I thought it was fine functionally, but a lot of the weapons feel pretty samey in function. I liked having the non-lethal options like the riot guns.
A lot of times I would take bases by dropping a smoke air strike and run around knocking people out with the non lethal AR.
The explosives are pretty good too.

I hated that your weapon was default not in your hands, where as literally every other game in the series has your weapon in your hands unless you unequip. but that's a personal peeve.
Ignoring that one personal thing I was fairly happy with the gunplay, but Kojima games tend to hit the mark when it comes to that stuff.

unburnt powder is hardly an issue and is usually safe. It's the primer residue (which usually contains trace amounts of lead in of itself) as well as the lead dust from the actual bullet (depending on what bullet is used) that fucks people up.
