Why do you prefer older games?
Why do you prefer older games?
they were focused on making actual games instead of experiences
Less handholding, more freedom in a lot of RPGs, and nostalgia. I still do occasionally play newer games.
Same reason i prefer older editions in roleplay games, they were more fleshed out and not catering to instant gratification and were actually difficult..
old games were made by the people who loved to play games themself.
new games are made for profit
Old stuff does stuff you want that new stuff doesn't do.
wrong board bro
much less reliance on graphics and artstyle, much more reliance on good gameplay and actual storytelling that you have to explore the world in order to find.
The grand thing about older tabletop RPGs is that they were LESS fleshed out, and you could insert your own ideas without any conflicting bullshit.
But new games are made by the people who grew up playing those old games
>new games are made by the people who grew up playing those old games
no they didn't, or else they did and completely missed what people actually likes about those games, or else they played terrible old games
paid and controlled by people trying to turn a profit
I don't.
Sup Forums is filled with newfags who don't realize how improved games have actually gotten on average, or they just act like old games are better to seem cooler.
>le games have gotten better meme
It's cute.
If you honestly don't think so you are either underage or dumb.
There's certainly less variety and less innovation outside of the indie scene, but the actual games themselves are far higher quality.
Games were unpolished as shit and had bugs out the ass as a standard. There was barely any quality control and shovelware was rampant. Nowadays, outside of the occassional PC port shitshow, games have an absurd amount of quality control put into them. How exceptionally bad PC ports are now is how games were ON AVERAGE on ALL platforms.
Hell, shovelware doesn't even fucking exist anymore, that's how far we've come.
There's also the obvious improvement in the amount of content and graphical/audio capabilities of games.
single player was good
no focus on online multiplayer
>shovelware doesn't even fucking exist anymore
I think what you say is true, but theres more games made than I can play in a lifetime. The average is meaningless.
>Hell, shovelware doesn't even fucking exist anymore,
Except on android, IOS, kickstarter, steam early access, and the shelves of any walmart.
>Games then
>"Look at all the cool things you can do"
>Games now
>"Look at how cool you can be"
More complex games, more fun games, and all run on toasters.
Nostalgia has nothing to do with it.
That looks like an accident waiting to happen.
Find the modern equivalent of Serious Sam, Command and Conquer, Unreal Tournament 2004, Carmageddon, Myst, Baldur's Gate 2, etc.. that aren't indie games.
Back the the accidents were part of the fun, just like in older games with bugs nad cheats, now everyone it's so extremely picky with the games, that they're not allowed to be fun anymore.
People had more kids back then so they didn't care as much.
In regards to this picture there isnt much difference between those being 20ft high and others being 7 ft high except for potential danger
its like tightrope walk. its the same trick at 1 ft and 100ft
Sums it up perfectly. It would've taken me several paragraphs to put this point across otherwise.
Developers were just goofy back then, and it showed in their work; the face-coin in that Mystic Marsh fountain(Spyro), the Insomniac Museum in Ratchet and Clank being a few extreme examples. Otherwise, they were invested in making a cool world to do stuff in/complete. And I'm sure they came from all sorts of backgrounds back then, doubt there were "game design" degrees offered everywhere.
Nowadays you get cookie cutter setpiece after setpiece experiences, by people who went to school to follow common curriculums and get hired at big-name publishers. At least that's my theory; I can't actually back that up with any statistics. Seriously, how did the same company that made Jak & Daxter be the one that makes Uncharted 4 and Last of Us today? I know they sell well enough, but I guess I've just fallen out of the demographic that works
but what about indies
they're not exactly focused on making money
They're more fun. There was more diversity of genres. Everything is blended into fine assimilated blob of shit now for the mainstream palate.
and kids are less likely to know the tightrope walk
besides that, it would be a shitty design if the beams were just an inch off the ground too, for physics reasons
Did you ask for permission to post this?
nigga the majority of older games were made to cash in on the latest craze. Thats how we get three ninja scooter games.
old games
>lets make a good game and hope we make a lot of money
new games
>lets hype the fuck out of a game and make a lot of money
example, no mans sky, modern WoW, modern CoD, modern Halo and I'm sure you can think of more
UFO shits on XCOM.
I don't. The games I prefer just happens to be old.
The market for the games I like doesn't really seem to be there anymore.
I'm contacting Texas history and archives division right now OP. Get ready for a party van.
>not exactly focused on making money
LMOA
Less leftist politics and indoctrination.
I don't prefer either. I just don't care for most modern games, and I don't have as much free time to sink into them, so I have to be pickier about the ones I do play.
It seems like the person who designed this really fucking hated kids.
They tend to be less buggy, and focuses more on gameplay.
