>One of the things that we have to do better when we launch the NX—we have to do a better job communicating the positioning for the product. We have to do a better job helping people to understand its uniqueness and what that means for the game playing experience. And we have to do a better job from a software planning standpoint to have that continuous beat of great new games that are motivating more and more people to pick up the hardware and more and more people to pick up the software. Those are the critical lessons. And as I verbalize them, they’re really traditional lessons within the industry. You have to make sure people understand the concept, you have to make sure you’ve got a great library of games, and when you do that, you tend to do well.
Nintendo wont repeat the same mistakes with NX
>uniqueness
"It'll be different this time." says the company with a trend of steadily declining home console sales sans one outlier
>preasu understanderu
Why don't they say "We're not calling it the Wii X, this time you'll know it's the new one!"?
I mean the name hasn't been announced yet so for all I know a few months from now it's gonna go:
>HERE WE ARE, THE UNVEILING OF THE NEW NINTENDO
>OKAY HERE WE GO
>IT'S CALLED THE "NEW WII U"
insert cynical post shitting on nintendo here
>great library of games
>Can only play Zelda
The Wii really was a terrible branding, but they clearly decided to stick with it for the long haul.
>Wii
>WiiU
>Miis
>Miiverse
>a bunch of games and other bullshit all centered around this
>Won't repeat the same mistakes
>Starts off with releasing in the middle of a generation again
>Won't have third party support again
Whoops
No, it will be called. Super Wii. They are going to bank on Nostalgia with the SNES.
I actually believe they are going to have as many games at launch as they can. Before they delayed games for a while to make sure third parties had plenty of times for games to sell, but usually the games were so forgettable that people didn't care and then the drought happened when devs pulled out of developing games for it, so Nintendo was screwed.
This time, I don't think Nintendo will care, they delayed the console to make sure they have at least 5 first party games for launch window and then will probably have even more first party games in the following months as they licensed them out.
I doubt it will help them though, console sales have been trending down for years and it has nothing to do with declining interest in games. It's about ease of access. Phones are fucking destroying the market and I think Nintendo knows this.
>PS4 sold 40 millions in 2 years without games
>consoles sales are trending down
They just need to release a good console, market it a bit and they're going to sell millions.
They're just never going to do that though
They won't make the same mistake because they're making all new ones such as not talking about the fucking thing at all or trying to tell people what it is.
I would argue that isn't what hurt them the most. If anything, it helped. People bought the Wii U as a companion machine to whatever they had, on the promises of new Mario or Zelda.
Now though, it's probably a mistake, people are really burnt out over most Nintendo properties except the super devote.
Third parties is more a matter of architecture. If it's still using Power PC, yeah, it's DOA. Barely any devs will know how to work with it and even if they do, they know that it's usually barely any profit and you have to hope for Nintendo fronting some of the cost.
I mostly meant downward for Nintendo. Sony's climb is nice to see, but lets see if the trend continues. Phones are still a threat to the market, with too many devs turning to them for quick cash. Some get burned, others don't.
If anything smartphone games are getting worse every year, not because they're bad but because there's so many of them fighting for the same consumers.
Shame consoles stores are also getting filled with trash thanks to indie support
>Nintendo won't repeat the same mistake.
Nope. That's exactly what they will do. Pokemon Go had made Nintendo a decent sum of money, and increased their market value by over 7 billion dollars.
Bear in mind that market value != revenue or profit. That said though, I imagine that the $7Bn market value increase has already gone straight to their head. So despite their promises, they'll fuck up again anyway, because their arrogance has no upper bound.
>Can only play Zelda
Actually, DQX and DQXI as well as Just Dance 2017 and Project Sonic 2017 have all been confirmed for NX.
As to whether or not DQX and DQXI get localized is probably up to whether or not DQVII remake sells well overseas.
they literally said the exact same thing before the Wii U launched. You're a retard if you believe any of this before we actually see anything
They said that they are moving away from Wii Brand.
Nobody read the interviews or shareholder meetings?
>Buying a NX for inferior multiplats
Might as well buy a xbone
>Pokemon Go had made Nintendo a decent sum of money
Niantic actually.
Nintendo only sees a small share of the spoils from Pokemon Go though the sales did increase their stock value for a time.
>PowerPC
Rumor mill has it, that's a high clocked ARM coupled with an Nvidia core.
Which is somewhat idiotic, due to the fact that all preceding consoles were ATi Cores. As a result, emulation will blow.
>AAA studios turn out garbage games with terrible on screen controls simulating a normal controller
>they barely sell
>candy crush and kim kardashian games earn a billion dollars with some of the lowest development costs ever since they're all made by chinks and street shitters
Its not the future we wanted, but its the future normies chose.
>inferior multiplats
We don't know if the tech for the NX will be superior to vanilla PS4 or not.
If it uses X2 then it will, if X1 then it won't while also functioning as a handheld with console powers (assuming the rumors are true).
Will it be getting multiplat AAA games?
If not, enjoy your Wii U 2.0, Nintendo.
They've got the Nintendrones locked in no matter what, but if they don't want to be the industry punchline for another generation they need more customers than childhood nostalgia alone will bring in.
sounds like all they want to do is improve marketing
>You have to make sure people understand the concept
>still no gameplay videos
>still no idea what it can do
>5 months til release.
>you have to make sure you’ve got a great library of games
>all they showed at e3 was a zelda game
>"We have to communicate the product better"
>Proceeds not tell us anything about the NX a mere 6 months from launch
that and actually have games at launch. Wii U didn't get a single worth playing game until over a year after it being out.
Not really a new mistake when its something they have always done. The problem is more that they extended the period of time that they usually leave us in the dark. The Wii's code name was told to us at E3 and then at TGS, we knew what the controller looked like and they showed the concept trailer of what they wanted us to be able to do with it.
That created hype and people rushed out to get it. Early adoption was so crazy for the Wii.
Without that early hype engine to fuel expectations, then they will have nothing and that's what is going to hurt them in the long run.
Advertising for the darn thing needs to start in the next few months to create hype over Winter, if they can do that, sales will be much better and then third parties will be more inclined to make games for it.
Better, but still a step behind everyone else. At least people won't look at Nintendo like they are crazy though.
Hiroshima said that he want games for the damn thing on launch.
I think they are looking for third parties or porting some stuff that was supposed to be for WiiU.
they could do it like the 3ds, 7 or so must haves a year for 3 years and then start staggering them
It's because they interviewed Reggie. Can Reggie make any decisions about the nx? Can he approve third party titles or green light new IPs or any of that stuff? If the nx is too "unique", developers won't want to multiplat or develop for it because it's a pain in the ass or way more expensive than hitting the sony/Microsoft share of the market, which is considerable. But ultimatley, only the selection of games matters. If Nintendo has another golden age where they do nothing but release Paper Marios and Splatoons, then people will buy the console even if there's no third party support at all, but that's not a safe bet.
considering they now have all their developers making games on one platform, since the NX is also supposed to replace the 3DS, the stream of good games should be much more frequent.
>NX launches with Watch_Dogs
>not Watch_Dogs 2
>the cancelled Wii U version of the original
>thinking people bought Wii U for Splatoon
Back to GAF you fucking moron.
>Paper Marios
that series is DOA
>utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook
They better just call it the Nintendo then.
And if they release a second one, call it Nintendo 2.
>one outlier
I love this meme.
WiiU got a watch dogs port. It sold like shit. But ubisoft ported like 3 months later and on same week as smash.
Show me the sales numbers that prove the Wii wasn't a lucky accident for Nintendo and their market share in home consoles isn't declining.
Weird, I remember everyone reporting it being cancelled. That's games """""journalism"""" for you.
>wasn't a lucky accident
>before Wii:
>"We wish to market to a 'blue ocean' of players"
>heavily market wii to casuals
>I-it was a luck accident
lol
We don't actually know if this is the case or not, but I hope it is. Mostly because it means that Gamefreak needs to buckle down and actually make Pokemon look good and not have FPS issues up the fucking ying yang.
Also, other series that were mobile only, finally being on something powerful will be nice. If they still want to stylize things, that's ok, but it's no longer an excuse for poor looking models.
They seem to be so keen on using "NX" so much that it might as well be the final name.
Shit, they didn't change "Wii U" after a whole year of people saying the name was shit. Why would they change "NX"?
The poly count on pokemon models in 3ds games are high as fuck, the models are pretty damn future proof. That's why the game slows to a crawl sometimes.
They need polish the animations and get better textures. Also 3ds resolution don't make anything wonderful.
It was an accident though. What were the software sales for Wii like compared to hardware sales?
Those things were bought for normies to ooh and aah at Wii Sports for two weeks then sit in a closet.
>N-nintendo is a great company guys! Honest!
>They're just pretending to have nothing beyond a few strong IPs and a stubborn refusal to court third party developers!
>Why would they rename Ultra64
>Why would they rename Dolphin
>Why would they rename Revolution
>Why would they rename Project Café
>Wii U didn't get a single worth playing game until over a year after it being out.
>first twelve months of Wii U it had
>New Super Mario Bros. U
>Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge (time exclusive)
>Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
>Zombi U (timed exclusive)
>LEGO City Undercover
>third party games like Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Darksiders II, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Batman: Arkham City + Injustice, Deus Ex HR DX, Splinter Cell Blacklist, and Resident Evil Revelations
>Game & Wario
>Pikmin 3
>The Wonderful 101
>not a single worth playing game
Fuck off.
>couldn't do it before the Wii
>couldn't do it again with the WiiU
>it wasn't a marketing fluke
The issue extends far beyond hardware sales. Nintendo's brand value is declining.
>It was accidentally exactly what they wanted, planned and prepared for
The only accident here is you.
>NX comes out
>real name is finally known
>Nintendo calls it the NES 2
>they're so confident that it will dominate they through everything they have behind it
>it's another mid generation console that comes with a "toy" like ROB
>the toy is a device that hooks into your cell phone that allows you to "game on the go"
>it uses the headphone jack
>phones are phasing out the headphone jack
>Nintendo in shambles
>the gimmick didn't pan out for a third time
>confident they can rework their consoles streaming abilities they make a device for the PC
>no one owns a PC
>Nintendo on suicide watch
>in a last ditch effort they make a streaming service like PS NOW
>this way they hope to prevent piracy by streaming all their games
>Nintendo cannot into online
>corporate takeover by Sammy imminent
>Sonic now owns Nintendo
>Sonic games are good again
>SEGA comes back with a new console
>cycle repeats
>it wasn't a marketing fluke
It wasn't.
>its going to be different
>already august
>still no info on the shit
>releases march
yeah no, fuck Nintendo and NX
>>all they showed at e3 was a zelda game
You mean the game that won E3 for Nintendo, hell the game that also won Gamescom?
GIMICS
I
M
I

S
Yeah, I remember seeing the model for Volcania or whatever the name is. Crazy poly count, probably one of the highest I have ever seen.
But without proper textures and animations, it's just wasted. I hope they can do better with the new hardware, but I don't have my hopes up.
>future proof
Which makes me think they went into making X and Y with the idea that they would eventually be reusing the models for a very long time and just swapping textures and adding new animations. They were probably one of the first to see the NX from it's initial stages of development.
did he died?
>SEGA comes back with a new console
>trying to hide this shitposting as a SEGA fan
>not obviously a nygger
lol
>tfw parents spent $20k+ on IVF to have me
I'll never have to wonder if I was wanted, unlike you pal.
>Nintendo winning anything except the encouragement award
Can't wait until 2018 when I can pick up a NX and all the good games for just under 200 bucks.
>tfw parents spent $20k+ on IVF to have me
>they get a dipshit like you
>not an accident
Wew lad.
>Nintendo games.
>getting cheaper with time.
>parents spent $20k+ on IVF to have me
and here you are, shitposting on Sup Forums. clearly money well spent. i'm sure they don't regret that decision at all.
Niggarell has never bought a game himself.
>super devote
That's a pretty big fucking demographic user. I was at E3 this year. Nintendo had an entire area for them selves (as do sony and microsoft. they always do). Those two always have a bunch of random booths, as well as bigger booths for their big games, like Sea of Thieves. ALL Nintendo had was fucking zelda. And people waited 5 hours in line to try it out (based off what other people told me). They had the biggest line there.
>we'll communicate better this time
HOW ABOUT ANNOUNCING IT BEFORE SONY FUCKS YOU UP WITH THEIR MATRIX MEME CONSOLE
FUCKING DO IT YOU GODDAMN CLUELESS JAPANESE MOTHERFUCKERS.
>what are second hand game sales
Yeah, they still have quite a bit of super devoted fans. I would wager in the range of 3 million, but it keeps shrinking every year and it isn't getting replaced by kids like they want.
If Nintendo can't corner the same market phones are hitting, they will eventually die as their current fanbase grows to old and moves on with their lives. Not everyone can keep playing games forever.
Nintendo games have huge ass attach rate, they don't go to bargain bin for a reason.
Aside other M, but thats another story.
>Second hand Nintendo games
>ever being lower than $10 from sticker price
Nintendo games almost always go up in price without fail
PORTABLE
CONSOLE
>no one owns a pc
???
>w-what are second hand games
>second hand Nintendo games
Did your mother buy a second hand IVF?
Send them another card for encouragement, Sup Forums!
Welcome to a Niggarell thread.
In Japan. PC market there is rather small and not everyone in other countries has a PC worth anything either. Only those devoted to PC gaming have good PCs and those that do likely wouldn't be interested in what Nintendo has to offer.
So who would this be marketed towards?
Half of those were pure garbage. In particular, Lego City, Zombi U, Monster Hunter, Ninja Gaiden, and Game and Wario.
The rest were meh to average quality. Be it Wonderful 101 or New Super Mario Brothers. I'd say they're on par with Infamous and Halo.
It's not that they couldn't, they didn't want to. They purposely made Wii U a red ocean system, and foolishly thought slapping the Wii name on it will get the expanded market to buy it. It blew up in their face, and are now trying to get the market back they tossed away.
>not a single worth playing game
>meh to average quality
Fuck off retard.
>Lego City
>Zombie U
>Monster Hunter
>"pure garbage"
>Wonderful 101
>"meh to average quality"
>Wonderful 101...on par with Infamous and Halo
This is... the power... of NeoGA/v/...
I think he's implying that nobody owns a PC powerful enough to run games on. Which is a joke because Nintendo are just beginning HD development.
If the new Zelda ends up being half of what it's hyped for I'd buy a PC release but I'm not buying a new platform for the five good games it will get over its life span.
>le PlatinumGames is perfect meme
It's called Wonderful 101 because they have to budget 101 frames for each minute of gameplay.
The Wii U is a shitty red ocean system, too. That's kind of a huge point against it.
>LEGO
Every time.
>It's called Wonderful 101 because they have to budget 101 frames for each minute of gameplay.
This is the worst post I've ever seen.
Congratulations.
what is red and blue ocean system.
wat dose this mean
?
I've never heard this term before. What's "red ocean"?
Its made up PR damage control from Nintendo for mentally unhinged fanboys to cling on to
Red Ocean - well defined player base
Blue Ocean - unlimited potential player base
It basically means, "other companies are better at us in doing this particular thing, so we will go find something else to do."
>Its made up PR damage control
>Wii
>damage control
>PS tries to copy with Move
>Xbox tries to copy with Kinect
>made up
lol
>other companies are better at us in doing this particular thing
Selling cheap DVD players? Yeah, the other companies are better at doing that than Nintendo.
Tell me right now why I should like any of those games if i don't like quick time events, or unfunny meme humor, or developers like Platinum and Ubisoft.
They're far from perfect, can't you at least agree to that?
Is this ACfag? It's ACfag isn't it.
Are you seriously defending the framerate of that fucking game?
It's a goddamn Powerpoint presentation whenever anything interesting is going on on the screen.
Thought you were joking until Why would you define your target market as "people who are already NeoGAF posters" and not aim for as many customers as possible?
And why do people defend Nintendo's retarded policies like admitting they've been shit since 2008 will undo the fun they had on the NES/SNES/N64 as kids?
>They purposely made Wii U a red ocean system
Did a shitty job at it.
>get the market back they tossed away
What? The market tossed them away. They never thought of the Wii as anything more then a toy to play sometimes. Nintendo failed in their Blue Ocean strat and only got them to buy hardware and couldn't keep them.
I hate using analogies, but since we are talking about oceans. It's like Nintendo went fishing, got a huge haul and when they turned their back, all the fish got out of the bag. So they go back to their house and empty out the bag and then blame the fish and not themselves for being stupid.
Meanwhile, the ocean they use to fish out of kept jumping into their bag constantly. I guess that's why they blame the fish, because the other group gave them a big head.
>It's a goddamn Powerpoint presentation
I understand this is bait but you got me.
(You)
They should have called the Wii U the Super Wii.
>Nintendo failed in their Blue Ocean strat
>Wii
>fail
What.
>I hate using analogies
You're bad at using them that's why.
I've yet to see this, Sony and MS tend to do make shitty decisions just as bad and sometimes worst than nintendo.
Nintendo has gotten themselves stuck with their strategy. They try to differentiate in a market where all developers do is cater to the other platforms, which use a totally different strategy.
Nobody bites on the gimmicks. It hasn't happened for a decade now.
>Are you seriously defending the framerate of that fucking game?
>It's a goddamn Powerpoint presentation whenever anything interesting is going on on the screen
You have not played W101.
What are the chances of it actually having a Tegra X2?
I'm scared it's going to have some disgustingly underpowered PowerPC thing.
>Wii U version of BotW is actually the HD version
>mfw
OK let's brainstorm names
Super X (pronounced, cross)
Nintendo Go
New Super Nintendo
