What went wrong?

What went wrong?

Believe the hype.

Can you really not figure it out for yourself by this point?

It's the best case senario for them. everybody buy, then the have no load on the servers so they can spare money on them.

>Phoneposting

I saw an article on this that said 81%?

Maybe those two redditors will finally be able to see each other now.

Does it matter at this point? The devs got their money and everyone believed the hype. Even if it reached Battleborn levels Sean would still be in his swimming pool of cash.

It was his dream game. Cash is nice, but having your chance to be "that kid that made his dream game" and blowing it is a heavy, heavy cost, regardless of his scumbag practices (which, in all fairness, were likely out of necessity. He dug himself pretty deep, having no marketing experience. Not to mention having to meet newly imposed deadlines, transactions from PSN, the like.)

Absolute dogshit optimization

It's the same scenario as the high school kid who always wanted to be on the football team. He was never chosen, he always failed the practices.

But he tried and tried and tried and eventually, for some reason, he was chosen. And he made the winning touchdown in the game against the rival school.

And then he never played football again. And no one ever heard of him again.

western developers

Frankly, it doesn't matter. It's a singleplayer game and you start way too far from the center. The original 1.00 version of the game had you start at around 40,000 light years from the center and the 1.03 (on release day) increased the distance to 180,000 light years. I got pretty bored of moving from point to point, using black holes often and getting to 115 000 LY from the center. I'm still gonne get to the center eventually but the distance should have been 100,000 LY at the start.
My guess is that they wanted to artificialy increase the lenght of the game after the outrage that followed the leak saying it only took 25 hours to get to the center. They went overboard.

Still has about 20k per day on Steam, ain't too bad for a single player.

Still more players than Battleborn

On the first week of release it is.

>it is now getting outsold by a bus simulator with mostly negative reviews

>81
uneven numbers are not sexy in marketing

...

Who cares, they made off like bandits.

maybe that article was a day earlier than this one?
Playercounts drop steadily and continually, so soon it will be even more than 90%.

hasn't 90% of Sup Forums been dedicated to what went wrong from the moment the game launched?

anyways mfw

>It's the same scenario
Except there was no touchdown, only praise and certainty that there would be one.
And now that kid has received a giant paycheck for his A game that turned out to be just as bad as the coach predicted on the very first day.
In summary, it is not similar in the slightest.

>The devs got their money
>Sean would still be in his swimming pool of cash
From the PC version? Maybe not. There is a way to see the refund rate on Steam?

I haven't played it but ive seen let's plays and from what I can see, the universe is way too empty, and fuck having all those planets when you do the exact same thing over and over again.

It needed more NPCs and Even more interaction with other players for sure, and a construction system would have been nice.

But as other user said- who cares, they made off like bandits.

It is bad for something that was supposed to have infinite replayability, infinite content, and that had more than 200.000 players a few days ago.
The percentage is what is important, 20.000 of 200.000 is VERY BAD.

developers lied and people bought the game based on those lies.

>uneven
You mean odd, right?

yes, sorry, english is not my mother language

What I don't get from this whole debacle is many/most people going "oh poor devs, they were just the victims of hype!".

Nigga they were the ones to build the crazy fucking hype to begin with. They were the ones that weren't showing what the actual game was about before launch, telling lies or half truths or whatever you want to call them.

A lot of ESL people say uneven, while wrong, isn't odd to see it.

I think steamspy takes that into account, and the game takes longer than the 2 hours to reveal how disappointing it is, so most likely very low.

the pc version was barely playable
someone looked at the code and literally found ps4 settings in it
they barely even ported it at all

Can I be FUCKING real for a second?

This community is fucking atrocious right now. You're all acting like a bunch of whiny, entitled little babies.

A tiny team of people made an entire universe for you to explore. They made it for YOU, and they're going to wake up tomorrow morning and see that instead of enjoying it, this community of "fans" picked out the 3 or 4 things that weren't perfect and are using that to fucking riot.

Guess what? The game was never going to be perfect. It was never going to live up to your hype. It was never going to be everything you'd ever want in a game.

What it WAS going to be was an impossibly big universe filled with mysteries and weird shit. I just played it for 2 hours and it was exactly that. What more do you want?

Is it buggy? Sure. Is it repetitive? Maybe. Is the inventory system imperfect and the multiplayer feature questionable and the structure unclear? Sure, fine.

But holy shit what do these people OWE YOU?

How fucking entitled do you have to be to explore an infinite universe in a spaceship and then say "yeah but..."

We should all be fucking weeping in our chairs right now at the sheer size and scale of the achievement. We should be showering the people behind this thing with the praise they deserve for pulling off one of the most inspiring games in recent memory.

Hello Games doesn't owe you the world. Yet they gave you 18 QUINTILLION of them.

If you have the fucking audacity to complain about it then you don't deserve it and you were never fans in the first place.

I wonder how many people bougth the game just to return it out of spite

>Can I be

stopped reading, tumblr faggot

Wrong?

>Game already sold loads of copies and made tons of shekels
>Server maintenance at a minimum

The investors are very pleased.

Fresh off the boat, from reddit, kid? heh I remember when I was just like you. Braindead. Lemme give you a tip so you can make it in this cyber sanctuary: never make jokes like that. You got no reputation here, you got no name, you got jackshit here. It's survival of the fittest and you ain't gonna survive long on Sup Forums by saying stupid jokes that your little hugbox cuntsucking reddit friends would upboat. None of that here. You don't upboat. You don't downboat. This ain't reddit, kid. This is Sup Forums. We have REAL intellectual discussion, something I don't think you're all that familiar with. You don't like it, you can hit the bricks on over to imgur, you daily show watching son of a bitch. I hope you don't tho. I hope you stay here and learn our ways. Things are different here, unlike any other place that the light of internet pop culture reaches. You can be anything here. Me ? heh, I'm a judge.. this place.... this place has a lot to offer... heh you'll see, kid . . . that is if you can handle it...

They focused on making the game look flashy and impressive at conferences and online but in reality they were still far behind in development. The game was overly ambitious from the start, nothing that big can continue to be unique for the entire experience.

Poor optimization at launch
Nothing to keep players coming back to play after a few hours of playtime
Hell of a lot more concurrent players at launch than most games would ever have, likely being casual players that wouldn't play as much as other

All comes together for some seriously high concurrent player dropoff

technically, uneven is the same, since half of all numbers, plus 0, are not even, or uneven, and if you add zero to any amount, the amount stays the same.

>investors

But there aren't any

>PS4 settings

Jesus christ why are people on Sup Forums so tech illiterate

It lost its luster.
Stop it as long as people donĀ“t call you out on it specifically.

>tfw you didn't buy no man's sky

...

you fucking know what i mean you memeing shit lord
there was literal ps4 code in it
fucking kill youself

If you buy it, leave a bad review then refund it, will the review remain?

...

just as i predicted. i was easy to see this game didn't have much going for it and people would get tired of it. though I'm surprised it took two weeks.

...

Lads if you're ever having a bit of a shit day, just remember there's a guy out there that paid $1300 to play this a bit before anyone else

...

He sacrificed himself for us. Never forget No Man's Jesus.

Well they sure as hell won't be seeing any other players

It's always funny and sad reading all the comments on youtube and other websites of people defending the game and the way they lied. You can't even argue with them either.

>memeing

ITT user tries to fit in on Sup Forums

Absolutely trash game that people fell for the marketing for.

TLDR; people are people, people are dumb as fuck

Not that guy but you used ITT wrong retard. It was just one post

I doubt that's enough to make a living though, I also doubt anyone will let him make another "game".

How long people play the game for has no effect on the money they make.

Had anybody asked Sean Murray to play the game himself for 30 fucking minutes, his cover would've been blown right there.

It's one of the main issues with the video games industry. People don't act like costumers, they act like a sports team fans.

>friend was shilling for this game and didn't understand why everyone was shitting on it
>tell him about the broken promises and performance issues
>tells me broken promises shouldn't detract from the experience and that he hasn't had any performance issues
>let me play for a little bit to prove his point
>"shit, this is really boring" but something else seemed really off
>look at graphics settings
>everything is on medium and the fps is locked at 30

blog aside, the only people who are still playing this game are the type of people who somehow don't find it boring to play minecraft in space for more than 30 minutes at a time

Paying 60 dollars for a product and expecting it to be what the developers promised already constitutes as entitlement these days?

I saw some guy say something along the lines of "How can you expect a trailer made in 2013 to be reflective of the game in 2016?"

I don't get these people, it's like they're not only happy to be deceived, but want to defend it too

...

>shitty game ends up being shit
>omg what went wrong guise?
I don't know user

...

they have a better chance to randomly see each other irl than in game

>I don't get these people, it's like they're not only happy to be deceived, but want to defend it too
Sean is basically the equivalent of their abusive boyfriend whom they keep coming back to out of a warped sense of denial-fueled pride. It's a pretty crazy phenomenon to see.

People are already pulling the "They will add new stuff in future updates"

I know you don't use facebook but sometimes you should, in pages like Kotaku and PC Gamer where they shill the game non stop you can read comments of deluded people that "love" the game but have never played it, nu males claiming there's online but it is very hard to find anyone and the occasional contrarian.

Let's all love Lain!

>player base has dropped by 90%
>they still have all those players' money

it was shit

...

It's time for you to rewatch Lain, user. Make her happy.

Nothing. What it does it does well which basically is nothing.

you children are absolute cancer

great job ruining what was once an avant garde piece of art

Nothing went wrong. They built up a shitload of hype. People bought into it. So they moved a shitload of copies of a shell game at a 60$ premium and made a mountain of cash.

By any measure, that seems like a pretty solid success.

Can I be FUCKING real for a second?

A tiny team of people made it repetitive? Maybe. Is the inventory system imperfect and the 3 or 4 thing with the people OWE YOU?

How fucking weeping in our chairs right now. You're all acting like a bunch of whiny, entitled do these people behind this this that weren't perfect. It was neverything you'd ever want in a game was an entire universe in a game was never want in recent memory.

Hello Games doesn't owe you 18 QUINTILLION of them.

A tiny team of the fucking to wake up to you want?

Is it buggy? Sure. Is it buggy? Sure. Is it repetitive? Maybe. Is it for 2 hours and you weren't deserve for YOU, and then you don't perfect and scale of they're going that instead of enjoying with the world. Yet they gave you 18 QUINTILLION of enjoying it, things that weren't perfect and are using the people made an entire universe first place.ng off one of them.

Is it buggy? Sure, fine.

But holy shit what? The game was exactly that to be was an impossibly big universe for you to explore an impossibly big universe filled with mysteries and it for 2 hours and the 3 or 4 thing with the praise they deserve for pulling off one of them.

If you have to be everything to be was an imperfect and they're going to complain about it then you don't deserve for pulling off one of enjoying it, thing with mysteries and weird shit. I just played it for YOU.

>implying the fanbase of a non 'multiplayer game' is capable of ruining it
>implying that as a piece of art it has lost any value
Next you'll be telling the that NMS was ruined by its fanbase.

You're too late with the pasta someone already beat you to it.

>Is it buggy? Sure. Is it buggy? Sure. Is it repetitive? Maybe.

Don't be stupid, user.

I thoroughly enjoy MMS.

Don't really understand the hate.

My pirated version from GOG doesn't even work

the executable stays on the task manager taking up to 2.7GB ram and it closes itself after a bit

but from what i've been reading maybe it's a good thing i can't get it working

...

>60k sold in the past 10 days
LOL

so you basically admitted lain was always shit

great job outing yourself as a trend hopping fake weeb shitter, you're actually retarded.

It's a shit game without substance and style.

No modding tools so that people can't try to fix thier game Bethesda-Style

slightly underrated post

He needs to cover the costs doesn't he? It was in development for like 5 years which had to cost a significant amount of money even if it's just 15 people, right? The publishers will also take a cut, especially sony since they did all the marketing they are going to take a big cut.

this comic is actual bullshit

We were 100% lied to about dozens of features

user I don't think you know how money is distributed in these kinds of games. And no, when someone buys the game, the devs don't get $60.

it's almost as if the guy promised a multiplayer that never happened

...

if its a bad game then how do you explain this

When Blizzard lies about pvp in Diablo 3 nobody says nothing. Hilarious. Proves which fanbase is delusional.
