Parts of it are a slog and its really showing its age, but I still enjoy the story, the choices and the characters.
Also the soundtrack and atmosphere are fucking excellent, those two elements still hold up very well.

I found it so boring and tedious I never finished it and never bothered with the rest of the series.
shit combat system
I think it's great once you hit chapter 3. Siegfried is best bro.
better than 2, not quite as good as 3
It's okay it was the only Witcher game I've been able to finish. I can't stand the controls in 2/3 for some reason.
It's a game with a lot of heart and soul in it. When people say Witcher 1 is a bad game I immediately remember the party scene in Act 2 and realize why I like this game so much compared to wRPGs that should be technically better.
To be honest it is my favorite witcher game.
Mainly because it has superior voice acting in my native language. So many memorable lines came from that game and actually lot of hidded shit in the chapters. Especially the second one.
Yes the combat is unique to say the least, but it works and can be fun when you get used to it.
Walking simulator
really loved the story
It was much more unique then the Wild Hunt
The only truly good witcher game. Only went downhill from there.
Witcher 1 > Witcher 3 > Witcher 2
Witcher 2 is too short and unfinished. Witcher 3 is too dumbed down, from all aspects including storytelling
Witcher had great quests that always had a backstory relating somewhat to the main plot.
Characters that actually had personalities and choices that really mattered.
The side effects of choices are what made witcher great.
great writing.
being able to combine fantasy and sci-fi in such a way is unheard of. and you get to play it as a video game with choices and consequences.
Worst witcher game but still a good game.
It's okay. Had some good parts but felt like a Neverwinter Nights module with even worse combat but it was their first game so you have to give them credit. The talky bits and the towns were great. They could have improved it a lot more with a sequel instead of going the AAA action game route but one makes more money than the other.
Chapters 1, 2, and 4 were really nice, outside of quests involving Alvin. The rest was shit due to the retarded story.
It was a decent game, but it would have been a lot better if it wasn't based on a book so it could give the player more freedom in choosing what the main character does.
one of the best games ever made by human hands
At least each area in witcher was diverse and filled with things to do.
A lot of RPG's boast open world with expansive lands filled with a lot of nothing.
Towns in witcher felt like actual thriving towns
>being able to combine fantasy and sci-fi in such a way is unheard of
That's not true it's just not common anymore. There's tons of '80s and early '90s fantasy sci-fi games like Might and Magic and the late Wizardry games.
game is comfy and immersive as fuck
>witcher 1
Its still my favorite in the series, I love everything about it, including the combat.
I'm playing The Witcher 3 for the first time and I kind of hate the storytelling. And from what I hear I'm not till the worst parts yet.
The entire Novigrad storyline...They turned the mages from the previous games, from coniving arrogant cunts, a necessary evil to fuckign wrongfully persecuted progressive freedom fighters standing up to le eavle catholic church. It's not even subtle
agreed, alvin started as a mysterious child who couldn't harness his magic, and stayed like that the whole game.
They never delved too deep into his backstory.
Although I'll commend them on the interactions with geralt and alvin and letting you decide how to "raise" him.
Combat system was kinda grotesque but the story, the atmosphere and the soundtrack were outstanding.
>what is group style used for
>and stayed like that the whole game.
UGHHH
your mother sucks dwarf cock
>Stayed like that the whole game.
Until that part where he's actually the Knight Commander, right?
no challengers?
I couldn't stand Witcher 3 and I played through 1 and 2 multiple times. I dunno.
TW3 > TW1 > TW2
I recommend you replay the game.
The combat was shit and too much of it was a fucking drag; 3/5ths of the fucking game takes place in a swamp with infinitely respawning enemies. The last chapter is a particular pain in the ass because you can't enter the caves if there's enemies around. And there's always enemies around because they respawn fucking infinitely. Checking all the caves should take a couple of minutes because they're all close to each other, but it takes close to a fucking hour.
It's a great game. Very comfy ambience, areas and music. Loved act 2 the most in Vizima's temple quarter, link related. It's too bad the Witcher 2 & 3 kinda lost that mysterious and ominous touch that TW1 had.

Honestly I almost rage quit at the Kaer Morhen prologue because of how horrid the combat was. I'm glad I didn't because now I got to experience all three Witcher games in a row. Great gaming experience
It had tone that's missing in the sequels. I also liked how Geralt looked like a mutant, and not some pretty boy with scars. Only game in the series I actually finished.
God I remember that shit, the best part was I remember equipping the drowner repelling charm to try to make it less annoying, and rather than making drowners non-hostile, what the charm does is make them run away from you but stay exactly close enough that you're still technically in combat so you have to unequip the charm again and kill them before you can enter caves
Good game. Good characters and story.
Good for Slavic feels.
I'm alright with combat, but some don't like it.
It was kinda crap, but Siegfried is my nigga so all is forgiven.
I liked Siegfried as a character. I just wish there was a way to stop the war between the Flaming Rose and the Scola'tael instead of just either choosing sides or running from it. Failing that, there should have been a way to keep your nose of it without having to kill one or both of them.
I hope one day we can get a HD remaster of the game. I love the atmosphere and music but the combat, graphics, and voice acting could use a witcher 3 upgrade.
The worst rhythm game of all time.
But if you are neutral, you don't have to kill both Siegfried and that terrorist Yaevinn, you can spare both.
One of the best atmospheric games I had the pleasure of playing with also a beautiful soundtrack, but it has awful combat and controls, but I love the shit out of this game.
>game keeps telling me I have to make a choice
>had no idea there was a neutral path
fug.
Don't get involved in attack on the village numbnuts.
Childhood is when you idolize Sigfried
Adulthood is when you realize Yaevinn was right all along
Shame on you, but to be honest I fucked up and supported the squirrel faggots in my first playthrough.
NEVER.AGAIN.
Only vidya connoisseurs can appreciate it.
Yaevinn was just a piece of shit trying to forge an impossible goal, Iorveth had better ideas instead of just pure revenge, he was actually willing to co-exist with humans just to get some dragon titties at least.
Flaming Rose knights are racist zealous pieces of shit, but they do protect people from monsters for free, shades of grey all around, that's why I love the Witcher series and books.
Well don't want to spoil too much for you, but there are three different endings, neutral , order and squirls.
If I remember correctly the game does force a choice on you in chapter 3, but in chapter 4 you have another choice to go with the side you backed in chapter 3 or go neutral. Then Triss is your companion in the end chapter instead of Yaevin or Sigfried.
Most people grow out of their anarchkiddie phase when they turn into adults
The elves are completely unlikable in 1. They have no personality other than being constant dicks.
>not going true witcher
would be a shame if something happened at this bank
i have 1 and 2 but i can't play them, the combat makes me want to kill myself
Well except how the church of the eternal fire is portrayed in W3. There are zero shades of gray there.
There isn't even a morally acceptable character from the church or follower, they're all black and white. Really fucked up the game for me.
This is r/atheism level of fedora tipping
I actually went down that route and didn't kill either of them. The game had me fight their "ghosts" in the final world as if I had killed both of them.
Great atmosphere and a nicely built world brought down by the worst combat system to ever exist.
Also fuck the swamp.
I'm afraid it's the other way around.
Overrated and an absolute slog to go through
>muh part 4
that unfortunately means you have to go throught part 2 and 3 to get to it
Witcher as a whole is an overrated franchise on Sup Forums I hope CDPR can make Cyber punk less of a pain in the ass to play and enjoy, while they maybe be good at storytelling (or stealing story) they absolutely suck at the combat mechanics of their games.
>cdor decided to use Yaevinn
>they could have just used the Iron Wolf
Poor choice desu
Really? Did they acted like you killed them?
There are a lot of "projections" in the end it's something from your mental state.
Also I noticed the end of the first witcher game is a location in the third game
Yeah, I eventually got all the endings but did it back in 2012 after 4 years of not playing it. I had no idea there was multiple endings for the game until witcher 2 came out and anons started asking where sigfried was. I sided with the Squirrels in my first playthru so he was a dead man and I was thoroughly confused.
Yeah, they fucked up that part in Witcher 3, one of the big disappointments that game had for me.
The ghosts are just the reflection of the will of those characters being in Geralt's mind, not that it is their real ghosts.
But on the other hand, the Wild Hunt showed up, goddamn Caranthir has damn good magic skills to go full inception-mode on them while not actually being there.
a good game
>no Siegfried in Witcher 3
>IMPLYING he wouldn't have his boys back at Kaer Morhen
I fucking love the Witcher 1m, It's clunky in just the right ways and manages to do the occasional thing better than it's sequels(that fucking Detective Raymod questline > USE YOUR WITCHER SENSES). it's a shame that by 3 it seems to be mostly relegated to a few knowing nods, presumably because most of the people who played it either hated 1 or will never bother playing it.
I finished 3 today and I'm more keen on going back and trying the Witcher 1 premium modules than starting on the DLC right now. Are they worth a shot?
It is my favourite game.
>Spend 10 minutes stunlocking that piece of shit golem before finally killing him
>Find out you can reuse the lightning rod to instant kill him
To be honest if they had chosen the Iron Wolf and still used him like they used Yaevinn they would have murdered his character.
This video is retarded. The church is supposed to have entire squads dedicated to monster killing. Sigfried killed a werewolf if you meet him in Witcher 2
Absolutely.
Hearts of Stone is worth it, Blood and Wine has a lot of references to Witcher 1 but its main story is crap imo.
I know your feelings.
the first DLC is better than the base game, 2nd sucks thou
>and its really showing its age
Just kill yourself
>no Siegfried in Witcher 3
>IMPLYING he wouldn't have his boys back at Kaer Morhen
Yeah really butthurt over that as well, but at least he is somewhat mentioned in Hearts of Stone (don't expect much, just a noticeboard notice and a reference in a dialogue).
True. I still wonder what happened to him. I thought we would get him in the 3rd game since Dijkstra came back but he never showed up.
Hell his father was a renowned monster slayer who did it for free until he got btfo by based Borch.
I installed it a year or so ago to see what the fuss was about and stopped after about an hour and a half because the gameplay was so terrible
It's trash.
>Make it obvious who the killer is by your fucking medallion vibrating
>Can't finger the guy unless you had a specific book at a specific time in the quest line
Batman senses are lazy, but that's bullshit
Did Gramps really do anything wrong?
He gave me a sick poison so we cool.
>True. I still wonder what happened to him. I thought we would get him in the 3rd game since Dijkstra came back but he never showed up.
From the leaked files of Witcher 3 two years ago he was supposed to be in Novigrad with Iorveth and some scoia'tael and they would have featured in the Reasons of State questline, most likely siding with Djikstra, but stuff happened during development and that was cut.
I know it hurts, user, there was also a battle at Novigrad planned, the Wild Hunt would have attacked the city and shit would have been awesome.
It still hurts.
It's good.
Good story, good characters and a lot of good gameplay mechanics. Just keep in mind it's an RPG, not a fucking action game.
A bit rough around the edges, but it has good production values where it matters.
Also best alchemy system in vidya.
No, not "one of the best" or "the best in the series". It's THE best there is.
>potions with interesting, varied effects
>every potion is extremely useful for a given circunstance
>oils and bombs equaly varied and useful
>toxicity as an excelent balance mechanic
>long durations and strong effects to encourage use while discouraging hoarding at the same time
Maybe it could be improved when it comes to the gathering of ingredients, since some of them are WAY to abundant, but I also like how they encourage you to invest in the intelligence skill tree to unlock some of the gathering methods.
>Siegfried
>nice guy
>helps you
>has a bit of fun
>Yaevinn
>a dick
He is a sick fuck, killed him, mostly because that reminded me of that part in the books when Ciri was nearly raped by an old cannibal, just did not even think to spare that old man.
>playing on hard
>combat consists of fishing for stuns with aard to instant kill
I like it.
I wish the later games had group style as good as Witcher 1
So you can just stunlock everyone forever?
>load into area
>monsters are already hitting you before you can react
Too clunky a game for me to finish. I finished Act 1 but that was all I could handle.
Played that game 3 times trying to experience all the routes and couldn't bring myself to side with that knife-eared faggot.
No, but aard has a chance to stun them and then if you attack someone who is stunned or has fallen over you instantly kill them.
You can do it to some bosses too, notable the beast.
Where does that happen? I remember one house where a bunch of thugs were waiting to ambush you near the end of act 1, but that's only an issue if you're playing on hard, and even then you should be able to make stun bombs by that point.
I actually meant the added content for Witcher 1, I'm just gonna do it all. I'm acting like I'm pushed for time, I just want more Witcher.
Seeing Eksel twirling about in Witcher 3 gave me such warm memories of spinning like a lunatic in the middle of a grouop of salamandra and critting the shit out of all of them. Dodging and whirlwind just aren't the same ;_;
Are you me?
I am currently playing through the new adventures part of Witcher 1, the 2 made by CD are well made individual stories with interesting choices.
The fan made ones are not voice acted and can be buggy, but if you can get past that, still fun.
That's an awfuly inpractical way of doing things.
In fact you're most vulnerable doing coup de graces when facing multiple enemies, so you're probably doing yourself more harm than good, unless you manage to stun everyone and even then you only have time to finish one or two enemies at most.
Everything but the combat is great. other than having to go back to the swamp in Chapter 3 I enjoyed it.
>nearing end of chapter 3
>shit starting to get real
>end up in chapter 4
Holy shit chapter 4 was brilliant and beautiful, loved all that lore shit going in in the village and the fish people, and the old field, and the wedding. It like the kingdom is about to burn and then you end up in this small village with its small problems but mostly peace, totally oblivious to everything else going on around them.
>I actually meant the added content for Witcher 1, I'm just gonna do it all. I'm acting like I'm pushed for time, I just want more Witcher.
If so, the Price of Neutrality is the best one and is the only one that should be played, you can ignore the rest, but if you still want more, do the Side Effects questline, but it will be just about hoarding money to save Dandelion's ass again.
The rest were made by community modding teams that were hired by CDPR for Witcher 2 and beyond, but do not expect perfect quests.
