play with my bros.
If SNK can get some money and experience with XIV and invest it on their future games, then it's a better idea than investing everything on another expensive 2D game and go bankrupt again.
this guy gets it
Try party mode, apparently it's the online mode with the least issues according to the people who tried it. It's strange.
XIV has to do well for that to work. Seeing as the other thread is needing to be bumbed I think we are looking at XII numbers here
I'll only get the game in a few days, but sure, this is the mode I'm most curious to see actually.
I haven't actually seen anything supporting this, just posts on here
Sup Forums threads aren't really the best indicator that a game is doing well. At least in my city I heard from sellers that a lot of people were looking for the game and the reviews were really positive until now.
>what makes you think 2D is more expensive-
user KoF is pretty niche. It doesn't need to sell millions it just needs to profit. As for the thread being bumped, like I said KoF is not as widely known among the english peaking world as other fighters and if you read it people are organizing shit to play online/party mode. People not posting doesn't mean people not playing, if it means anything at all it could mean the people interested in it might be playing.
tfw you want this game to paly as your husbandos but you don't have a PS4...
Only one way to find out.
I wonder if it took extra work to make alt palettes as customizable as they are
>Sup Forums threads aren't really the best indicator that a game is doing well.
Actually it isn't a bad one. A game with a big release will likely have a lot of threads negative or positive. NMS had a very negative launch as seen here but sold very well for example. This place was literally filled with overwatch posts for weeks. And sellers said their was interest is as vague as you can get
No KoF still needs to sell a decent amount to do well. XIII sold 600k which is a decent amount, and I haven't really seen much to suggest it is doing that well. People can easily post and play, and I've also seen a few asking for lobbies with no one playing
You really sound like you are trying to find excuses
Didn't 13 sell an extra 300k on Steam?
yeah but that was a few years later, I was more counting what it did earlier on and what I imagine they are hoping for. At least in the 400k-600k range taking into account just one system now, taking into account many moved over to ps4 and some would have multiple anyway so would just get it on what they could
Only thing to do is to wait and see. I won't try to convince you to buy it or not, it's your money as you shouldn't convince people that it will fail to dissuade them. People can make decision on their own. Like I said only thing to do now is to wait.
>convince
Who was trying to convince? Just pointing out what the situation looks like, and seeing as that other thread went down without hitting bump while other for like 10 hours can't help but feel I am supported. It's the same deal on any site, the game isn't getting much buzz which even when you aren't looking to sell loads isn't a great sign
>boring to watch
>El Rosa's Ramon boring to watch
>Xiao Hai's goddamn safety net boring to watch
Thats just like your opinion man.
People will decide what they will. We only know of what we read or hear about. What goes on in one place doesn't necessarily go on in another. Only time will tell.
Are you telling me that I should not buy the game because the Sup Forums and reddit are not discussing it?
Yes user that is clearly what I said to do, but last blade instead it will be evo mainstage
>they had stuck with the famous crisp, stylish and detailed 2D visuals that the series is known for
I hope this is a joke.
nah i don't think so user..think OP is serious..
>if they had stuck with the famous crisp, stylish and detailed 2D visuals that the series is known for.
>KoF
>known for its sprite work
Pffffffffft. What's up XIII player? Got into the series with XII and now you want to pretend like you know what you're talking about? KoF was NEVER known for its sprites or visuals. They consistently had some of SNK's sloppiest and cheapest sprite work because they came out yearly and had such huge rosters. SNK did things like cut corners and reuse sprites for well over a decade just to keep shit rolling. That and being on the same hardware from 94 all the way to 03 while every other company ever upgraded their tech really held the visuals back.
Now of you were talking about like Fatal Fury or Metal Slug sure, those games WERE known for their sprites, but KoF? Shut the fuck up holy shit.
>The last game isn't something to base your expectation on
this desu
compare Garou to KOF99, same year
well considering the spritework of XII/XIII is what put them out of business, it's was a good idea to measure expectations
>well considering the spritework of XII/XIII is what put them out of business
and this will do it again, so still right
One thing I notice in pre-99 KoFs is that various things in backgrounds look like they're not truly pixel art, but rather digitized photos or CG. Am I right to assume this?
> Nearly all of Love Heart's win quotes are her bitching about going home
Why did Nakoruru even bring her along? Why didn't she make a team with her, Rimururu and Rera?
man i just wanted to talk kof with people, not get into a discourse about the latest game..
Is this true?
>one game in an entire series with 14 main entry titles and DOZENS of spinoffs
No, that is not something to base judgement on. It's also frankly disingenuous because of all the bullshit XIII had to go through BECAUSE of those sprites, the butchered move lists and drastically simplified characters, cut story content, cut characters, HIGHLY inconsistent sprite quality, hell, those sprites are the reason KoF12 exists at all, they took their small budget as far as they could go and so they put out the KoF13 Kickstarter. XIII does not represent the entire series.
Why he is so edgy?
I hope not but you're probably right, maybe this game was cheap enough to make that the meager sales make a profit.
Yes, it's very apparent in a lot of stages.
KoFXIV has rage quitter hell. You don't get penalized, but if you keep doing it you will eventually only get paired with other people who rage quit.
Ultimately I dont care about the grafics.
The terrible netcode is unexcusable though.
HERE CUMS THE BIG1!!
because i think every fighting game needs at least one edgy on purpose character
You can derive animation from 3D models, for sprites, each animation frame is practically its own sprite, if you're making a game that is animation-heavy (which FGs are) then 3D models are actually cheaper in the long run.
Think of it a bit like using clay dolls for stop motion animation (3D) in which you can manipulate the joints of the doll and posturize it to derive each new animation, whereas with straight up drawing (2D), even though you use a key reference, your only way to actually animate is to make an entirely new drawing.
wasnt there some Yamazaki guy who did that well?
I think they look alright. Kyo looks retarded but his classic costume is much better. Biggest problem is the fucking netcode. Every match so far has been underwater and full of input lag
He's literally Sup Forums personified though.
I can't believe they were able to have Polanareff in the game, such an honor to be able use one of araki's characters.
desu kim in kof 14 looks more like kyo desu..
No.
orochinagi.com
>Carmelo: Many players are excited for the netcode of the game. Ragequitting is a real problem right now. Do you have anything done to punish Ragequitting?
>Oda: There are going to be penalties for Rage Quitting players. The game investigates the connection of the online players and the game penalizes by match making the disconnecting players together.
lel
Kim looks like Kyo, kyo looks like a k-pop star, and Terry looks like a black man in whiteface.
Joe, Clark, and Ralf all look great tho
Electic Polnareff has been in since '94. Yes, that's what the devs called him ever since his inception, electric Polnareff.
Damn... credit where credit is due. If only we had gotten to see their masterful 2D work utilizing the full power of the PS4.
>Hehehe, I'll put your email adress on the net...
>electric polnareff
that sounds like a name of a rock band.
do you think he goes on tumblr making call out posts about the other fighters, and tries to get them doxed?
...
It honestly doesn't look that bad, there are some pretty good models here like Ikari Team, Terry, South Town Team, Mexico Team, Villain Team, and K Team.
All of these teams looks pretty good to great, but the game's gross, flat lighting is extremely unflattering. The stages are hit or miss, the packed stadium looks awful but the destroyed stadium looks pretty good.
>like Ikari Team,
>Why did SF go 3d?
>Nevermind I like it
>Why did Guilty Gear go 3d?
>Nevermind I like it
Time will pass.
Holy crap he's even more terrifying without his beard. Almost as much as one of his other concept designs.
>72kb shot from a potato
Right. But KOF still should have played to its strengths. It would have been more suitable, even if it meant drastically reducing the available roster. There are already 3D fighters out there that have been doing this with impeccable quality for many years now. Just compare any KOF XIV model with anyone from T7 to see what I mean.
Let's be honest if they made XIV using the same sprites from XIII, it would just have 3 new characters due to budget and the game would just appear as meh again. This whole switch 3d raked in alot of attention.
Remember kof12 where they didn't have all the characters, moves and poses due to sprite budget?
SFV netplay is far from the worst
even if kim looks like kyo, i would still wanna get fucked by him..
...
this looks like the last thing you see before you die
