Melee

Does Sup Forums like super smash brothers melee or not? I am confused.

Sm4sh is more fun.

Melee is objectively the best super smash game, but there are some contrarian who prefer brawl or even unironically ssb4.

speaking of avatarfagging, what ever happened to that guy who would avatarfag as ROB?

And Sup Forums, like anywhere else, has a differing opinion based on the user. I'd argue that it's damn close to 50/50 for preference of melee or another game in the series, taking that into account it would mean that a majority of Sup Forums denizens like melee, yes, though that's not to say they don't like other versions of smash, they just like melee the most.

at the bottom casual level, yeah.

Of course.

Who /peachy/ here?

>ROB threads
fuck, it's been like a million years.

Because is the most skilled and competitive fighting game in history. SSB4 is a joke in both aspects.

I'm not sure lemme ask him

Project M is objectively better but it's a hack so nobody will ever take it seriously.

Melee is great though. Sm4sh is okay too. 64 is cool. Brawl is the only unarguably, irredeemably shit-tier Smash game, even if the others do have flaws they don't even compare to the shitshow of Brawl

do you feel any sense of guilt whenever someone accidentally crouch cancels your down smash?

But brawl is better.
And let's not forget the melee fanbase

>project M
what? What's that?

>Sup Forums is one person
Are you stupid?

>But brawl is better.

Fuck off skeletor

>Project M is objectively better but it's a hack so nobody will ever take it seriously.

thistbh

>Project M is objectively better
It isn't. Buffering every single move isn't good game design. It has dozens upon dozens of boring to play match ups, imagine a game like melee where there are dozens of Samus vs puff match ups. Frustrating and boring to play and watch. Nobody dies in that game because evryone has a 10/10 recovery. It has a frame input assist buffer. try to play PM for a straight week and then go back to melee. You will feel crippled. Overall, though, PM is the best smash bros game, but not competitively.

Plenty of people like it. Enough for recurring threads for the major tournaments. A lot of people speak out against it though, but if you ask them to elaborate it's almost always terrible/misinformed reasoning behind it.

>he replied to him

>Overall, though, PM is the best smash bros game, but not competitively
At least we can agree on that. I can't speak for the highest levels of play because I only go to locals, and play with friends, but in those situations I find PM to be a much better game than Melee.

I'd be interested to hear more about the frame buffer stuff though, I never knew that. I had heard about it once but I could've sworn it was removed by 3.0 onwards. I might've been thinking of something else.

When i have my bros over we boot it up with 2 boxes of papa johns, shits cash

> imagine a game like melee where there are dozens of Samus vs puff match ups.

Because watching dozens of Fox vs Fox match ups is so interesting and definitely doesn't get old after watching the same thing for 10 years.

Brawl and smash 4 have a 10 frame input assist buffer. Project M runs on the brawl engine. It is impossible to completely remove the input buffer, for...reasons i don't know. Ask the devs. i assume you have heard that everything in PM is quite a bit easier to execute than in melee, right? It's because of that + the devs having increased the frame window of each move. I swear i couldn't even do a simple wave shine with fox after we went back to PM.

Are you good at melee? I am ranked 3rd in my country.

>tourneyfags want smash to be a serious fighting game
>the only way this happens is if you cut out all the mechanics that make smash unique and ban half the maps
why not just play a regular fighting game then?

I agree
A lot more variety in matches. I can have a lot of fun with 90% of 4's roster unlike in melee where half the characters feel like ass.

The didn't remove the buffer completeyl but it's like 1 frame now + the frames the devs decided to make easier, like fox's short hop window.
when will this shit finally stop? Every single major/super major has had at least 7 different characters in the top 8. Calm down dude.

yes

but fuck you for putting Asuka right by based Melee

Not me, it's from the Legendary thread yesterday.

I love it. I love the announcer's voice, the sound effects (which they really softened in brawl and continue to do so in sm4sh), and the music. I always played Link because of his weapon diversity and I'm a sucker for swords. They should have just kept making melee but with more characters.

>1 frame of lag always making the game feel weird
>mega buffed slow characters that kill you in one touch
>broken recovery options
it's fine but

Sup Forums definitely liked Melee about 2 years ago. But then it started getting more popular and the competitive scene was hitting a mainstream audience (both things which Sup Forums hates). Then Smash 4 came out and that has become Sup Forumss smash baby because its genuinely easier to play and is the newest in the series.

I feel like neither Smash games are looked at fondly on Sup Forums to be honest. But the sheer fact that the Melee competitive scene is present and some what stagnant, with only 6-7 characters on the roster viable in this scene makes Sup Forums hate on it more than Smash 4.

I enjoy both and watch Melee streams quite a bit, but this is my take on how most of Sup Forums see's Smash at the moment, memes aside.

If you care about melee balance, there are many people who have either released individual characters that are buffed to about samus level,
or entire mods like SD remix that try to put everyone on fox's level (pm-esque).

It's still a game that has something for everyone.

I had a ton of fun with Smash 4, but only for about 6 months. The DLC characters revived it for a bit, before I got tired of it again. This is a problem I have with a lot of new games where I will play them in long sittings for a couple of weeks to some months, then get bored with it.
I did the same with Brawl, but for some reason that game lasted longer. Maybe because there weren't so many games for the Wii at the time, but the Wii U has quite a few titles I'd rather play than Smash 4.
For some reason, me and my friend started playing Melee a lot in 2010 and I've been keeping it up ever since. Netplay is a godsend.

>Fox vs Fox
>He still thinks fox v fox is dominant in the scene

Test

hey, just a reminder that today is the 15th anniversary of the very first Melee tournament

AHAH
MY CAMPAIGN OF CANCER CARRIES FORTH

As I understand this issue, there are actually three things at play here

>Controller Input Lag
In Brawl, every single input had between 0-2 frame input delay, which was also randomized (I have no idea why they thought this was a good idea). This input delay was, however, removed by Project M 2.5

>Frame/Input Buffer
In Brawl and Smash 4 there is also an input buffer, which allows you to input movements up to 10 frames before they can actually be executed. This was probably to compensate for online play, although it can also be used to set up your next move whilst you're still performing an action. This no longer exists by default in Project M, but a smaller 3-frame input buffer can be turned on in the options

>The 1-frame physics delay
Brawl, for some reason, has a one frame delay on all physics actions. This does not, to my knowledge, apply to things like attacks and rolls (which come out on the correct frame), but does apply to dashing, changing direction, jumping and anything else which may change your momentum. This means that if you jump in PM, although your animation will start at the same time as it did in Melee, your actual physics and momentum changes would not occur until a frame later than they would've in Melee. I don't know much about this one but to my knowledge it has not been removed in PM.

Hope that's cleared things up for everyone.

i wonder what's sakurai is up to right now

did he announced that he has a new project to work on?

>but only for about 6 months.
See this is the thing with games that dont offer any depth in gameplay. There is nothing to master. Of course you are going to get bored. 6 months is literally nothing in melee.

youtu.be/hbR7L7PlcBE

This is reason enough to look into modded Melee. I really wish there was some kind of mod that everyone agreed was superior than the original. Not talking 20XX TE, but a balance mod that just slightly fixes some characters.

...

original>melee>smash

haven't played any of the others doh

not even the best hack

youtube.com/watch?v=JG1XuEt8XO0

SD Remix?

I loved Melee

Kirby was my preferred character
god bless that pink ball of doom

Sm4sh was fun, but it didn´t catch me like Melee

When I was a kid I enjoyed melee casually, items, any character goes, kirby was praised for his god recovery since none of us edgehogged (on purpose) and barely tried to edgeguard.

I then played brawl casually but without items because theu didnt feel right like in melee. It was good fun.

Now I'm playing smash 4 and it's fun to play casually, but items feel wrong as well so we don't put em in either.

>If you're playing to get your esports dick stroked or for Gamecube nostalgia, you should play Melee
>If you're only playing "semi-competitively", aka small local tourneys and/or with some friends and some beers, you should play Project M
>If you're playing for funsies with some less experienced smashers, or you just want to kick back and play some dumb online matches after a day of work, you play Smash 4
>If you want to play for some fucking retarded combos or for N64 nostalgia, you should play Smash 64
>You should never play Brawl
There we go. This is objectively correct. Every game in the series has it's role. I prefer Melee and Project M but they're all different strokes for different folks.

I'm sure that guy is planning to release a package when he gets done.

Right now he's showing them off one by one and giving us the mods as he's done. Partly for the views, but also because it does take a while to think about and execute these mods.

And don't really count on any "definitive" version being at tournaments. The PM debacle (unfairly but another topic) nixed that from happening.

Brawl Minus is shite mate, neck yourself

>can't handle 64

Shit man, get it together.

PM has a very different way of balancing the roster though. I'd rather see slight buffs that make characters not shit, maybe even good, but not everyone needs to be Fox tier. There is nothing wrong with a bit of unbalance, in my opinion. It makes low tier heroes a lot more exciting.

I genuinely don't see what Smash 4 does that PM or Melee does not.

are these article of Sakurai praising Melee's following and direction yet wants to keep future Smashes in the middle ground direction?

why do people keep saying he hates Melee?

irrelevant, but if smash 4 was a tad faster and had fall speeds that weren't that of a feather for most characters, it would be very fun competitively

I'm so confused as to why he thinks this. Did anyone who's not underage b& honestly play Melee for the first time and think "wow, this game is hard"? Every Smash game to date is great at a casual level. Only one has a difficult skill ceiling from a "hardcore" perspective and that's Melee, simply because it's been around for so long and tech has been discovered.

seems like you cleaned the jizz from yesterday off her real good.

I just hate the tourneyfags desu famiglia

I also prefer the approach too. While fox still has all the tools that make him a good character in this approach, its hard to truly foretell how these modifications translate after x amount of time. So I'd rather these baby steps.

Holy fuck I remember people used to hate the R.O.B threads or love them to death. Haven't seen one in about 2-3 years

>maybe normal fighting games are more suited for you.
I don't get this reasoning. It's that Smash is so very different from normal fighting games that make it fun and unique.

>You should never play Brawl
you should play Brawl for 4-player Ganon only items on FFAs on Mushroomy Kingdom Underground, with money bets on the line

He's never liked working on smash since melee.

He's stated several times he just wants to be done with it.

>can't handle 64
When did I say that? I said the combos in 64 were retarded. They are. Retardedly fun.
>I genuinely don't see what Smash 4 does that PM or Melee does not
It does casualization well. Also appeals to filthy rosterfags. It'd never be my first game of choice but if one of the bros brought his girlfriend around or some shit like that, Sm4sh is the better middle ground so everybody can have a laugh and pick their favorite piece of shit like Cloud.

Would personally still choose Melee or PM every time though, but Sm4sh does have its place.

Who is that girl? Is that a recolored D.Va figurine?

because due to people having hateboner for tourneyfags, they had to paint Sakurai like if he was the Anti-Spiral to competitive Smash or competitive anything.

this isn't anything new, fucking Sakurai know he seen as a big meme to the smash community.

>Sakurai: " I feel like there’s a misconstrued image of me floating around, unlike the Sakurai known to my friends, staff, or to myself. Perhaps it’s because so many kids fall into the target age range for the games I make, but people seem to love creating conspiracy theories about me. The truth isn’t that simple, though: I bear no ill will."

As of right now I just like grinding melee tech
my wavedashes are still shit on average. But I have perfect double laser, good ledgedashes double shines shield pressure close to frame perfect aerials...

this is an obvious bait, but you should be banned regardless.

>why do people keep saying he hates Melee?
because what else to discourage Melee fans from praising their game as high and might?

just speaking through another perspective

ROB moved to cripplechan as far as I remember, I haven't checked the place in a long time so I have no idea if he still posts there.

I know this is bait but still.

>Sakurai: " I feel like there’s a misconstrued image of me floating around, unlike the Sakurai known to my friends, staff, or to myself. Perhaps it’s because so many kids fall into the target age range for the games I make, but people seem to love creating conspiracy theories about me.
LOL he does know

So it's not?

THIS NIGGA STILL PLAYS WITH DOLLS LMAO

>feel like there’s a misconstrued image of me floating around
really makes you think

it's the best game of all time
there are very few games that can be played for so and still keep getting new discoveries and entertain people, by playing or watching it

I implore you to stop.

You know it would be funny if sakurai had a little match with some random kid and busted out tech people still haven't found.

it's def one of the deepest mechanically.

Melee's fanbase might be pretty elitist but it's nowhere near as cancerous as any of the above. And that's just off the top of my head

>Sakurai: "Melee is the sharpest competitive smash."
>Sakurai: "no, this does not mean i'm going to make Melee 2 or something like that, either go play Melee or play fighting games."
he isn't leaving Smash Bros isn't he?

in that same interview, he even recommends people to play VF2

Virtua Fighter fucking sucks

...

>I feel like there’s a misconstrued image of me floating around, unlike the Sakurai known to my friends, staff, or to myself.
you god damn right there's a twisted image of Sakurai somewhere in the Smash fandom

You REALLY have not seen many fanbases if you think Melee's even in the top 10.

Actions speak louder than words, Saki.

>because due to people having hateboner for tourneyfags, they had to paint Sakurai like if he was the Anti-Spiral to competitive Smash or competitive anything.

You'd think this but on Smashboards, up to SSB4's release and a little later, literally every interview with Sakurai was mistranslated to imply he hated the competitive scene.

I remember vividly this one article where Sakurai was first quoted to say something along the lines of "Smash has no future if it caters to the competitive scene". Then it was later clarified as "Smash has no future if it caters SOLELY to the competitive scene". But people still got hung up on the first translation.

> there’s a misconstrued image of me floating around
>people seem to love creating conspiracy theories about me
what did he mean by this?

>Pit's Bow in the image
>people reaching this hard

''''sakurai'''' has been long dead, friend.

Melee has the best mechanics
Brawl has the best content
4 has the best roster

The buffer is optional, and turned off by default. It is not used in tournaments. There has never been a mandatory buffer in PM, it has always been off by default since 1.0. Currently if you go into the menu and choose input assist it will add a 3 frame buffer, but that is all.

The issue of the samus versus puff matchups was fixed in 3.5 when a lot of character gimmicks that lead towards campy ranged play were nerfed, as was all the characters having stellar recoveries.

Rosterfags will always be worse than any competitvefag, ya dense fuk

This is true

look guys i know you're trying to peace treaty the divided smash fanbase but that really isn't going to happen

basically like saying all the offshoot christian groups or just Christian, Atheists, and Pagans easily should get along

i am not talking about that 3 frame assist buffer in the options. Everything is a LOT easier to pull of in PM and again, if you paly too much PM, you get crippled at melee.
