Can someone explain to me >what exactly is Stalker like >why is it fun >which of the series should I play if I've never heard of this series before? I don't need anyone to explain the plot, but just what IS it? Is it Resident Evil? Is it open world? Do I need a microphone for my laptop?
From what I gather its a Russia Fallout. You shoot radiation monsters and its spooky. Do you interact with other plays? Explain pl0x!
>>what is stalker free-roaming slav sim that gets incrementally better with mods depending on which game, i haven't tried the multiplayer because its probably trash compared to how good the single player was which has all of the story and progression.
>>why is it fun you get to go around in post apocalyptic environment where everything you do is a struggle for survival until you are able to get far enough into the game to become OP
>> what do you start with i started with call of pripyat but you should probably start with shadow of chernobryl because its the first game in the series
also mod the fuck out of your game so it dosnt look like shit

>what exactly is Stalker like Like a first person shooter ? >why is it fun It has great atmosphere, weapons feel nice, decent amount mods and full of memes. >which of the series should I play if I've never heard of this series before? Start from the beginning. You can skip Clear Sky if you don't like it as it's considered the lesser one. >Is it open world? Yes >Do I need a microphone for my laptop? Yes.Nobody wants to hear shitty laptop >Do you interact with other plays? No,it's single-player. > Russia Fallout Ukraine
Ryder Reyes
What mods should I get for it?
Jaxon Butler
oh boy here we go. Someone get the images.
Kevin Reed
Can anyone recommend me mods for Shadow of Chernobyl?
Nolan Price
I bought SoC the day it came out. That shit is getting close to 10 years old. It ran like shit without patches on my 8800GTS but I still played it through to the end.
Cameron Reyes
someone will post the beginner's guide with the links to the good modpacks
or you can search for the fallout begginners guide image

Gunslinger when?
Luke Bell
It's not fun. The gunplay is absolutely atrocious, which is unforgivable as it's pretty much the biggest part of the game. The UI is disgusting. The whole game is walking from bandit camp to bandit camp using the terrible radar which 99% of the time either shows the wrong place or doesn't show it at all, so you're stuck wandering the samy copy pasted buildings occasionally running into yet another bandit or military soldier and have to keep praying that RNG is on your side and your bullets will actually hit. That was my experience with the game. After being tasked to go into yet another copy pasted factory complex filled with soldiers that I've been in twice already, I uninstalled the game. The idea is nice, but the execution is laughable. I wouldn't recommend this game.
Also I'm talking about SoC, didn't try the other two.
Asher Thompson
I have a low end laptop, Intel HD Graphics Family. I think Stalker should run, but can I still mod? Also, how literally do you mean by survive? Can I build a homebase somewhere? Do I need to feed myself? Or am I just supposed to not get killed by monsters? What do I need the mike for if its single player? What mods ought I get? Is it more fun if I know some Russian?

i cant even finish CoP not that its hard or anything but i find the maps extremely dull does any mod fix this?

thats arcade gunplay, guess stalker was too realistic for you :^)

>What do I need the mike for if its single player? You don't.I thought it's a general question. >I have a low end laptop, Intel HD Graphics Family. I think Stalker should run, but can I still mod? I have the same graphics card.Vanilla will work fine with some tweaking around the graphic settings.About the mods,it depends.Obviously avoid big graphical enhancements .For COP avoid the ones that include Atmosfear.
Liam Thompson
i think he means he wants the location to be perfectly pinpointed on his radar/hud so he doesn't actually have to do any looking
I remember being briefly annoyed that the radar was just a general area in some instances and not the exact location, but since i'm not a fucking casual I dealt with it and it stopped bothering me whatsoever almost immediately after
Cooper Martin
Autumn Aurora mod is pretty good for difficulty and sometimes amazing graphics and texture choices, but i was disapointed in the general lack of mutants every where in the game (even at the end ) compared to Oblivion lost mod for SoC ( not the unfinished stand-game, the mod )
Logan Parker
I think it's time I reinstall Call of Pripyat. I have a new rig that can handle those mods. I'm not touching Misery, though. That mod is a little bit too realistic for my tastes.
Landon Rogers

Kevin Robinson
stalker is not an arcade shooter, you should stick to them if thats what you like
Logan Mitchell
give misery a shot AFTER you're done with CoP, sometimes it feels better and more enjoyable, other times it ruins the game for you forever
so don't try it first lest it sour your taste for the game utterly
Andrew White
get Call of Chernobyl
its SoC + CS + CoP in a freeplay stand alone game where you can be any factions, there are mods for it too.
Nathan Rivera
should we mention that most mods disable the radar, because stalker isnt fucking halo
Sebastian Hughes
what if i enjoy the vanilla story of SoC too much, is there a story mode? or is it freeplay only?

There's open world games I've never died once in that i still have countless saves 'just in case'
lost too many good hours to fallout 1 + 2 and Oblivion to make those mistakes ever again. Of course, I lost most of my oblivion progress thanks to some silly savegame manager i kept fucking up that the local internet cafe had
John Sanders
only freeplay, has all the areas of each game in one "game"
Juan Ortiz
>everything you do is a struggle for survival
What? Have you even played the game? It's easy as fuck, it's actually even easier on higher difficulties because enemies take less damage to kill. There is absolutely no struggle at survive, nigger.
Easton Rogers
If you want vanilla story + additional stuff ontop try OGSE Standalone.
David Wilson
well I never made that mistake again
Jonathan Ramirez
Stalker is a shitty shooter where bullets never go where you're aiming and at long enough distance literally have a diceroll chance to completely disappear. It's not realistic, it's just shit.
Isaac Howard
>to keep praying that RNG is on your side and your bullets will actually hit.
This has to be the least correct thing I've ever heard. You just don't know how to play the game.
Jeremiah Richardson
In short, it's open world FPS adventure in Slavland with gear based progression, side quests and shit.
The setting is not post-apocalyptic, it's a specific area in Ukraine, Chernobyl's vicinity called "the Zone" that mysteriously appeared one day with mutants, dangerous laws of physics ignoring anomalies and shit, but also great riches such as artifacts with mysterious properties, appreciated by outside corporations and the scientific community. While the Ukrainian army circled the Zone and tries to keep it closed off from the rest of the normal world, freelance treasure hunters called Stalkers were able to get themselves in through illegal means, hunting and smuggling artifacts to the outside world for profit.
Some Stalkers have also formed their own factions, like bandits preying on loners, Freedom who believe the Zone needs to be opened up and shared for the good of all mankind and their nemesis Duty who believe the expanding Zone is a great threat and something that needs to be destroyed, once they find out how. No one really knows much about the Zone or its center, and the game is about finding these secrets out. The main quest is relatively linear with some branches towards the end.
Get Shadow of Chernobyl, it has the best story of the bunch and is the first game release wise. Clear Sky is a prequel, but it spoils the first game and assumes you know some major lore stuff from it already. It's also not as good as the other two, you can skip this if you want as it doesn't add much story stuff. Call of Pripyat is the last game chronologically and release wise, has the best gameplay mechanics, but it also spoils the first game and doesn't have that good main story. Great side quests though.
Remember to play on Master (highest) difficulty as it makes both you and enemies less bullet spongy. Low difficulties make both you and enemies more bullet spongy and less accurate. The games can be all played and function perfectly fine without mods.
Lincoln Thomas
Play the first game. It's the best.
Terrible gunplay tho.
If you enjoy the first one, play Call of Pripyat. Ignore Clear Sky.
Jaxon Diaz
OP, I literally just finished playing the stalker games for the first time a few weeks ago.
All you need is the base games, Zone Reclamation Project for SoC and Sky Reclamation Project for CS. If you want to improve the visuals, the Absolute Nature/Structures mods for each of the 3 games are fine. I didn't bother with anything beyond that, though there are a few other visual improvement mods.
Make sure you enable modding as described in images like this one: PCGamingWiki articles for the 3 games also cover any minor fixes you might want to add, like for changing the FoV or skipping the intro movies.
Technically the story order of the games is Clear Sky > Shadow of Chernobyl > Call of Pripyat, but most people play them in release order (SoC > CS > CoP). I think that playing CS first as a newcomer would be a bad idea, personally.
Be aware that the vanilla accuracy system is stupid, and no matter what you do some of your shots with early guns will miss. Thankfully, this also applies to the AI. Always try to "low crouch" and use ironsights while standing still for maximum accuracy, at least until you get midgame-ish weapons.
Everything else you can usually figure out on your own, or by looking at the stalker wiki if you're unsure of something.
>From what I gather its a Russia Fallout.
Chernobyl is in Ukraine, but otherwise yes. Better gameplay, but much less open than a Fallout game. There is a distinct forward progress unlike fallout which is almost entirely non-linear.
Charles Ortiz
>bullets never go where you're aiming and at long enough distance literally
It sounds like you fucking suck. This isn't a typical git gud, you really just don't know how to play the game. You shouldn't be having these problems. Just play the highest difficulty and aim for the head. What is wrong with you? Have you played more then an hour?
Benjamin Hughes
>quicksave in Chernobyl >die, reload >game spawns a Monolith soldier directly behind me that immediately lights me the fuck up

Luis Evans
Not him, I love the game series to death, but there is a specific part in one of the .ltx files that deals exclusively with the difficulty setting and the probability of gunshots simply not registering damage. It is entirely possible for a headshot to land and not deal any damage, but mods fortunately and generally fix this unless they are stupid
Nicholas Foster
He's right though, Stalker does a diceroll with every shot to make it do no damage. Have you even played it?
Andrew Powell
Bullshit, this has been going on since 2007. There is no such value, people think actor hit probability refers to the player's bullets registering but it's just the probability of enemies hitting you on different difficulties, HOWEVER
HOWEVER, he is not entirely wrong. Weapons and ammo have separate spread multipliers, especially shitty early weapons like the PM which has a huge cone spread for bullets. 9x18 ammo also has terrible spread, so it is entirely possible for the shitty Makarov to completely whiff the target on the first shot. Various mods reduce the cone spread on all weapons and ammo to something like 0.01x to guarantee your first shot landing on the spot where you aim
Chase Adams
Master is literally artificial difficulty that makes enemies into bullet sponges. Fuck off retard.
Julian Price
Guys, OP here. I'm gonna buy it from Steam because I don't want any complications with modding, modding with Steam is easy so I'll buy it even though none of the original creators get $$$$. What's interesting though is that the game costs 20$, and I assume Clear Sky and Call of Priyapt will also cost 20$ each, 60$ total. There is a bundle deal for all 3 games for 40$, but I've been told Clear Sky should be skipped. Is it really that worthless? I don't want to bother buying the package deal if Clear Sky is garbage, I'd rather buy Chernobyl and Priyapt individually because then if I don't like Chernobyl, I don't have to go other Priyapt.
tl;dr How shitty is Clear Sky really?
Isaac Foster
lmao this b8
Brayden Long
They still die in 1-2 headshots you ninny
Ryder Richardson
personally i really liked clear sky because of the addition of faction combat and just modded it so it wasn't buggy because bugs are what make it such a bad game, it really isnt that bad and if you can always like watch youtube vids about it to see the problems ya know
Benjamin Campbell
Steam version actually brings a whole lot of complications in this case because steam uses some bullshit patch the russian version (1.0004) never got. Almost every single mod is based on russian version though so have fun downgrading the steam version manually.
Adam Thomas
>that screenshot
Jesus why the fuck would you get COMPLETE mod.
>struggle for survival
It's not hard at all for resources. Play masters difficulty so it's easier to kill them, and vice versa. Aim for head shots.
Did you even play the game? Or is your screenshot taken from the web. Because I hope to god you didn't use COMPLETE Mod
Jacob Collins
Faction war is broken beyond fixing, otherwise its got some decent moments, nostalgic areas from the firt game, some stuff that is in the third game like artifact hunting with a detector and weapon upgrades, the ending is underwhelming and pretty shit, personally i enjoyed it but i can see why many people hate it
Jonathan Torres
God damn Op, you sound like a huge faggot and I want you to die a horrible death.
Elijah Morales
if you win the lotto and the game decides that the bullet hit AND dealt damage, yeah
Christopher Scott
What alternative do I have? The closest thing I've ever done with modding was with minecraft for the patches before the downloader thing started, and that was way back in 2010ish. Where else can I buy/pirate it and how'll I sort out with modding?
You're making it sound like it's actually difficult or something when it really isn't
Anthony Foster
Wtf is this meme of bullets not dealing damage, i never had that happen
Elijah Scott
Pirate the game and use the 1.0004 patch.
Landon Allen
If you want to mod, for textures, lighting, and head bobbing (it's very strong so I recommend reducing it) here's a very good tutorial how to mod it with perhaps the best beginner STALKER mod. Don't fucking get COMPLETE or stuff that changes gameplay.
OP here I've died from eye cancer, I will haunt you tonight. Tell me your favorite color and I'll whisper it into your ear tonight.
Jaxon Parker
Master was the intended way to play. There were no difficulty settings in the beginning. They added that after THQ complained that they want to have a much broader audience.
Aaron Scott
>The gunplay is absolutely atrocious Found the guy that plays on easy.
Andrew Watson
There's always have to be that one guy who tries to fit in
Nathan Jackson
it's an ancient fucking misconception based off a value in actor.ltx file talking about hit probability that idiots seem to understand as "player's probability of landing a bullet" whereas it actually means "probability of being hit by bullets". The only confirmed spots where bullets legitimately do not deal damage are fingers and toes for people and several body parts for mutants.
Mason King
Not a lot of people know this, but there's a certain (percentage?) on whether the bullet with hit the target or not. It's lower the higher the difficulty is.
Ryan Perez
Actually, the steam version isn't the best, especially if you want to mod (which i wouldn't recommend on a first playthrough anyway). Also, there was a big fuck up in the company and i think most of the people who worked on stalker got fired or something, so only this one dick gets all the cash, so despite loving the games, i'd say pirate them, or at least one of them to get a feel for them. Dropping that much cash on 3 games when you're not sure if you're gonna like them is a bit of a gamble (and you can get a 3 pack for like 10$, i did sometime ago, for steam, legit site too). Clear Sky isn't garbage, but it is the worst in the series. Most of the hate stems from the game having a horrid launch and the faction war system being broken. Still a fun game IMO.
>also mod the fuck out of your game so it dosnt look like shit Looks like you skipped this step.
Samuel Collins
You're not painting a true picture of what OGSE is and what it does, bud.
>Bloodsuckers intentionally spawning right next to you as you're having a conversation >extremely vague questlines that force you to stumble around not really knowing what it is that you need to do or where to go >quest items that you can't get rid >fucking invincible dogs
And a fuckton of other terrible design decisions.
OGSE is a meme/soup mod at heart and that's something you need to take into consideration if you're considering playing it.
I still like it though, but I tend to find some enjoyment in even the most mediocre of mods.

Guys, OP here, I fucked up. I had forgotten why I hesitated from buying the Stalker bundle from Steam and ended up buying it. How fucked am I for modding? Should I even bother modding? It just finished downloading, gonna go dive in pronto. Wish me luck.
Noah Ramirez
Stalker is a free-roaming shooter with horror elements in a not-openworld that was outdated when it came out and had most of the interesting features removed.
It's a game that slavs praise as the second coming of christ because that's all they had at the time.
It can occasionally generate some neat atmosphere but is overall underwhelming.
Camden Ross

William Cook
you might have some trouble getting some mods to work but you can stlll use zrp for bug fixes and qol changes. thats all you really need
Cameron Thompson
Get Stalker again on GoG if your morality inclines
Aaron Bennett
A decent number of mods will still work
I think it's mostly ones like the assrape difficulty ++ mods that were built around the prior patch version of SoC and were just never updated because none of the RUs gave a fuck about Steam having a new patch.
If you poked around for your CD-Keys it's always possible that the Steam CD keys you have WILL redeem on GOG because of their deal to honor retail keys. Whether your steam key was one of the lucky ones that GOG takes is entirely up to RNGjesus I think--technically GOG wasn't going to redeem Steam's keys, but they can/do.

You can still refund it if you bought the games off steam. And you can downgrade the game to a version that is more mod compatible i think. Still, shouldn't give you too many problems.
