I've only played DMC4. Is there a reason why so many people dislike DMC2? What specifically makes it so bad? Should I play DMC 1 and 3?

DMC2 is really easy.
Can kill almost all enemies no problem with your gun, and things get staggered really easily.

Play 1, then play 2 afterwards and you'll see why. DMC 2 takes out just about everything interesting, exciting or fun that was in the 1st game. Combat is much more lackluster, guns are tremendously OP, level design is overall boring, and it has some of the worst bosses in action games.

DMC 1 is pretty good although at a smaller scale than 4. It's still well made with good challenge. 3 is probably the best in the series and you should totally give it a shot.

I remember the first time playing it. Bought it from Gamecrazy (RIP) and it only had the Lucia disk.

Pretty lack luster after having played 1.

it is good, but 2 is there to be there you dont need yo play it, besides dmc3 is like one of the best games ever made

I'd say still check out 2 for curiosity's sake cause it is interesting to see what features it introduced that got way more fleshed out in 3. That's like 2's only saving grace, as shitty as it was it still at least introduced some things that contributed overall to the franchise unlike DmC.
