The changes they did to shield stun a while back was a step in the right direction, but I would have gone further.

You escape by DIing towards a platform. Hence why playing on a stage with no platform is so polarizing.

More games than SF exist.

In many fighting games, throws lead into combos as well.

Just make it so that teching a throw requires a degree of prediction, like in older VS games and Skullgirls
