Monitors for PC gaming, TVs for couch/console gaming.

I might get a promotion soon and will probably get a second job too, what's the best way to go about building a PC?

make a parts list, order parts, build computer

make sure you have the necessary cables and dongles if they're not included, a screwdriver, zip ties, and thermal paste

Monitors are more focus for single player gaming.

l plau Uncharted 4 in a small 23 icnh monitor... its was ok, miss the TV.

My monitor is fucking massive and it basically doubles as a tv. It has built in speakers too.

not that guy but how do you know what all the necessary cables and stuff are ?
And how do you know what pieces of hardware are compatible?
Seems like its not really worth my time to research this stuff when I could just be working and paying someone else to do this

The speakers on my Vizio TV and I had to buy a sound bar. I'm a sound nut, but I'm not a rich fag so this bar will do for now.

When I used a TV for my PC, it got really pissy about a lot of resolutions.

l notice little lag with the Nioh Demo, been playing in a big ass 65 inch HDTV for years.

be a monitor will be better? the font in the game its also very small, make my eyes squish.

Yes but they're not ideal for splitscreen and buying ones larger than 30" is pain in the ass.

TVs are just more convenient and cost effective if you care about size more than IQ. If you're anal and have the environment for it then get a projector.

Check if there's a game latency setting on your TV, it'll reduce the input lag by a lot

i'm anal bb ayy u wan sum fukk?

But I poop from there...

PCpartpicker.com has a good system of letting you know which parts are compatible and not... its not perfect but it's pretty good.

Plus once you're done planning you can order them all from that one site.

what's this then

Monitors generally win in response time by a mile. It's very noticeable if you switch. Single player cinematic games won't matter

16:9 for console gaming / FPS

16:10 for browsing

21:9 for any PC game that supports it

Televisions suck, get an IPS display.

36' 720p TV that I sit literally 3 feet away from for playing PC games on that I play at 1080p resolutions. Tell me how messed up I am Sup Forums.

That's a huge screen, each pixel must be at least 2 inches. Over one inch pixel is a definite fail

More cinematic games Television, for gamey games Monitor, for really fast-paced games the 120hz 144hz ones

Dark Souls III

Monitor or HDTV?

Console users aren't able to utilize those refresh rates for games. Worth mentioning

did you even read the thread or are you just retarded

My laptop is 3:2

I bet you can only play tetris on it.

I was playing some MMOS and when I returned to the consoles was quite difficult to get used to the long image of the TV.

even for single player games.

the future

The only acceptable kind of TV is a CRT. For LCD/Plasma, go with an IPS Monitor.

It's got a very dense resolution, but the black bars that show up in 16:9 videos make every video feel more """"""""""cinematic """""""""".

Legit question:

Games like MGR and Crysis 2 are forced to run on 23 FPS on full screen using an HDTV via HDMI. Windowed mode is an option but can I fix the issue if I connect my computer from the GPU's DVI port to the TV's HDMI port using an adapter?

the only reason to do it yourself is if your want to save money and or are passionate enough about stuff like this that you'd want to do it yourself, otherwise paying someone else to do it is always easier

Are people saying that monitors are better for gaming, even consoles?

WHAT THE FUCK?

Why wouldn't they be? Better image quality + less input lag means even FTG console players prefer monitors for gaming.

The only advantage TVs have is size/cost ratio.

All of them

>3:2

Surface Pro user detected

I fucking love my Pro

What the fuck hahahaha who the fuck buys a surface book, fucking fag.

I have the infinitely superior Surface Book, but I respect your choice.

I'm playing console games on a monitor, is it bad for my eyes?

I have never heard of the surface book and had no idea that MS decided to follow through with that crazy ass hinge design.

It's better for your eyes unless you're playing on some radioactive CRT.

Bro, I'm telling you right now it's legit. It's so well made, and that hinge is actually IMO better than conventional hinge designs, mostly because it's not prone to weakening like other laptops are. PLUS you can remove that screen just like a surface and use it as a tablet. The keyboard and touchpad are Elder God tier, too.

Is the surface book good for playing games relative to other laptops?

>ips meme

no thanks. last time i fall for that meme.

Take a look at websites like PCPartPicker and Logical Increments. Both will give you an idea about builds for your pricerange and the former tells you if you have a bunch of incompatible parts. It shouldn't be an issue though, I've helped friends pick out all kinds of builds from budget to enthusiast tier and never had an issue.

I had a friend help me, here's my list. copy/paste in amazon. its the perfect starter kit

god speed, user

for real, the surface book is god-tier

>Fractal

Literally the best looking cases on the market.

Too bad I was unlucky with the Fractal R5 and got one that ironically makes the most sound in my build due to the bottom dust filter vibrating against the case. Thankfully it's easy to fix but I thought my PSU was fucked before I figured out what the actual issue was.

IPS is fantastic. Faggots whine so much about the glow but it's completely unnoticeable on anything but a pure black screen.

Strange, I have an R4 and it's worked flawlessly for me. I have a huge ass Noctua fan and even that is quiet as a mouse.

My R5 is a really nice case but it's still somewhat louder than my old P180. That shit was nearly silent even with a Radeon 4870X2 and overclocked Q9550 mounted in it. It's too bad I lost the proprietary mounting hardware during a move or I would still be using it.

it really is

a guide to become a PC gamer (Pcuck)

the pc meme has to be endulged carefully

follow these & u r golden

>always buy factory oc'd mid range cards (google best bang 4 buck)

>pirate EVERYTHING

>pay $2 to russians to bypass denuvo games

>learn wat gfx settings mean

>play ONLY with wireless 360 pad & have pc connected to tv.

also try to buy gaming pc 2nd hand (this will save you $400 or more)

2/10 got me to reply, nice

Monitors for fighting games.

I didn't buy an aftermarket cooler, and my Intel i5 thing came with thermal paste pre-applied. I figured I was okay because my pc case came with extra fans, now I'm not sure. How fucked am I?

This sounds like a TV issue, funneling your gpu through an hdmi is likely pointless

user, they are better even for consoles

I use my tv as my main pc monitor but I have 2 monitors so when I'm gaming on console I just set the 2nd monitor as the default monitor so I can game and shitpost here at the same time.

I wouldn't recommend a tv as a monitor unless you're absolutely certain that your tv has a pc mode which removes all post processing and puts out a pretty much raw picture straight from the hdmi. I know most samsung tv's have it but others may not. You'd be sacrificing some image quality but you don't really need it when you're playing games. I have 2 different visual profiles on my tv for when I'm gaming or when I'm watching porn/movie to get that crisp response time or image quality for my HD porno/anime.

every*

Yes.

Never, ever game on a TV if you can afford to avoid it.

the saddest thing is some butthurt pspoor had to draw this

Stock coolers are shit and should be replaced ASAP

get a Hyper EVO 212 at minimum because it's a great air cooler for the price

and the best thermal paste that you can afford
overclocking.guide/thermal-paste-roundup-2015-47-products-tested-with-air-cooling-and-liquid-nitrogen-ln2/

>television
>good for anything

Hell no. I'd rather have a monitor for everything and anything. TVs have gimped settings and shitty pixels and they spy on you now.

Not required but always recommended. Get something like speccy and look it your temperatures. If it's overclockable and you're thinking about it, always cool

That game looks like fun. Can you make potions and sell them in town?

If you mean TV's the size of a standard desktop monitor, they're not good. Poor color reproduction which, at least for the monitor I have, makes everything really dark. Great for watching movies, but shit for playing darker toned games/areas in games. Don't recommend it.

>he doesn't use both

Go ahead and find parts on PC Part Picker and then wait till Black Friday/Cyber Monday. I spent about $1800 on my system and saved $400 by waiting for those sales.

PC Part Picker will show you a graph of the overall price over time. You'll notice a sharp drop later in November.

>Trying to install stock Intel cooler
>Almost break the goddamn motherboard in half trying to secure those pins

Never again. It's well worth the $30 to buy a third party cooler.

Thanks, I've seen no need to overclock yet with my 1070 and temps seem fine, if I get some spare dosh I'll look into getting one though.

Say hello to your new god.

144hzmonitors.com/monitors/asus-computex-2016-27-inch-4k-144hz-gaming-monitor/

Monitors are literally only good for games where you need super high frame rates, TVs are built better than monitors and you also get much bigger sizes for less money.

LOL i play my console on a monitor, and I fucking love it. I'm never going back to a tv

>TVs are built better than monitors
lolno
it's not some coincidence that tvs costs less money than monitors of equivalent size. only a retard would argue tv panels are superior quality wise.

these things are the fucking devil

lolyes, retard. Good TVs (ones that cost over $300, not those dinky little budget TVs made for kitchens or some shit) rival monitors in quality and have more uses. You're telling me you'd rather hunch over a screen at your desk like a faggot instead of sitting back in front of a 65 inch TV with zero difference between them besides max framerate?

>expecting >60 FPS on 4k
You'd have to experience the multicard meme with 1080s when playing any remotely modern game.

>4k
>144fps

playing tetris probably
does display port even support that?

This looks cute

They're better for some stuff, like fighting games.

If all you play is single player though, I'm not sure there is really any advantage.

>there are people alive in 2016 who legitimately think 21:9 is a good thing

>It's BIGGER so it's better!
How do you be this much of a simple-minded retard

I don't be anything, you on the other hand seem to enjoy pretending you're working in an office building while playing games and watching movies. A bigger screen will always be superior to a smaller one as long as the resolution is good.

Cool. Was referring to an OC cpu

>playing Brawl on a TV with Game Mode off

Jesus Christ it's like I'm trying to communicate with a lunar rover

Ignorance is bliss

>a bigger screen will always be superior to a smaller one
There is literally no reasoning for this, you are just a retard

Been using a TV for almost 6 years now, never used a high performance monitor. Don't see much need for it since I don't really do competitive shit.

>lolyes, retard. Good TVs rival monitors in quality

Wrong retard.

>MUH DESK

Thanks for confirming you don't know what you're talking about.

TVs have the exact same amount of uses as monitors you retarded fuckstick. Both are used to display images. Typical ignorant Sup Forumstard faggot spewing shit from his asshole.

TV's are usually cheaper inch-for-inch, but they also have slower response times and way less color/pixel accuracy than smaller monitors of a similar price.

If you're just console gaming from a few feet away it's not a big deal but there are differences.

Watch pc build guides on youtube to get an idea of what to get/how to build your pc

same desu.

i need a special monitor to do anything with computers :D

Probably not. I haven't tried.

>cheaper inch-for-inch
so is you're cock
