I just bought BF4 for 5 bucks and it's surprisingly not horrible, it looks pretty good, runs fine, and the only bugs it has aren't related to the engine itself.

Assuming any of us know the actual differences between Frostbite and Source without just taking our experiences with the games that use them..

My favorite three RPGs of all time were on Source.

I hope you aren't talking about Vampire because source was the WORST thing about that game.

the only real differences between the two are core engine mechanics (how they load assets, how they build environments and viability, how they process scripts) and how they render.

Hypothetically, any engine can be beefed up enough to render any state of the art quality.

For instance, Pixar has been using the same rendering engine since the beginning (Renderman). The same engine that rendered the 80's cgi for fucking tin toy is the same engine they used for wall-e and big hero 6 and inside out.

when you look at an engine like that, you begin to realize that engines aren't really all that separate. With enough expertise and access to source code, you can turn any engine into a completely different engine, then re name it and it'll be totally different.
