Can we have a Valkyria Chronicles thread?

Can we have a Valkyria Chronicles thread?

Just picked it up and I love it

Here is your handy rank A tutorial

Darcsens did nothing wrong

>Not deploying Largo and Rosie for the extra moves

what a noob

This shit ruined the game for me. I was having a ton of fun playing the game "properly" (moving units up, taking the enemies out, etc) and then my shitty ranks started getting to me. Why is the most unfun strategy the way to get good ranks?

Does it start having more gameplay later or is there always a mgs4 tier gameplay/cutscene ratio?

Same, I got around chapter 12 by playing properly, but all my classes were underlevelled as shit because of D ranks

Best character?

Alicia.

Quickly decide now if you have the self restraint to not solo the game with Alicia once she gets her OP as fuck skills.

Don't do this. Ignore ranks. Do a couple of skirmishes every now and then to get money and experience. Otherwise you will ruin the game for yourself.

I mean, the difference in XP between A and D ranks can be easily made up with a few rounds through the practice mission grinder. I played the real game story-wise normally, then cheesed the hell out of the practice ones just to get XP, worked out pretty well.

1 was amazing
2 was meh but had the best Valkyrian, the loli whose name I don't remember now.
3 was also amazing story and gameplay wise but maybe could have been better if it wasn't on the PSP. I replayed it 5 times

4 never ;_;

Anyone else played 3? They weren't lying about the difficulty of 3 compared to the past two holy shit.
Also why does 3 have the best cast?

Making threads of games you just picked up is the sure way to get spoiled.

Thees going to be much more missions in a row later on, some which may take an hour to beat. Plus you'll be spending time upgrading your gear, leveling your troops, customizing your team, skirmishing, etc.

I'm like halfway through, I think, and I'm honestly not enjoying it anywhere near as much as I was expecting to.

>PC controls are really bad for moving the tank. It keeps randomly switching directions and wastes AP.
>Killing enemies seems almost pointless a lot of time, since they still have just as many turns.
>None of the characters really interest me and the difficulty of a lot of the missions come from surprise, meaning that you can't plan around it on your first go. (Some might like this aspect, but I hate shit like that.)
>None of the characters interest me all that much. They all seem horribly bland.

I only kept playing as long as I did because I really wanted to see where the story went, but once I realized that my next mission (the one where you develop smoke grenades to use for cover for) probably wouldn't have any impact on the overall story, I just found it impossible to give a shit any more.
Should I force myself to see it through to the end or just drop it? I've already invested 15 hours in the game, but I can't motivate myself to keep going.

Can you skip the stretched-out garbage anime in the first game? I enjoyed the gameplay but having to watch 5-10 minutes of generic anime shit between every mission is fucking awful.

You can skip it if you hate the story that much

Is VC2 for PSP any good?

If the characters don't interest you and the gameplay doesn't suit you I don't see why you should continue. If you really want to see how the story goes go ahead.
I personally think playing on a controller/PSP does the series more justice

Is there a pantsu mod yet? I just want to peak up Alicia's skirt now and then and see something more (less) than those bloomers she wears.

I want to bust those fine little buns.

Why are all Valkyrian girls so 10/10?
Alicia, Aliassa, Riela

Imca

Yeah, I played it and enjoyed the hell out of it. I did prefer VC1 though.

Rosie is best gal.

Because war is never about playing fair

I've recently just bought the Remastered version too. Only played maybe first few missions up to now.

If I literally sit there all day and keep grinding the skirmishes will I just ruin the game for myself, how easy does it get if I just power out the ranks early on?

Its okay at best, the story is more of a generic highschool anime and two of the three protagonists are shit. I recommend skipping 2 and playing 3 since its better all around in all aspects, and despite what some anons might say not edgy at all

Isara dying felt so forced that I dropped the game soon after.

VC2 being bad is just a meme, play it.

Playing VC2 would make VC3 maps even more boring than they already are

And if you don't play VCII then the references to it in VCIII won't make much sense.

I don't think 'the reused maps will be boring in the sequel' is a good reason not to play it. VCII is fun.

I think it's a perfectly valid reason. Reused assets are the worst.

>generic anime shit
jeez, if you think VC1 is bad or "generic", don't ever play VC2. Or watch the anime adaptation.

I want big alpha girl Rosie to sit Alicia on her lap and play with her like a cute little doll.

metalhead wifu

Marina's a qt too. So mysterious, disciplined, and yet somehow gentle.

Also she takes the fox knot real good.

Alicia's skirt should be a little shorter...and no bloomers, just nice little frilly panties.

I have the game on PC. Is there a way to make it so things aren't so aliased?

Downsampling. You can easily run it in 4k 60fps on HD7950 without drops.

...

>You can easily run it in 4k 60fps on HD7950 without drops.
I can't, though. My PC is way better than this and sometimes the game slows down to a crawl for no apparent reason when I try to play with 60 fps. Capping to 30 fps is the only thing that fixed it.
Asshole. I'm not that far into the game yet.

You can get good ranks by playing properly too, don't make up excuses for being a lazy cheater.

It's okay, she's not the best wifu anyway

Maybe 1800p or 1440p should do the trick?

She doesn't die.

That's debatable.
I mean even on 1080p this happens. I have no idea why. I play much more demanding games without issues.

>pick up an anime game
>hurr why do I have to watch this anime shit?

Do we have to go through this every 2 years when they shit out a new port of the game?

it's a console port, that was originally designed to run at 30. As in, making it run at 60 literally broke some in-game logic and speeds.
Just stick to 30, and you'll be fine.

PS: Alicia dying is a joke. Anyone can die in VC.

That's weird, the port is really really well done. Pretty much everyone was telling each other to downsample it on release.

Dropped it somewhere after that tank bossbattle.
The combat is so much wasted potential, way too simple.

What a trooper! Would you a Marina?

As someone who played VC for only a few hours on the psp, can someone explain to me what is actually happening here? All i know is that scout are fast.

If you're going to play VC1, don't read it or it'll really ruin game for you.
Orders + Scouts, especially Alicia are basically God Mode. You can easily complete whole missions in 1 or 2 turns with using just one Scout. To get best rank, you have to complete missions ASAP, actually.

Ok, good to know. Now I'm trying the guide but step 4 isn't working. The higher resolution option doesn't appear in the config even though I set it up in gedosato and it's running.

Will try to figure this out.

if you got Nvidia GPU, you can use the built-in downsampling via control panel.
If all else fails, you can try the good ol' 2xSSAA.

I have an AMD gpu.

On AMD GPU you can do it as well.
In display enable VSR. With this I can use 1440p resolution.

Riela or Imca?

I enabled it but there's still blatant aliasing...

Those are prerendered cutscenes from PS3 in 720p resolution. Even PS4 version has them. In this case increasing resolution won't help.

Imca
Riela's side ponytail looks fucking retarded

So there's nothing I can do about this? The cutscenes look absolutely horrendous. And there's a lot of cutscenes.
