How would you feel if the NX came in two versions:
>A portable using the X2 chip that comes with a dock and can hook up to your TV so you can play it as a console. You can detach the left and right sides of it to turn it into a phablet, so it can play Android mobile apps. -300$
>A console that resembles the dock but has an X2 chip inside it and comes with a traditional controller. -250$
>X2 will be as powerful as a PS4
>Sold separately is a module that you can attach to either dock and boost the power up to that of a Neo. -100$
>Alternatively if you have both the console and the portable version, you can dock the portable onto the console to get that same boosted power.
>Like the PS4, all games will be required to ship with a "base" mode but the "enhanced" mode (which uses that boosted power) is optional for devs.
Two X2's working together is 8 tflops, which means if they scale 100% both are 4tflops,
Could be stronger even.
William Evans
Fucking hell did this really warrant its own thread?
There's like 3 other NX threads.
Sebastian Green
I think you have really unrealistic expectations
This is Nintendo we're talking about. If it's a handheld it probably won't be much more powerful than the Vita
Blake Watson
You are a fucking idiot, you know that? The Drive PX2 is for cars you idiot and it has a much much more powerful GPU than the one you'd see in a mobile unit or a console.
Mason Mitchell
But all evidence points to me being.
It has Breath of the Wild and the HD version of DQ11
The X1 cannot handle these titles, the X2 can.
ARM is cheap and strong, it's cheaper than paying IBM for custom underpowered garbage even.
PX2 is just 2 REGULAR X2's working together unison.
Easton Hill
>PX2 is just 2 REGULAR X2's working together unison. WITH 4 FUCKING PASCAL GPUS. You fucking idiot.
One X2 =/= A PX2 cut in half
Zachary Foster
>It has Breath of the Wild and the HD version of DQ11 >The X1 cannot handle these titles, the X2 can. What? The X1 is still more powerful than the Wii U, and I STILL think that's optimistic. For instance, the NX could be a 540p display which would not require as much power to run BOTW as the Wii u does.
Nintendo sells hardware for a profit, Yakuza-san has been quoted as saying NX will sell for a profit, and Reggie had his "Teraflops are shit" speech which to me seems to indicate the NX won't even be 1 TFLOP.
You're being insanely unrealistic thinking Nintendo will put out competent hardware given their track record and what we know, *especially* if it's a handheld where weight (ie battery size) and battery life are huge factors in determining clock speed
Logan Diaz
>HD version of DQ11 >540p display
Nathaniel Nelson
Why the fuck would they make a new platform on par with WiiU, it only worked for the Wii because casuals who have all left for phones.
Carson Bell
>Yuji Horii: That's right. The use of hardware is different for each system, so it's quite a challenge. You're just assuming NX is getting the PS4 version which is already confirmed as not the case.
Carson Martinez
I wouldn't mind, but it would be a criminally stupid idea for Nintendo. They've already confused the average consumer enough with the Wii U, the 3DS, and the ~NEW~ 3DS, they need to keep the NX as simple as fucking possible.
Jayden Price
...because it's a handheld? In Nintendo's eyes they're not replacing the Wii U, they're replacing the 3DS and they're consolidating their home console market into a hybrid device that can also double as a home console if you connect it with a HDMI cable.
Nintendo doesn't care about the handful of people who bought a Wii U and the fact that it wouldn't be an upgrade for them. People who bought Wii Us are Nintendo's diehard fans, they'll buy anything Nintendo shits out
Hopefully there will be two different versions of the NX with a more powerful home console version, but we don't know that yet. Most evidence points to the fact that NX is a handheld, so when thought of as a handheld, it's reasonable to assume it's not going to be some powerhouse hardware. That would either make it prohibitively expensive or require them to sell it at a loss
Camden James
Stop with this fucking tegra rumors, X2 is for automobile
Brayden Scott
>buying extra shit for "boosted power" Extremely unlikely, they'd have to design the thing around some sort externally accessible high-speed bus and games would have to do something like CF/SLI in order to take advantage of the performance. Not only would a design like that drive up costs it would also bring about all existing multi-GPU issues and increase programming difficulty tremendously.
The path to improving hardware is what PCs are doing - take the old component out and add a faster one in. There's a reason we're getting a "Neo" and a "Scorpio" instead of plugging extra shit into a PS4 or Xbone.
Leo Lopez
Why everyone is thinking it is some kind of hybrid?
Nintendo said nothing about that.
Owen Hill
To be fair, that could mean whatever hardware gimmicks they have to build the NX version around.
Luke Williams
That actually sounds way too ballsy for nintendo.
They MIGHT do it, but the 300 dollar cost of the phablet will keep it out of the hands of the average kid in this economy.
The console being as powerful as the ps4 but having free online play as well as a focus on local co-op and budget friendly(for the consumers as well as producers) games would put it on top.
Josiah Williams
>>A portable using the X2 chip that comes with a dock and can hook up to your TV so you can play it as a console. You can detach the left and right sides of it to turn it into a phablet, so it can play Android mobile apps. -300$ I actually very much hope that's what this is if it has tegra game support then I'm in all the way
Carson Hall
>the 300 dollar cost of the phablet will keep it out of the hands of the average kid in this economy. im sorry, but how do you not know that parents buy their kids $500 ipads regularly?
Gavin Rodriguez
Tegra X2's IGP is 256 Pascal ALUs. Its only a moderate uplift in performance over X1 with 256 Maxwell ALUs. You are blindly regurgitating unrealistic half precision compute performance.
The Pascal based Tegra X2 has less performance than a discrete GTX 750 ti. Stop spouting bullshit because you want Nintendo be competitive in your delusional autist mind. It isn't happening.
Dominic Wood
>they're replacing the 3DS and they're consolidating their home console market into a hybrid device that can also double as a home console if you connect it with a HDMI cable.
Nintendo is not so far gone that they'd go the cheap chinese toy route with this. A handheld/tablet hybrid that you can attach to the tv instead of a traditional console will outright fucking kill them.
They need the traditional console. It's for everyone who isn't a kid.
The same thing was done with the 32x.
Boosting the power of a console doesn't need anything save for a way to offload the most intensive stuff/share the load with another system.
You know the whole CLOUD COMPUTING thing that sony and ms are doing?
Lincoln Evans
>They need the traditional console. It's for everyone who isn't a kid. But kids are their main audience
Ian Murphy
And to add to this, the PX2 has 4 GPUs in it.
Oliver Flores
They said that they want unify both platforms, whatever they said with that is vague as fuck. But also they talked about making ports easier for both platforms.
I think they are just doing what sony is doing with ps4/vita.
Camden Stewart
still wouldn't buy it loll
Ryan Bell
Streaming ps4 games to the dead vita console? You mean that thing that they did with the wiiu?
Jayden Wright
You can't take the Wii U controller with you wherever you go.
Leo Davis
BTFO
will be either a little less powerful than or as powerful as the wii u and even if they shoved the car chip into it people still won't give a single fuck about a Nintendo system as consoles are already dieing and Nintendo has almost zero reverently in that space anyways.
Christopher Nguyen
The Drive PX2 is not the Tegra X2. It is two X2 on a board along with additional GPU logic.
Tech illiterate retarded Nintoddlers need to stop trying to talk about things you don't understand.
Owen Brown
was already saying that and my image clearly points that out
Caleb Roberts
Okay spell it out for me because I'm dumb. I see people throwing Tegra X2 around a lot, but wouldn't that make the console prohibitively expensive? Or am I getting things wrong? I don't think a Nintendo console that is more expensive than others on the market would be very appealing to the general consumer.
Christian Carter
cheap mobile system on chip cpu/gpu and nowhere as powerful as nintendrones tell you
Andrew Martinez
>would using this budget tier mobile hardware make the system expensive? ARM SoCs are cheap. High end chips like those used in the latest Samsung Galaxy and Apple iPhone sell for around $25 per unit. Nvidia's pricing for their Tegra line has been the same.
Connor Parker
That's very interesting. People have been talking about it as if it was a portable unit that would come close to rivalling PS4's current performance. If that's not the case then things sound more reasonable.
Oliver Cooper
very likely weaker than the wii u
Owen Bell
The WiiU's GPU is 320 VLIW5 shaders at 550mhz. Absurdly old arch fabbed on an absurdly old process. The Tegra X1 offers more performance than that, and the Cortex A57 CPU cores in it outperform the PPC750 cores in the WiiU.
Most ARM chips in flagship phones utterly shit on the WiiU. It was a terrible system when it was released, its nothing but a joke now.
Jose Wilson
Is handheld even confirmed? I really cant see the point in releasing this if you're downgrading your hardware ffs Nintendo
Dominic James
nothing is confirmed and am speaking of the unconfirmed hardware which is not very powerful unlike the bullshit OP shills
