What is Sup Forums's opinion on speedrunning?

Waste of time that could be spent on playing other games, or pure dedication to be the best?

Full speedrun of gif above

Speedrunning: An indescribable compulsion to manifest autism.

i like it because seeing how much you can break
and exploit a game is fun.
but since it requires dedication to do well Sup Forums will call it autistic

I see speedrunners the same way I see completionists, one coin/life runs, lel crazy combo fags
i.e. pure autists that might entertain

some games are really great for it and others arent

fucking 6 hours "speedruns"

>6 hour speedruns

I can't even describe the hatred that I feel for these people, these games just CAN NOT be gone through quick

I MEAN JUST LOOK AT SHIT

It's the logical progression of displaying skill in single player games. If you follow the skill of single player games to the ultimate limit, you'll end up doing insane challenge runs or outright speedrunning. With multiplayer games, your ultimate display of skill come down to tournaments and participating in e-sports.

Recognize it requiring skill and dedication, but it's the type of skill (rote memorization) that I personally don't take joy in.

>GTA: San Andreas 100% speedrun
>World record is 14 hours and 21 minutes
that requires some crazy amount of dedication

At what point does a speed run stop being a speed run?

If it's longer than 2 1/2 hours imo

Speedrunning Vince Vaughn puts it best:

something something owen wilson wow

2
YEAR
ANNIVERSARY

JOHN FUCKING NUMBERS

Speedrun that respects the boundaries of the game and doesn't rely on exploiting glitches or bugs, only on the skill of the player are great.

Speedruns like the one in OP's gif are autistic cancer.

>2 1/2 hrs
If it's longer than 30 minutes, it's not a speedrun.

>Session time
>40 hours
what the fuck

someone post the link

thinkin about getting into running this

I like seeing how much I can cum
And exploiting ponies is fun
but since it requires dedication to do well Sup Forums will call it autistic

>comparing masturbating to mastering a video game
wew

I used to love watching speed runs on YouTube when I as younger. I was never good enough at any game to record one but I remember trying to speed run the original Portal.

Autism

Fun to watch at least

>That pic

Glitched speedruns are fun, but player ability can get the way of the glitches so TAS is the best.

I think it's an interesting concept in theory but it attracts the worst autistic manchildren so I never bothered following the scene.

They're occasionally enjoyable to watch, if you've beaten the game in question, but if you actually waste time running games or watching streamers for hours on end, there is something very wrong with you.

They're great to watch if they use high skill/technique. Speed runs that use glitches are awful though.

>Portal

Actually one of the speedrunning games that I don't really like watching since it's just too fast

When I was a kid I used to play the fuck out of Metroid Fusion. I went for a 1:59 or better run and got 2 hours, shit pissed me off.

Soeedruns are fun to watch since it showcases a ridiculous amount of skill and dedication. It's refined autism that is usually enjoyable to watch.

This desu, watching the occasional speedrun is fun, but actually trying to seriously do it yourself and watching that shit for hours on end is downright aspergers tier

It's TAS btw

The 8 minute one is almost the same

Sometimes I think it's because of this that GDQ became "nofunallowed"

it was kind of cool with games like OoT where they're breaking the game but with most modern games that are little more than glorified hallways it's pretty pointless

It's just another way of playing the game.
