>Bullet time regen

>Max moves at sanic speed during bullet time
>Insanely fast recovery for shootdodging

>Rehashes that stupid funhouse level

Max Payne 2 is the worst, most casual Max Payne game. Anyone who disagrees is blinded by nostalgia.

I liked 1 a bit more than 2, but that's likely just the nostalgia talking. They're both better than 3 though, and all 3 are still fantastic.

Goddamn, it's beautiful.

MP4 WHEN?

10 years
First they have to make RD3 and GTA VI since those are bigger money sinks.
Please no fucking GTAO2 though Rockstar, it ruined GTA V and prevented a good expansion.

MP1 > MP3 > MP2

1 was very fucking satisfying and challenging, also that writing is the best.
2 was way too easy, but still a solid game.
3 was a tech demo with kick ass music and amazing shooting.

Pic unrelated, i just find it funny.

AAAAAHHHHH
I HAVEN'T PLAYED MAX PAYNE 3 YET
HOW IS IT
SHOULD I PLAY IT

Yes, gameplay wise it is a flawless TPS. Story is meh and writing isnt that good, hence why many arent fond of it.

Mona makes it 10/10

youtu.be/0GvUrZEAN9Y

Three was good. The cutscenes were a little much, but I enjoyed playing as old, world-weary max killing gorillions of brazillions.

Less cutscenes and more shootouts and more Desert Eagle would've been nice.

>2:09

I want more TPS with bullettime and acrobatic shit, why did they stop making them?

MP1>MP3>MP2

That was a damn good John Woo game.

I think 3 has the best gameplay. The rest have the better story.

Stranglehold was great

Cus Max Payne 3 was shit.

Pretty much.

Btw my Rockstar Social Club account or whatever it's called was hacked like a year ago, never bothered to get it back. Is my copy of MP3 is unplayable now or is it just a matter of making a new account?

Didn't quantum break have some bullet time stuff?

yes.
MP1 gameplay is more challenging, but also more exploitable than MP2.
Story is way better in MP2, though game overall is a lot shorter than MP1.

MP3 is "we actually wanted to make a movie" crap, with cringy writing and uninspired 'cinematics'

MP1 is on sale on the ps store at the minute. like £8 if you're a britbong

Unskippable cinematics every ten minutes really fucking marred the game.

Don't know, looks like a shitty cover shooter movie to me from all the videos you can find of it.

Because shitty casual games like uncharted and gow are the new norm in tps.

The PS2 version is fucking terrible, don't know why you'd wanna play that for 8 goddamn pounds nonetheless.

best max payne clone

It did, but it was basically a cover shooter so it didn't really matter.

It wasn't like Max Payne or Stranglehold where you could slow down time and dive around killing everyone. Slowing down time in QB was basically to get in some cheap shots or regen your health

Max Payne 3 was a really good game on it's own. I still prefer the Sam Lake-ness of the first two though.

Max Payne 3 gets a lot of hate, but the gameplay was rock solid. If only they stuck with the film noir setting of the first 2 games.

don't forget totally-not-cutscenes where your actions are restricted to just folowing NPC and watching scriptes scenes

The John Woo movies are what inspired Max Payne's gameplay

Sometimes when my nephew comes over he asks to play MP3. Problem is, he just spams shootdodging ALL the time. The moment he gets up he jumps again, repeat until everybody is dead. It drives me insane to see him play like that but I try not to say anything mean.

GTA online should be a stand alone title.

Why didn't they make a single player endless horde mode for Mp3? I'm still salty about this.

MP 2 > MP 1

There is no MP 3. Hardest difficulty ending of MP 2 is canon too.

He's probably playing on a low difficulty. Which isn't a problem when your a child but if you want to see the choreographed gameplay then you got to mix bullet time with shootdodge to get that perfect ballet of bullets.

pretty much

What makes you so turned off by the master piece that is MP3. Sure the cinematics are a rough and unskippable. But the game play is solid and over well-balanced where the killing feels very gratifying then any other single player experience.

You know Rockstar is going to reboot the game at some point don't you?

>you will never fuck Mona as you both monologue in your heads

Why live?

>your

fuck gta 6, give me a new bully

Story

Gameplay

Your others opinions about this matters are absolutely wrong.

> Mhu KungFu mod in Mp1

No shit sherlock, even Nu Male's Sky is barely playeable with the aircraft sims mods.

2 > 1 > 3
Mainly because 2 has more immediate bullets; in the first game you press fire and half a second later it hits something. Story-wise I had to play 2 a couple of times to fully understand the flashback stuff, but once I got that 2 was instantly my favourite of the series.
3 had too much of the "cinematic" shit for my tastes, the production of it was still Max Payne but felt like playing through Man on Fire, and the gunplay wasn't as fluid as in 2

>This series was perfect
>Like all perfect series, it got completely rekt and shitted upon with pointless sequel released more than a decade later
>Millenials who only know the newest installment consider it some sort of masterpiece
>The game is not even meh
>It completely wrecks perfect ending of previous part
Why? MP 2 had perfect ending and I felt like fucking achieving something after beating the game time and again to unlock the canon ending.

It must be hard going through life with such shit opinions.

It wasn't even really that. MP3 just went from 50's noir pulp to 80's neon pulp and it would have worked fine if not for the fact that it lacked Sam Lake. Which is to say, the writing wasn't over-the-top in a way that makes it wonderful rather than cringeworthy.

Everyone who thinks 3 is the best, or even better than 1 or 2, should consult this user's reply.

Also, I like the think of the Mona dying ending to be canon because seemed more accepting of his family's death.

You sick bastard, are you taking some sort of pleasure from tormenting me?

Also, MP3 was shit overally. Average gameplay, non-existing plot, completely missing all the cues and points of original two games and most imprtantly, pretending that not only first two games didn't happen, but actively undermining their conclusion...

Realy,MP3 has the same problem as all reboots/sequels released after a decade or so gap. Namely - it could be a good spiritual successor game, but instead is made as a fresh start and "new take on franchise", wrecking the whole thing just to plaster some established name on box cover.
Given how fucking huge marketing is behind such title, they could all just promote ocmpletely new shit instead of preying on nostalgia.

INTO THE NIGHT

>game play is solid and over well-balanced where the killing feels very gratifying

>2 weapons limit (no, double pistols don't count as 2 separate weapons)
>weapons getting replaced beacuse fuck you
>sniper hitscan pistols + bullet time = free headshots
>QTEs and turret sections because fuck you
>Max turned into grumpy old fart who complains 24/7
>sluggish, imprecisse movements when not using cover or bullet time easymodo
probably more, been some time since played

>play MP2 as a kid
>stupid romance, let me shoot people
>play MP2 as an adult
>appreciate their doomed but passionate relationship

1>3>2

JUST

Then I highly recommend MP2 binge, to go from fresh start up until unlocking the Mona lives ending. Meaning beating the game in one sitting 4 times in a row.
Or just do this in short time span.

You will then understand her survival being a perfect, great touch in the ending, where Max not only gets over his past (but is still locked in sour and cynical outlook), but also gains someone who perfectly understands him and his experiences.
They were made for each other. And the ending where she lives is a perfect ending for their story.

I've managed to make lecture about noir film structure based solely on Bogey's film and then confronting it all with MP as modern take on noir. Believe me, shit adds up.

>"I had a dream of my wife. She was dead, but it was alright"

>MP3 has no mod support

Without even going into detail of anything else, that right there fucking murders it in my eyes.
>all those silly MP2 mods

Good times.

This

Thousand of times this. Only that I never had the part where their relationship was boring, as I've played it for the first time when I was 17

3=1mp1 would be the best if it weren't for the nightmare sequences + 0ms reaction time on most enemies, which just encouraged quick save/load spam

...

Did anybody else start listening to Poets of the Fall because of MP2? (or really any Remedy game since)

Hit me like a fucking truck back then.

This line is repeated in both endings. And it completely changes sense, depending on if Mona dies or lives.

Sort like that great thriller, The Disappearance of Alice Creed. You know the title from the start, right? But it's the moment when the title screen finally shows up and completely changes the meaning of it.

Yep

I remember beating game all way to Puchinello manor (with exception of bossfights, because million HP bosses) using only kung-fu

It's good to see that no matter how shitty this board gets, Sup Forums will always love our boy Max

Came here to say this

How can u hate a good game?

There's a bit of Max in all of us.

I said this in another thread yesterday, but the only character I can remember that actually ACKNOWLEDGES all the people he has killed and reacts realistically is Max Payne.

Kind of crazy when you realize how much murder he has done in his three games.

That's not out of reach for this board. But I think that, in general, fewer people get upset at a good game if it's old.

Except Mona in MP3

Barely even a mention that just raises more questions.

I didn't like Mona in 2. I didn't understand why Max would fall in love with her at all other than pure desperation.

Sup Forums is retarded desu. imo it's probably still
2>1>=3
but to try to deny 3 any merits is ridiculous. there's a lot of stupid shit in it, but there are also a few moments of brilliance and the gameplay is 10/10

Did you even fucking play it? I've played it on hard and very rarely I had to use cover, just time dodged everywhere all the time

>he played on Easy

Found your problem, boo boo

>Story is way better in MP2
I can't agree on that one

>New team
>Wanted to just reboot, but had to make 3rd instalment
>Didn't care much about "some silly romance"
>Didn't care much about anything than cynical guy sprouting one-liners
>Didn't care much about anything than slow-mo gunfights
Here, answer to all your questions.

>time dodged everywhere all the time
The first time I completed 2 I realised I hadn't used bullet time at all, just shoot-dodged my way through

>Mainly because 2 has more immediate bullets
Nnnnoooooooo
That sucks about it, it's great in the first because you can actually move around and dodge bullets, at the same time you have to actually think about your enemies' movements while firing, especially in bullet time.

>cringeworthy
That was the point was it not? A guy who didn't care anymore, tried to hard and failed nonetheless. But in the end he kept pushing through and found his place.

MP1 kinda gets off the rails near the end with the ilerminaty shit. It's no wonder no one really acknowledges those plot elements

"Continuity requires effort, let's just pack him off to Brazil and turn him into an alcoholic after he's staunchly refused to drink through two previous games"

>other than pure desperation
That's part of the point, but think about all the shit they went through together and all the shared wounds and scars (mental) they have. And then about him being a guy who didn't fuck anyone for few years. And then his obvious obsession about her.
And so on and forth. it wasn't just "action movie plot hook", where the main lead gets laid in the end. It was something build up from previous game and stretched to logical conclusion. Max has serious Madonna-whore complex, Mona scratches his itch just right.

Imagine how hard it is for me to not just call you retarded faggot for not liking Mona.

>But I think that, in general, fewer people get upset at a good game if it's old.

Nah, look at all the shit the first Deus Ex gets, and it's even older.

>people can't hit rock bottom

Not cringeworthy in that way. Max in 1 and 2 is an over-the-top noir character who narrates everything that happens to him and speaks almost entirely in metaphors and similies. Max in 3 is the same way, only with none of the minute sense of style that made it work.

>after he's staunchly refused to drink through two previous games
>apartment in 2 literally covered in empty bottles.

But that was what was so fun about it. It was campy and corny and I fucking loved it. I felt 2 tried to be way too serious and just ended up being pretty boring, along with forced WOW HOW DEPRESSING stuff like Vlad.

I like all of them, but 1 will always be my favourite.

He was on the rock bottom and arranged his live out there. And then emerged

Seriously, were you even around when MP was a thing? I doubt it. Because there is no other explaination for even trying to defend shit-tier "plot" and utter character derail that happens in MP3

Gameplay wise
MP3>MP2>MP1
Story wise
MP1>MP2>MP3

>Without Mona's help, I'd be a dead man. Suddenly, for the first time in I don't know how long, I realized, I didn't wish to be dead.

>being so mentally ill that even basic reading is out of your reach

Oh, come off it. He didn't drink a drop through the worst days of his life, just kept chomping on painkillers so he could get to his next fight and his next chance to die. Rockstar just chose the laziest possible way to make him seem broken and pathetic.

I dunno. I didn't really feel it, especially given her relative lack of importance in the first game. I think in general I like to view 1 as its own self-contained thing with Max accepting everything at the end, in my eyes they took the depressing side too far in the sequels.

>00:04
It's treason then
