How are AMD CPUs for PC Gaymen? I now AMD gets meme'd here constantly but I've never had any issues with AMD GPU's. So I was wondering how decent the CPU's are.

Wait for Zen. AMD FX series are old as shit. Zen will be the new thing in the coming year.
Good ol phenom IIs are good dunno about the new ones.
I got tired of "Wait for Zen" meme and got the Athlon X4 880k. I mostly emulate though. I haven't had any problems.
Mah nigga, still rockin' that Phenom II X4 960T.
But it is getting old, waitan for Zen.
They are overheating crap, though cheap
They are literally garbage. 2010 performance at 2016 prices. There's literally no excuse to buy AMD right now unless it's for a facebook machine for grandma.
Zen isn't coming until next year and might compete with 2014 intel chips.
Just tuned up my 955 BE, still usable in new games. very happy
I don't play many brand new releases but I upgraded from a 4100 to 8370e earlier this year and it seems pretty good
>never owned AMD CPU
kek
AMD CPUs has max safe temps of 60ish. They operate around 50 on load with overclocks
they're ok until you play an open world sandbox and you quickly realise how big a bottleneck the AMD CPU is. Wait for Zen.
>Overheating
Sounds more like a cooler problem
This. They would be fine for super budget gaming if they were dirt cheap, but they are not. Fastest amd crap can't beat an I3 in games, while being more expensive.
I really hope Zen does not flop, I want a red cpu for a change, nothing but intel since core 2 duo.
>running within 10c of shutdown temps
>not overheating
m8, seriously.
No they simply run hotter than intel of similar performance
They're not bad in anyway, meaning that they don't have any hardware faults that will impact you. They're just woefully behind intel's offerings in performance.
Summit Ridge is not a gaymen CPU. Its a highly threaded prosumer/workstation chip for content creation workloads like intel's i7E line.
Its competing against Haswell-E and Broadwell-E, not mainstream i5s and i7s.
The mainstream Raven Ridge APU won't be out until mid year.
They're fine for most purposes. Most people will do just fine with AMD, but they get more expensive Intel cpus anyways because shilling & stores make more money off you that way.
I guess it just sounds cool to say you got an i7 so everyone gets it by default even though it's way overkill for most games. So it's throwing money into a hole.
It doesn't matter if it "flops" or not. They can't compete with intel on CPUs. They have for precisely one generation of their existence, about a 1 year period.
Don't expect something that can compete with intel. They aren't capable of producing it. They don't have the engineers.
Intel 2014 cpu compete with Intel 2020 cpus.
They have less than 5% increase performance per generation.
Thats for die, not core. Core is around 70c or something.
I don't expect them to beat them in performance or anything, I know that's impossible, I just want an alternative for i3-i5 that's actually worth buying.
make or break for AMD. I'm hoping Zen is a success. I won't be investing as I already upgraded to a 6600k. Had AMD pulled their fingers out and released Zen sooner I may have gone red again.
>I have literally no idea what I'm talking about: The Posts
The top end of the new Opteron line is a 180w 32c/64t octa channel chip that outperforms intel's 165w 24c/48t quad channel Xeon E7 8890v4 across the board in throughput.
They are absolutely shit.
they're shit. my friend has an 8350 (stock) and an msi r9 390 and the 8350 bottlenecks the shit out of the 390 whilst running at housefire temps with a good noctua cooler. the 8350 has inferior performance per core than a fucking i3 6100.
I'm telling you it will not be one.
Here comes the Intel shills.
Can someone point me an AMD cpu tree visual guide or something? Because they have more different sockets that I have subfolders in my porn folder so I'm completely lost
>throughput
Is not a measure of computing power
I got one and I never had a problem until I tried to play ARK
Pretty good value.
Well. Wait for Zen, these Pileshit FX are really really shitty. Are just Phenom II with more cores. The weakest i5 3xxx or 4xxx can beat the fastest FX using much less energy.
The APU are good if you just want to make a media hub, pretty reliable still, there will be Zen APUs too and we don't know yet what they will be capable of.
Shutdown temp of most AMD CPU is 80C.
62C is the recommended maximum temp for 24/7 use.
Socket AM1 is nothing but super low power Kabini Athlons. 25w chips made for ultra poorfag machines.
AM2 and AM3 are old Athlon 64s, Phenoms, and Phenom II chips.
AM3+ is Zambezi and Vishera. The desktop Bulldozer family chips.
FM1 is the Llano APU
FM2 is the Trinity/Richland APUs
FM2+ is the Kaveri/Godavari APUs.
Socket AM4 is their newest, and now only relevant socket. It houses the upcoming Summit Ridge CPU and Raven Ridge APUs based on the new Zen core arch.
Yes, it literally is.
The combined processing power of all cores on a chip is throughput. Throughput is how performance for servers and HPC workloads is measured.
Tech illiterate retard.
on top of outdated performance you screwed yourself over because if you want to upgrade your gpu you are held back by a shitty cpu and also have to buy a different motherboard.
Amd cpus work fine in general for steam games and shit but youll be lacking the true pc experience.
then again if youre a neet or work at burger king for the rest of your life go ahead with a budget build.
a few years ago the fx series held up decently against intel cpus slight differences in gaming. but now intel is way ahead
Historically the breakdown is
>AMD for bang for buck
>Intel for top tier quality and max performance
Nothing wrong with AMD if you are cheap/kiddo/poorfag. When I finally made the jump to MUSTARDRACE back in 2010 I built AMD CPU/GPU (Phenom II X6/6970).
Worked fine, but it aged quickly and have been on Intel/NVIDIA since. Performance is way stronger but the jew tax is heavy.
>Socket AM4 is their newest, and now only relevant socket.
These are not even in store where I use to gaze at parts. Guess I'll have to buy in internet.
There are no consumer AM4 boards for sale yet, OEM only at the moment.
The Summit Ridge CPU won't be available for some time yet.
For gaming the fx series is shit.
Going from a fx6300 to a 8300 dos nothing for gaming.
Zen might be good but for now.. Better go with an intel
Phenom/Athlon is/was good for gaming but fx is just shit.
...
>Believing amd after the lies that were the fx series and polaris (ie 480)
>being a tech illiterate retard only capable of regurgitating things you don't understand
The only misinformation about the BD family came from a marketing guy posting on OCN about what he "heard" from the engineering staff. The benches AMD showed prior to the FX 8150 launched depicted exactly what the arch was. A core that only excelled in one category of workload.
There was no misinformation at all regarding the RX 480, and there is no problem with it either.
you sound mad? why are you mad ayymd shill?
the 480 was a lie right from the beginning when they claimed it would rival a gtx 980 based on their 3dmark results. how anyone can buy amd after they lie constantly with every gen is beyond me. eg the "overclockers dream" fury x.
i bet i know about this shit that you. stay mad son.
than*
Which model number? Oh yeah, you're just pulling shit out of your ass
The 1060/480 paired a 860k is fine for a budget build. Don't listen to the mustard fags you'll get 1080p/60fps in most everything without breaking the bank.
>860k
you can spend literally $10/15 more to get an fx 6300 which is still shit, but better than an 860k.
"They" didn't lie about anything. You're mistaking random internet leaks for official statements, and you're not even getting them right.
The statement in relation to Fury being an overclocker's dream about specifically about the cooler and the board's VRM, not about the ASIC.
If you actually had a functioning IQ above 80 you wouldn't be fooled by clickbait headlines.
>being this laughably clueless
anandtech.com
Each die is 8 cores and 2 memory channels.
The 32c Opteron is a 4 die MCM with 8 channel memory.
As always this board proves its populated by underage tech illiterate retards capable only of shitposting and regurgitating stupid meme images.
AMD IS SHIT DO NOT FALL FOR THE MEME I REPEAT DO NOT FALL FOR THE MEME
They're not even that much cheaper.
why are you so salty? the click bait articles were about it being better than a gtx 1070 at 1400 mhz. the official 3dmark results weren't clickbait you retard. kyle was right, stay mad.
the overclockers dream statement was used in comparison to the 980 ti. it had nothing to do with the cooler otherwise nobody would be bitching about it being the shittest overclocking card in recent history. a simple google search will confirm this. stop speaking out of your ass amdrone.
the 480 is actually more expensive than the 1060 here. what a shitty company amd is.
so many people begging to be fucked in the ass by big intel and nvidia cock these days. it's not always been like this, sadly.
i'm cheering for zen, don't want a fucking monopoly in this industry.
shit for emulation, passable for everything else
>tech illiterate retard has to outright lie to defend himself
Typical.
Joe Macri made the statement. It was specifically about the cards cooling and VRM.
youtu.be
Kyle from HardOCP is butthurt that his free review GPUs stopped coming in. The Polaris cards were designed to be cheap. As such they're simple dies with limited ROPs, and they're clocked high to make up for the limited pixel throughput. They're not in anyway intended to be perf/watt beasts. They have high margins at a low ASP for OEMs and mid range consumers.
Though you're too much of a tech illiterate retard to understand a single word of this.
Lying on the internet
This.
>go shopping for Intel CPU
>find a CPU you like
>cannot be overclocked unless you buy the more expensive overclockable version
>fucking OVERCLOCKING, a bog-standard feature that was available for free prior to Sandy Bridge even when doing it was unintentional, is something that costs extra
>people will defend Intel for this
I'm just following a couple guides. How am I doing? Do I need an HDD and SSD?
AMD LOL
and he was talking about it in relation to the 980 ti by making that implication. did you even watch you own video?
no one is butthurt about not receiving amd cards since they do it to literally everyone who doesn't give them favorable reviews like eteknix and kitguru. polaris was designed to be easy manufacture and to have a high margins. they had to push the limit of gcn's capabilities with its short pipeline to achieve high clocks which has bitten them in the ass because of the low rop count. they overvolted every card just to get as many out into the stores which also bit them in the ass because of the whole memory controller debacle which caused excessive draw from the pcie slot and which caused them to lose their pci-sig certification. they did all of this and yet it's still more expensive, hotter, shit at overclocking and slower than a gtx 1060. they even tried to grab the laptop market with polaris which nvidia recently stole off them with the 1060/70/80 laptop chips. what a massive fucking flop. anyone who defends ayymd is a deluded retard.
>still lying though his teeth
>even more tech illiterate shitposting
>blindly regurgitating what you read on Sup Forums and anandtech forums without understanding a single word of it
>all in a run on paragraph with shit punctuation and capitalization
>Because you were probably crying like a babby while typing it
The high clocks in the Polaris series and limited ROP counts are design choices. Nothing bit them in the ass anywhere. The 14nm LPP process provides an increase in fmax over 28nm HPP, and the arch was designed with that in mind.
AMD is regaining GPU market share, they've secured several huge OEM contracts for their Polaris GPUs, including Alienware and Apple who will use them in a 5K iMac refresh and a new MBP.
Why do you underage tech illiterate shitposting retards get so upset when you fail to argue?
Still using my oced phenom ii 955
Not the other guy, but shouldn't AMD make a huge profit out of console sales alone?
AMD's console APUs sales, their semi-custom business, totally provides for their bottom line.
Those chip sales have single handedly made up for their declining desktop sales since the BD family launched back in 2011.
They've sold over 50,000,000 PS4 and Xboner chips since the consoles launched. Thats on top of the up front design fee Microsoft and Sony paid for them.
stop projecting all that asshurt at my superior knowledge compared to you.
>The 14nm LPP process provides an increase in fmax over 28nm HPP, and the arch was designed with that in mind.
stop stating the obvious. the fact amd has specifically built an architecture for the 14nm process yet it still gets blown the fuck out by a die shrunk maxwell shows how shit amd really are. even adored tv admits polaris is shit.
>AMD is regaining GPU market share
because of the new wave of buttcoin miners. i'm sure amd will enjoy paying for and sending thousands of replacements to all those miners when their cards fry themselves within the warranty period.
>they've secured several huge OEM contracts for their Polaris GPUs, including Alienware and Apple who will use them in a 5K iMac refresh and a new MBP.
and you're implying nvidia hasn't got contracts of their own? fuck outta here. you just got blown the fuck out. stop damage controlling
>incoming damage control from an asshurt ayymdrone fanboy :^)
This. I hope Zen works better with emulators.
Pascal is not "die shrunk Maxwell" any more than Ivy Bridge is a shrink of Sandy Bridge.
Its new arch with a longer pipeline.
Really you're just showing how utterly childish you are. Typical tech illiterate retard shitposting.
FX-6300, yeah haven't had any problems even though it's old, play most stuff on high settings and it doesn't drop frames, I also edit videos from time to time
clock for clock pascal is the exact same as maxwell you utter spastic. just because they took advantage of the process shrink to bump up clocks and optimize for a longer pipeline it doesn't mean they're not fundamentally the same arch. neck yourself buddy. you've been unable to refute anything i've said and i'm apparently a "Typical tech illiterate retard". if i'm that and you can't refute anything i've said then what are you?
i found a pic of you btw.
>proving beyond a doubt that you don't understand any of the words you're using
The architecture is different, it has a longer pipeline that favors higher clocks. The increased clockspeed is not due solely to process. Haswell being based on P6 many iterations ago doesn't detract from it in anway, and Pascal being a refined Maxwell doesn't detract from it either.
You're just an underage autsitic tech illiterate retard. No one has to refute anything you say, because you aren't really saying anything of consequence. Just using words you don't understand, trying to argue with people who know far more than you ever will.
The FX series is a piece of shit and the greatest buyers remorse I've felt in my entire life. It's a shame because the Phenom II series was really good for the price.
very good mid/low range and budget gaymen pc's if you have $1000 to spend then get intel, if you only got like 600 amd is the way to go. also wait for the new cpus
(you)
>he still can't refute anything i say
>"i-it's not solely..." (ie i'm right)
you still this mad ayymd fanboy? relax, i've been going easy on you this whole time yet still blew you the fuck out. no need to be so asshurt :^)
>autsitic
nice spelling.
Thinking about upgrading my 750 TI to a GTX 1060, with an FX-6300. How big will that bottleneck be? Probably gonna upgrade to an i7 but will do that later on.
Have the same pairing. CPU OCed to 4.2ghz.
It's a massive improvement over my old 7870, so I'm assuming the CPU isn't fucking things up too badly.
Take that as you will. I also plan on upgrading the CPU in the coming months.
Yes
Wait for Zen. If you can't and need a cheap cpu get the i5- 6400
The 3GB version? How long will it stay current in your opinion? Don't want to upgrade again for another few years.
Not him but you're pretty fucking retarded for using WHQL drivers as an argument.
WHQL does not mean that they're stable, it's just some shitty licence paid to Microsoft to include their drivers in their Windows Update.
Anyone using AMD knows that the correct way is going with Beta drivers anyways, and they're stable as fuck, I've been running Beta drivers the past 6 years and have yet to encounter a single problem.
>hurr durr I do not get a popup notification for new drivers so it means that they do not have stable drivers hurf durf
>I've been running Beta drivers the past 6 years and have yet to encounter a single problem.
off yourself. are you going to deny this now?
Why AMD keeps making all that range of CPU when all of them are inferior to the shittiest core CPU? They could just make a single CPU and call it like REIEUFX-345 Buy Me Please I Promise I Am Better Then Celeron
>bug that was fixed the next day after the push
>meanwhile nvidia released drivers that bricked, burned and gimped cards
Glass roofs, another retarded image for an argument.
I have the 6gb.
If you're going to sit at 1080p I'd reckon it will last you for years. That's me, though. I used my 7870 for about 4 years before I felt like upgrading.
When it comes to gaming the CPU barely makes a difference in the first place. I'm on the FX-6350 6 core and I run all my games at max @ 1080p fine with my r9 380.
>b-b-but
yeah nice comeback retard.
got any proof of that gimping for me from reputable sources? decreasing performance etc
i'll be waiting here.
Fallout 4 :)
THIS FUCKING POST RIGHT HERE.
I had a Phenom II 955 BE and that thing was killer, paired it with an HD 5850 and it lasted me for nearly 4 (FOUR) fucking years or something until I upgraded to an fx8350 and an r9 390 which was the biggest fucking letdown god has and will ever witness on this planet.
For their respective times, the phenom II and HD 5000 series were fucking futuristic alien technology compared to the fucking slav cooking appliances that are the r9 390 and fx series CPU's.
AMD was my childhood, but now it's time to grow up.
Pic related, upgraded to a 6700k and framerates have improved significantly, especially in games like arma 3 and gtaV as well as emulators like Dolphin.
Planning to invest in a 1080 at the end of the month so the police choppers don't think I'm growing a fucking amazon rainforest's worth of weed if they go over my neighbourhood with a thermal camera and see my rooftop light up like a fucking christmas tree (or more likely: a house fire)
For those of you who still think AMD is like it was in 2010-2011, things have changed and it's time to move on.
hm, sorry what was that? no proof? oh ok.
cheers for showing how retarded you really are though :^)
Still have my 1090t but that shit started to annoying me lately, i cant play RO2 and Vermintide if i dont activate/deactivate something in the bios
I'm not a macro posting retard m8, all you gotta do is head to Google and type "nvidia gimping drivers".
Aside from speculative websites there are legit benchmarkers that proved it with numbers.
Have fun droning for free though, your money, don't go talking shit if the "company you support" (KEK) does the same and at times even worse though.
Actually this happened to me and I had one other bug that was annoying and would set my clock speed and memory speed to half or something like that, I rolled back and they were fixed really fast.
Now I'm getting 980 ti numbers on my r9 390 in Doom. God bless compute cores and god bless AMD
same. i had an ati card like 3 years ago and sold it mainly because my fps was tanking every other game release. the classic amd shit drivers.
oh you mean like
bytemedev.com
youtube.com
or the many other videos which came up showing there's no gimping. i hadn't actually seen that first article before now so thanks for showing me. it's solidified my belief in nvidia not gimping their drivers because an actual user himself has proven it. :^)
What. No. I had a 965 BE and it bottlenecked my 760. Upgraded to 4790K and it's a fucking beast.
It better should be for that price
Fx 9590 with gtx 1070. How fucked am I?
>Fx 9590
For what purpose?
I have an alien motherboard that only accepts AMD and 9590 was the most powerful cpu I could find.
You're holding your 1070 back, bro.
>alien
fucking foreign hardware
So you build PC with enthusiast GPU and Penthium-tier CPU
lol fuck that. a fucking $100 i3 6100 is better for gaming than that piece of shit you currently have.
never buy amd.
