I'm so fucking sick of this meme. Why has this become such a thing in recent years? I'm 26, and grew up playing multiplayer games. Talking shit to the other team has ALWAYS been an integral part of multiplayer gaming. Hell, half the fun of gaming is talking shit to your friends.
It's not "toxic", it's called bants. It's all in good fun. Why are modern gamers so sensitive and opposed to this? And why are devs increasingly "anti-toxicity"?

never understood this meme because CS is still 100% shitposting and shit talking

I love shit talkers getting banned and whining more than shit talking. You know, "grow a thicker skin" goes both directions

I thought this was about the pokemon move.

There's bants and then there's straight up being a dick.

The death of the dedicated server forces everyone to slosh around in the same dreadful "matchmaking" pot. You are no longer free to carve out your own niche community of players who frequent your server, one run with your own rules, maps, game modes. A place with its own culture and identity that can play and talk how they like.
No. Now everything is structured and static. You're buying into the sanctioned experience now. No choice. All because this way is slightly more profitable.
So why is toxicity a big thing now? Because now every paying customer is forced share the same boat together now. It's disgusting.
Liam Foster
Mobabs and SJW fags invading casual games.
Charles Powell
>it's called bants
Banter is, by definition, witty, funny and at least partially well intentioned. Based on the shit I see here, you people are none of those.
Easton White
There's a difference between bants in good fun and being an obnoxious little shit.
I'm okay with keeping constantly raging kids out of MP.
Matthew Garcia
Videogames became mainstream. It's no longer a hobby for shall we say "nerds" that enjoy shit talking other "nerds" when they frag one another.
Modern Warfare really pushed gaming into tears limelight and brought a massive influx of "bro gamers" into the hobby. "Bro gamers" were as into shit talking as the "nerds" if not more.
Fast forward to the recent years and the thin skinned weaklings also jumped on board bringing casual games along for the ride.
Getting bored with the casual stuff they take the plunge into something else and when they can't handle the bants, they demand virtual safe spaces such as ow "gg ez" filter.
That's how I see it anyways.
Carter Hughes
>toxic is a word invented by SJW and moba players
when will this meme die?

See? You are just parroting shit, you are not creative, you are incapable of true banter.

No one likes getting insulted.
If you were 26 you wouldn't be saying bants unless you're a inbred australian.
Lincoln Gonzalez
The problem is friendly sportsmanlike banter is a relic of the past. Now it's all "OMG YOU FUCKING CHEAP-ASS PIECE OF SHIT I'LL KILL YOUR MOTHER IF I EVER FIND OUT WHERE YOU LIVE". Playful ribbing isn't a thing that happens anymore.
Carter Morales
You need to find a dedicated server with regulars for it. Too bad a lot of games don't have those anymore.

Easton Barnes

Because people with autism can't distinguish between banter and psychopathy. These same autistic guys tend to play video games, and they're the type who will start out with simple meme banter like "lol get rekt noob gg ez" and eventually turn into "No, fuck you faggot, I'll find where you live and slit your throat in your sleep." These are the types of guys who will study the details of your player profile, stalk you on other parts of the internet, join your matches in other games just to kill you and spam the chat with "HAHAHAHAHAHA". Crazy dudes with fragile egos who will break out into autistic rage at anything that may trigger them. Those are the toxic players, the guys who tell you they're gonna kill you in your sleep and seem like they aren't joking.
If you've been on Sup Forums or Steam for more than like a year you've no doubt run into one.
Luke Baker

Even if we're distinguishing banter from being an obnoxious shit, why does it matter? Why are people not free to do this? Do "gamers" really need to be coddled so much? Its a fucking game
Dylan Richardson
Your so called 'banter' is an aspect of toxic masculinity.
Luckily the past couple of generations have been properly educated. Such actions are not acceptable in our modern culture.
You can't go around making people feel uncomfortable, even if it is in a virtual environment.
Everyone deserves respect, without having to fear over masculine voices shouting them down online!
Liam Ross
Not everyone is as thick skinned as Sup Forums users. Not everyone is like you.
Grayson Walker
I got into an argument with a random dude on Overwatch in voice chat for the first time in almost 100 hours of playing it. It was a rush and reminded me of the old days of Halo 2 shittalk when it was completely no-holds barred.

I've never had an issue with people talking shit to the other team. If I get stomped and the other team is all "gg ez" whatever it was ez. When people on your own team spectate while dead, etc and do nothing but complain about what you do it's really goddamn annoying though.
Colton Hill
>26 years old >sees no difference between bantz and verbal abuse You are a part of a problem, mr. "mature" gamer.
Camden Smith
"gg ez" isn't banter.
Banter is funny/witty. "Mercy, you gotta stop walking into my gun" when you been chasing and focusing her down or responding with "well stop chasing me like a loveless virgin" to the Reaper.
Carson Howard
>i just got banned from league of legends and am going to bitch and whine about it on Sup Forums for masturbatory levels of echo chamber: the thread
ok, im 27 and have been playing games my whole life... theres a reason why you were never invited into private servers or groups growing up, trust me.
Liam Hughes
>can use mute function on the faggot rather than on myself You can't even argue it's not the better option.
Easton James
I remember when talking shit either had some actual creativity to it or when they went so far overboard that they became a laughingstock. Sportsmanship was an old aspect of shittalking, the kind of shit you'd say to friends while competing with one another but ultimately you can still laugh about it over a few drinks. Now the only reason a lot of people shittalk is to rile up people they don't know and have no kinship with.
It's a similar de-evolution to pranks and trolling where it originated as something you could go back to laugh about (even if you were the target) and turned into just being a knob to random people. It's become low-effort low-quality regurgitation of other people's insults and simple acronyms. That's why people have made a distinction between banter and being a prick.
Carter James
yes it's just two clicks and your triggered cuckold feelings will be restored and protected
if you use the mute button you're no better than the weak sjws that used that gamergate blockbot on twitter though
Oliver Howard
The death of the dedicated nation forces everyone to slosh around in the same dreadful "diversity" pot. You are no longer free to carve out your own niche community of people who frequent your local area, one run with your own customs, ideas, laws. A place with its own culture and identity that can play and talk how they like.
No. Now everything is structured and static. You're buying into the sanctioned experience now. No choice. All because this way is slightly more profitable.

Jace Sanders
>defending this stupid gg ez meme Are you done sucking your own thumb? >b-but I'm old and mature gamer!!!!11 I played games long before u!!! Oh yeah, in that time you were calling everyone "noobs", no matter if they were genuinely bad players with no desire to listen to good advice, or genuinely new and inexperienced players, while gg literally meant to praise an opponent for a well played game.

"gg ez" and saying other simular troll things to randoms is obnoxious and It's really nothing at all like banter.
I go online and play games and I just want to have fun after a hard day of work or what have you, hell maybe make some friends, if not just practice good sportsmanship, because that's what maturity basically is.
When you say "gg ez" you're not being witty because it took literally no brain power, you're just being a lazy troll to people you don't even know, trying to make them irate for your own (and only your own) amusement. above being obnoxious it's also completely autistic.
That's why people call such behaviour toxic, because all it does is selfishly put people in a bad mood, and ruin any atmosphere of positivity or sportsmanship. you are the only one laughing. You are not funny.
Jonathan Morgan
Any non-genetic/learned trait or bit of passed-on information is a meme. Everything's a meme. Everything's always been a meme. Get used to it.
Noah Gray
Did you even read what I wrote? Damn right you sound like someone who's been here for years.
Kayden Evans
There is a difference between what people would call "competitive banter" and trying to find an excuse to be an insufferable cunt.
Whenever I'm playing with people, I remind myself, "Is what I want to say something I would say to someone in person outside of the internet? Would I say it to someone I don't know?" People act like the anonymity of the internet gives them reason to act inappropriately with others and it's plain childish. Of course, we're all playing the vidya - we're all manchildren here.
I'm all game for "da bantz", but when shit bothers me, I just ignore it. Nigga Just Walk Away From The Screen Like Nigga Close Your Eyes. If you're incapable of making use of in-game functions to ignore people, you're a shiteating faggot and, if you're incapable of holding any amount of respect - even for strangers - you're a shiteating faggot.
Levi Baker
>someone makes a clever/playful insult in good fun >people laugh out loud and the atmosphere is still relaxed
>someone goes fuck you kill yourself or the like after every death >he's ignored, told to shut up or muted by an admin >gets hilariously butthurt
It's always been like this on dedicated servers.
Nicholas Ramirez
I'm not even disagreeing with you, I'm telling you to take your entirely unprompted and lazy reworking of a vidya-related post into a rant about diversity to the board we have for that topic. If you can't handle that then maybe you should go to reddit and make your own subreddit.
Aaron Gomez
>everybody must be as underaged as me!!!!!!!!!!!

Juan Parker
Toxic is a "I lost/had a bad day so I'll bring it on others" attitude. It isn't trolling or banter, it's straight up being shit or throwing a match. The attitude spreads to others because you cause them to have a bad time, so that's why it's called "toxic." It's like cancer.
Does this board like having teammates that purposefully play to lose?
Nolan Jenkins
>he gets triggered by words
this has only become a problem within the last decade
if anything, people should be growing thicker skin as the internet becomes more seemingly "toxic" and learning to laugh about these things, instead of retreating by mutes and bans and becoming sheltered little gentrified flowers
kill yourself faggot, unironically
Jaxson Lee
And I'm telling you to go fuck yourself, nigger.
Lucas Gray
>banter Yeah no. Its just "gg ez" and "u mad?" and "hacker noob" for 99.9% of the time

>There is a difference between what people would call "competitive banter" and trying to find an excuse to be an insufferable cunt.
hello riot staffer
Adam Stewart
The reason toxicity spreads is that it drives away people who don't want to bother with that shit.
Same reason Sup Forums is shit.
Xavier Cox
We can do nothing but hope that people will quit gettin' mad at video games.
I like trash talk and think it's a defining aspect of competitive gaming, but it seems that the concept of trash talk itself is going over nearly everyone's head these days; we have a lot of people who take video games too seriously, a lot of people who have no wit, and a lot of people who don't know where the line between trash talk and straight up ridicule goes. It's very noticable in the Smash tourney community, with dudes doing victory dances, banging on the other player's head and other autistic shit, the crowd going HOO HA watching a Diddy match and so on.
Seeing some kid write something in the vein of "rekt like ur mum" doesn't make me angry. It does however make me disappointed and embarrassed toward the people I share a hobby with.
Luis Allen
>stalking me on social media and creating alternate Steam accounts to find me in games and send me death threats >bants that isnt banter u retarded nigger

It is most certainly not called "bants" That's some dumbass new term I assume was coined by niggers just like all the other stupid terms kids use I fucking hate niggers
Juan Turner
You know that kid that always cried and told the teacher whenever someone made fun of him, and never really developed the thick skin any adult man should. Well he became older and used the internet as a tool to gather all the pussies and beta males in a semi movement that has creeped into industries with a typically large amount of betas like programming and online journalism, thus encouraging cuck behaviour in online gaming communities.
Jaxon Perry
Do people actually kill themselves ironically?

You're responsible for your own emotional state. It's your own choice to feel angry or offended, and only your own choice.
