You first
Man, I love this game. It's fun, runs well and isn't No Man's Sky.
Evochron Legacy
Fuck, what other space sims have a proper flight model? Elite Dangerous just feels like fat planes in a black sky by comparison
Well there it is, Rebel Galaxy. Also Star Wolves was pretty good if I remember correctly.
Rebel Galaxy is pretty much Freelancer LITE, so try that.
Spore
...
By autism what do you mean exactly?
Do you mean it has a steep learning curve? Do you mean it requires critical thinking and risk management? Do you mean that it requires the player do some math to excel?
I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for.
>require autism
Quit with this fucking shit already.
The best example of Autism I've got is what you're doing here in this post.
Not be an X game i.e.
rebel galaxy is terrible though
it is incredibly bland and repetitive, not to mention that it offers very little depth.
the game markets itself as a straight forward space shooter, and that's exactly what it is. it does nothing else.
all you can do is fly around and shoot stuff.
you can't have your own badass fleet, you can't have massive fucking space ships that kill things by winking at them, you can't make your own outposts, you can't start your own empire.
it is incredibly basic and gets boring incredibly fast
Less bitching, more space game discussion!
>implying you need all that extra management for a good space sim
Not every space game has to be X, and RG has more than enough problems with "space shooting", it doesn't do even that right.
OST is great though.
no. because freelancer's most active remaining community is the discovery mod server. which has retarded autist fuckhead mods that won't even allow you to roll not-poor characters, all the restarts are broke as fuck spaceflea retarded options.
NONE of the trading restarts even let you start off with an actual trading vessel, same as the navies wtc don't give you a faction appropriate fighter light or otherwise. because they're lazy assholes.
nor will they run the server to let you fast gain the massive amounts of dosh you need to remake your characters.
>that they wipe every other patch because they can't be fucked doing backwards compatability.
>so they just server wipe everyone's characters again and again and again.
"don't you autistically love grinding scrap mining for 5000 IRL hours everytime we server wipe to rebuild one of your characters, user?"
>Discovery
>community
Nigger, what? Freelancer is perfectly fine in single player, especially since OP mentioned RG, which is a single player game too.
RG doesn't even do space right. If I wanted to play a game about piracy and boats, I'd play Black Flag. The lack of 3D movement really killed the enjoyment factor for me.
the disco MOD itself is fuckawesome and adds all the shit the original devs wanted to do but ran out of time
What are some space games which put you in a cockpit, but are exciting?
I like the idea of being in a spaceship and fighting stuff, but I would much rather take a linear or semi-linear campaign than playing space trucker on a boring proceduraly generated galaxy like every big name space sim is doing right now
Freespace 2
None. All space games are autistic.
...
Freelancer is pretty straightforward, though you can go full autism
also Freespace 2
I was looking through the weekly bargain bin and saw that Starpoint Gemini 2 game is on weekly sale, was that worth a buy?
I also might be in the mood for some Privateer knockoff type game with a SP campaign that devolves into space trucking after you finish. not sure, just sort of bored and looking for a genre change of pace.
Give me a good space autism sim where I can build empires or other fun shit but have cockpit view and walk around my ship/space station
X3 is the thing.
I think there are cockpit mods. Dunno about the walking though
youtube.com
thoughts?
There isn't one.
I've been looking and asking forever, and every single space game where you pilot a ship is either riddled with autistic mechanics or fucking terrible.
i bought star citizen and have to play at 800x600 with ton of stuttering under 30fps. occasionally it will stay at like 40 for a few minutes, longer if im in arena commander. what i played seems fun. do i hold onto the account until i eventually get an upgrade, or do i sell it to a friend? i never played a space sim before and im sure i had other options, but that gamescom demo of star citizen really turned me on
Oh shit that's right, OP here, I remembered about Star Trek Bridge Commander. I used to play a lot of that back in school. I can't give you an objective opinion, but I remember having a lot of fun with it.
I like this game but still play it autistically. Instead of fighting I just look at the map and see what trade routes work out best for me. If making a profit isn't fun I don't know what is.
>Evochron
good game.
this. never got the chance to actually play Rebel Galaxy yet but it looks fairly arcady so I'll say Freelancer.
Fuck you, X is a great game series.
?
I mean, it bills itself as a roguelike masquerading as an arcadey space shooter, so maybe that's something.
That sounds like Galak - Z, which I thought was great. Doesn't really count as a space sim though.
No more "autism" than Mechwarrior or even Custom Robo, at least. You outfit your ship and your squad's ships (if applicable) with weapons and then you go fly around and blow up shit. Descent: Freespace was my jam as a kid.
Strike Suit Zero's got a similar feel, but it's got some lame super mode where you turn into a stiff stick figure robot and instantly murder everything by sticking the controller in your mouth and chewing on it like a dog.
Is that ever actually getting released? I had my eye on it since I saw it on some xbox one indie game preview thing
>Strike Suit Zero's got a similar feel, but it's got some lame super mode where you turn into a stiff stick figure robot and instantly murder everything by sticking the controller in your mouth and chewing on it like a dog.
Thanks for that, user.
Pretty apt description, too. Not a bad game.
X Rebirth.
X3/TP/AP are technically better games, but I find X Rebirth far more enjoyable as it places a far greater emphasis on rounding out and creating a more immersive space experience.
The UI like all X games is still shit, and fleet management will take you a bit to get use to (google is your friend) but once you get the hang of things it's exactly the sort of thing your after, and the fact that you can play the entire game with a 360 pad is fucking great.
It's my go to kick back and relax on the couch game.....which sounds ridiculous given it's an X game.
Rebel galaxy is very far off from being a space sim, just fyi.
you seem to considerably misunderstand the word "simulation", or maybe you think "sim" stands for something else?
>It's fun, runs well and isn't No Man's Sky.
These are some pretty easily fulfilled criteria.
>shivans want to know what happened to their recon vessel...
Your post is more guilty of what you are trying to say than what you are directing it at.
Escape Velocity: Nova my nigga
just buy Squadron 42 when it comes out, it's exactly that
He's not wrong though.
Freelancer does a good job and you don't even need more keys than on a controller.
Now compare it to Star Citizien or Elite Dangerous. You need your whole fucking keyboard to play efficiently.
How's that atuist? Have you ever seen a real cockpit?
Get over yourself. It's a Space trading sim
>Now compare it to Star Citizien or Elite Dangerous. You need your whole fucking keyboard to play efficiently.
You clearly haven't played either then.
I play Elite with an Xbox Controller and have everything but 2 buttons mapped to it, and Star Citizen is even simpler in terms of controls.
Fuck, even Freespace 2 is easily played with an Xbox controller.
Even exceptions like pic related can be played easily without the need to memorize everything.
But the community is full of autists lead by autists. The Staff are killing it.
X is only autistic if you want it to be.
What kind of monster can play SC with a controller!? It's impossible, every button has 3-5 functions depending ton tap, double tap, hold, tap then hold.... then add more fucntions depending on pressing various buttons at the same time.
It's impossible, I tried for about an hour before giving up
Last time I played it it ran like dogshit and was buggy as fuck. This was after the alleged fixes during a free weekend on steam.
All it has is alternate commands based on holding two buttons, and most of those you don't need to do more than once, mainly just turning off the anti drift and g-safe so the ship doesn't handle like dogshit.
Sure you could fuck around with power balance and shifting shield strength but just leaving them at default is fine.
It does not simulate space or trading, what is a simulation about it?
>Get over yourself.
Right back at you, since you seem to be the one that assumes his own incorrect use of language should define it.
Nexus The Jupiter Incident
Leaving them at default can also get you killed
At least post the updated version :^)
>Literally every non-OS-specific key except caps lock, alt keys, F12, print screen, break, and numlock key bound to a unique function.
I think vim has a more intuitive UI.
