Have you ever played a game with a story so fucking bad it makes you angry?

Have you ever played a game with a story so fucking bad it makes you angry?

I have. It's called Xenosaga Episode II. Tell me about some more games that have extremely bad stories.

The Last of Us.

Story was pretty much the only thing salvageable from Xenosaga Episode II
>t. Xenosaga fan
Also, this:

>Have you ever played a game with a story so fucking bad it makes you angry?
Fire Emblem: Fates
Especially Conquest.

Final Fantasy XIII

And then XIII-2 is even worse

Came in here to say this, but the whole Fates story in general is just bad.

>Dude magic crystal
>Where? How?
>Dunno lol, but it says ur dad's evil
>Whoops it broke!!!

>Can't talk about fight club or you'll fucking die
>Also we can't find any more magic rocks

>Gunter was working for the bad guys the entire time

I've never felt insulted by a video game plot before Fates.

You haven't played enough Jp games.
Op's example is also insulting, as is a LOT of the shit that's like Neptunia. They're very condescending.

>shit that's like Neptunia
Neptunia doesn't even pretend to take itself seriously.

I have, too.
It was called Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright.

There's a difference between shit like Neptunia where it's meant to be stupid goofy comedy and Fates which is meant to be a serious story.

Pic related.

This.
I was so sure that good gameplay was all I needed from Fire Emblem but I guess not.

xenosaga ep2 story wasn't that bad imo familia.
it's that ass gameplay that was trash. wtf were they thinking with that battle system?

Arkham Knight
MGS4

Only bad thing about Xenosaga 2 was the battle system.
The plot focused on Jr., Albedo, Nigredo, and MOMO, who are important characters of the Saga trilogy.
It might not be the best of the three but it was necessary for the whole.

>boot up Episode II
>see what they did to the character designs
>see MOMO
>turn off the console
And that was my Episode II experience.

Starbound. Call me an indiefag, but holy fuck. It had such a deep lore in the earlier versions, even with the lack of an 'actual story'. The story we have is a bullshit "YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE THAT MUST SAVE THE GALAXY" plot that ends on a cliche and predictable ending. Plus they dumbed down and white-washed many parts of the lore.

>Xenosaga Episode II

You can blame Namco for that. They thought they would save a shitload of money by removing the director/creator of Xenosaga (also creator of Xenogears) and hiring some cheaper faggot to do it. Then make all the characters have small eyes to "cater to the west" despite the first game already sold enough to make it to the greatest hits list on ps2.

Namco's own greed destroyed the series.

Any Tales game

SKyward Sword pisses me off on a strange fundamental level. I think it's how trivial the game's events end up being to the point where even the game where you just set the alarm clock for a magical whale is more important.

It's not like any Zelda games are even deep but it takes a special kind of bad to be malignant in a series of bad plots.

This made me legitimately upset and quit the game

This made me love it even more because Kojima is a meme of himself

You also forgot the meaningless sidequests, the worse designs, (which is saying something since Tanaka's design does not work in 3D), and the poor narrative. I could mention the bad voice acting, though I think all 3 had poor dubs.Though you can make an argument that Xenosaga never have a great story to begin with.

ffX-2 shame because the game play is really good but the characters and story are trash

Assassin's creed has probably the worst story, not even in gaming, but in general. How can you fuck up a story with so much potential by adding supernatural bullshit(such as gods who want to recreate the world for some reason?).Assassin's creed 2 story was ok,but the ending reminded me that they simply can't write a story.
After brotherhood,everything,including gameplay,went to shit.

That would imply Xenosaga's story isn't fucking garbage. The developments made in 2 wore my patience down to the melting point.

WoW after WOTLK

Bravely Default

This one is the worst and has the worst main villain with a generic evil clergyman. Good thing I enjoyed 3 a lot but they still rushed it a bit.

Rogue Galaxy

Star Ocean 4, aka the first game I've ever gone up and thrown into my local libraries donation bin.

So many things went wrong with that game, I bet Star Ocean 5 isn't any better.

FF 13-2. I just couldn't fucking deal with it anymore, the whole thing felt soulless and pointless.

And just like 13, I liked 13-2 in most other respects and felt it was a solid improvement mechanically. I always thought it was enough for an RPG to have fun mechanics (I love Tales games after all), but I guess even I have my limits.

People say Lightning Returns is even better gameplay-wise, but if the story is as stupid as 13-2's I just can't do it.

Tales of Graces F

I mean, I know Tales series has bad to so-so story all around but this one is just plain feces.

Legendia is worse.

guess the bounty hunters are asleep

Fuck, I forgot everything about that game. I was stuck at the part when you have to fight the little sister.

I guess I should play it again someday just to compare which turd is smelliest.

>Other M

please, you assholes bitch but you got off easy compared to The 3rd Birthday

i thought the clothes ripping apart was hot

13-2 is the pinnacle of Toriyama's waifu trilogy. Think long and hard about that.

Never played it, but the whole "thumbs down" thing always gave me a giggle.

A story so bad it made every single JRPG I've played look amazing.
The story is... you chase around a little clone girl you've known for a day through a few cities and rescue her from being kidnapped like 4 times, and one of those times you accidentally rescue her sister instead of her, and not realize it until the antagonist tells you this.
I think I'm the only one who played this game.

Yeah, but it's followed by Xenosaga III, which is fan-fucking-tastic so get over it BB-cakes. Honestly, if you play XSI-III all in a row, XSII just feels like an a very-extended side quest story that focuses on one of the main characters that isn't Shion.

Oh no, I'd take XIII-2 for Caius alone.

Nothing in Graces F can compare to

>SENEL I'M SO MAD YOU DON'T WANT TO FUCK ME I'M GOING TO END THE WORLD TO SPITE YOU.
>I love you Shirley (platonic).
>Oh, teehee, nevermind! I sure am glad you'll all forgive me for taking this action entirely of my own free will with no mind control involved at all and no remorse on my part!

Fuck. Shirley.

TRULY WE ARE THE PARASITE EVE

All I know about this game is that bitch needs to get FUCCED.

I did the same thing. Never bothered with 13-3. I'm not giving them a third fucking chance.
I actually got the platinum in 13-2 accidentally because I wanted to see the secret ending and I genuinely enjoyed playing the psuedo-pokemon system with the monsters but the story was so fucking stupid.
I think the only part I enjoyed was Noel and the 700af piece of the game, seeing post-apocalyptic worlds and places where humans have all died out is really interesting to me.
Unfortunately the whole game just did not give a shit about having a good plot to tie it's interesting ideas together.

I don't think I've been mad at a video game story before, but I did drop FF8 becuase I thought the story was getting increasingly dumb.

>B B B BUT A LATER ONE IS GOOOD! IT'S OKAY! THEY FIXED IT!

Fuck off, you shiteating fanboy. 3 doesn't excuse 1 and 2 being fucking dreadful. You're better off not even playing them.

Have you played SO4? It's worse. I don't care how simple and dumb 5 is, it's nowhere near as bad as 4.

This. As a long time Xeno fan, this game, especially its story, was the biggest let down I have ever had in gaming. I know Takahashi said this game wouldn't focus on story but FFS did they have to go and make the game THAT bad?

A damn shame considering how many nice assets the game had, and considering how capable Monolithsoft are. There could have been a phenomenal game there, another gem. The worst part is is that I'm pretty sure they are happy with how it turned out and got received. I shudder to think about what sort of abomination the next Xeno game could be...

Danganronpa

The ending completely ruined everything for me, it was enjoyable till pic related happened

>All I know about this game is that bitch needs to get FUCCED.
She does, by a little boy.

>As a long time Xeno fan
You should be used to this.

Gears isn't even finished and is only half-competent despite its lofty ideals, Saga is even worse than X, and Blade is pretty stock storytelling.

>Have you played SO4? It's worse.
I have and I loved it but my disc was scratched so after I got off planet styx and the 4th dimension place everything froze up and I can't play anymore. Haven't found another disc so I didn't finish it, but I actually thought the twist was cool.

You should catch up. It's getting dumber by the minute.

>I have and I loved it
You really aren't in any position to be criticizing writing.

>You're better off not even playing them
>stop liking what I don't like

I pity gamers like you, and any other JRPG fan who doesn't play this trilogy. It's not without its flaws, but it is a fantastic trilogy.

>You should be used to this

Nah, all the other Xeno games are fantastic (aside from XSII). Every part of XCX, aside from the graphics, is utter shit.

Nah, you are full of shit.
X is garbage.

That's cool but at least I don't parrot shit said on the internet without coming up with my own opinion.
What were you expecting 4D space to be like?

I have heard a lot of people shitting on that game, but is it better or worse than SO4?
People shit a lot in SO3 too but that one I think was great.

Do you play as that little boy?
Even if you don't are there at least Doujins of it?

>Giving an opinion is the same thing as telling people they can't like different things.

I'd ask how the fuck you jumped to that conclusion, but you seem a little dense to begin with since you jumped from "people should not play these two games I just mentioned" to "nobody should play ANY Xenosaga game."

I think 3 is definitely worth playing.
I also think I and II shouldn't even be fucking touched by a rational human being, as they are long, drawn out exercises in frustration and terrible storytelling practices. I is bloated with stupid bullshit and refuses to actually start the story while II is just cumbersome to play.

No, he's some prodigy kid who's relevant to the plot for about 5 minutes and implied to be her mysterious mentor she's always fawning over or something.

The hate for Graces plot is a big meme.
In a series full of shitty plots, Graces was average level at most.

And don't talk to me about Graces plot if you never played Innocence or that furry one for DS that no one ever mentions.

>these games series is good except for these two

I didn't know having standards above "HELP ME FIND THE COOKIE THIEF, 'KAY?" means I'm just parroting popular opinion. I thought it just meant I'm not a contrarian.

XIII's plot wasn't awful. If there was a gradual character growth it could have been amazing, because combat was pretty damn good.

Shame it doesn't do that much good on character development up to where I played. Ot was dull though, not bad.

3 isn't that good desu.

>up to where I played
Fuck off.

Fuck, I was thinking about SO3. My apologies.
The plot in SO4 was pretty lacking, yeah, and could have been explained better than "ancient evil wants to destroy everything" but I think it makes a lot more sense to believe it's a precursor to 3 and the first signs of the 4D beings deciding to erase shit.
Everyone seems to write off SO3 as bad because they didn't like the twist.

>As a long time Xeno fan, this game, especially its story, was the biggest let down I have ever had in gaming

That entire line, word by word, I felt the same man.
I remember being hyped for the game because it had mechas and the plot was supposed to reference Xenogears in many levels, but all I got was disappointment.
In all my 25 years of life, that was the first time a game actually gave me this feeling of anger and sadness. And months later I still feel it.

When did throwing X under the bus become the hip new meme? The story is awful, but the sidequests are great, the world is wonderfully designed, the combat systems are nice, and the OST is catchy. It's flawed, but far less so than most Xeno games.

You're idiot. You misunderstood too many things for me to bother addressing. I don't know what else to tell you user.

Actually you are too. Lrn 2 Engrish.

XCX is the only bad Xeno game. XSII is good, but it's not fantastic like the rest.

Sup Forums routinely reccomends lightning returns, and after a few hours with it, I don't fucking see why unless it's a "take swimming skill" ruse.

Like or hate the first two games, LR is complete garbage, gameplay included.

No, but it's worth playing. Failing that, it's at least worth trying. I can't say that for I and II.

Shit taste detected. Granted I have only finished Vesperia and Xillia but both had great characters and well-explored themes.

>this shitty opinion

I couldn't care about AC when I played III but Revelations was fun, ESPECIALLY the multplayer. Yo, that shit was god-tier.

C'mon man, I'm gonna start that game soonish =(

I liked Graces' story. It has some shit-tier dialogue writing (especially for Asbel), but Sophie's arc as a character made it all worth it for me, especially that L&L ending.

Says who? Toriyama? He can fuck off.

I played like 80% of the game, YOU fuck off.

I honestly think one of XCX's greatest strengths was in its side story missions.

In my opinion the game's story should've been more episodic, have the MC be his own entity separate of the adventures Elma and Lin were on.
Then it should've also let you have more freedom with your squad by doing quests to recruit characters.
These quests would've been focused on worldbuilding and individual character arcs by showing how everyone was coping with the fact that the earth was gone, all thier loved ones were dead, and they were stranded on another planet.
The main story missions would occur as in game events you could choose to participate in, although some would be mandatory like the battle at NLA.
Then near the final act your MC's group would start getting involved in the main events after hearing about how Elma was keeping secrets and acting suspicious.
Finally everyone's story would connect at the end with them finding the lifehold killing the vita and Elma revealing everything.
Keep the cliffhangers though.

Also X had almost no religious themes and barely felt like a xeno game.

You didn't finish it and you're arguing about the plot. Kill yourself.

>"N-no! You just don't understand!"
Saga fans are always like this. I don't get it.

Like god damn, how strong is your Stockholm Syndrome that you're seriously going to call "Nothing Happens: Have Fun With A Shit Battle System For Dozens of Hours" a good game?

Have you been living under a rock or are you just in denial? Xenoblade X is a shit game and it has been a fact everyone been stating since it released on Japan. No one liked it.
No one who actually knows what a good jrpg is likes it.
>but the sidequests are great, the world is wonderfully designed, the combat systems are nice, and the OST is catchy
No, fuck you. I gave this game many chances, I completed sidequests, I explored the entire world map, spent over 150 hours playing the game.
It's REALLY BAD. And fuck sake I usually don't shit on games like this.

The first one was the worst desu. Once you learned not to expect anything well written, it's not that bad.

By the point I played if the plot suddenly became absolute shit it was because it was only the ending that was shit.

FFXIII was dull, but it wasn't stupid. Maybe it's ending was shit, I wouldn't know.

>When did throwing X under the bus become the hip new meme?
I haven't liked this game since day one. Sorry a difference of opinion is considered a "meme" to you. Jesus Gen Zs are obnoxious.

>The story is awful
Understatement.

>but the sidequests are great
Oh lord no. "Fetch X amount of Y." "Kill X amount of Y." ... .... and that's fucking it.

>the world is wonderfully designed
Correct. It's very pretty.

>the combat systems are nice
It's a great deal worse than it's predecessor, and once skells come into play, what little enjoyment could be had from battle just takes a complete nose dive.

>and the OST is catchy
XCX is literally the ONLY game I have ever played on mute because the OST was THAT bad.

>It's flawed, but far less so than most Xeno games
The comment could be stated by only one of two people, A) people who haven't played the other Xeno games, or B) someone with severe damage to their prefrontal cortex.

And lest not forget how obnoxiously bad the characters are, and the UI. It was grating experience from start to finish.

I duno. I've shit posted enough for one night.

MAKE WAY, ASSHOLES
I'M ABOUT TO POST THE BEST THING TO COME OUT OF XENOSAGA II
youtube.com/watch?v=1akzKqjQ1f8

>XSII is good, but it's not fantastic like the rest.

Your opinion is just flat out wrong.

Well I guess that means we just don't agree, user. Gee whillikers, it's almost like different people have different priorities when it comes to game design.

It's one of the best open world games I've ever played, and I generally abhor the open world meme. I don't know what to tell you.

>Oh lord no. "Fetch X amount of Y." "Kill X amount of Y." ... .... and that's fucking it.

Did you actually play the game you're critiquing?

i just noticed the yggralith and the telethia in the pic, i really hope some kind of interaction between them was cut

TBF, the last part of the game followed by the ending, was a bunch of complete horseshit, even by western CRPG standards, much less JRPG ones.

Things were getting flakey by the time you went down to Pulse, but by the time you went back to Cocoon, the story was just in full retard mode.

I'm sorry user, but you're wrong.

youtu.be/dmDFExy126U

That moment where Jin and Mar draw swords while this plays is the single best moment of the game. And it's immediately ruined by them shooting DBZ energy balls.

>Turn away
>Hearts show up over the party members

Are you saying I can get brownie points with some of my party members for watching a couple xenos get murdered?

Oh, I forgot to mention.

Bioshock Infinite was so dull. I only stuck with it because it had recieved a ton of praise. When something actually hapenned the game ended.

Imagine my surprise when the game turned out to be shit.

Holy shit this sounds pretty fucking bad.

Yes.
The game has dark humor like this several times.

>Thinks design means "it looks nice" and isn't about how extremely well crafted it is, with actual thought put into where you're going, how you will traverse it, etc.

People hated the twist but overall it's a pretty fun game so many people still like it despite of the twist.
