The whole appeal of Mario Maker to me is just being able to hop on 100 Mario Challenge and play random levels. Even if the 3DS version had online, you wouldn't be able to do that when you're away from home.

Can levels created on the 3DS be transferred to Wii U? That's the only thing that could really redeem this.

I pity any 3DS owner who buys this half-assed port.

They're hedging their bets with the NX just like they did with the DS by marketing it as a "third pillar". They will drop the 3ds just like they did with the GBA if the NX does well but as of right now there's no reason to not continue supporting the 3DS especially with Pokemon about to bankroll it again.

I've become so enthralled this game from watching witwix, and when I saw it was coming to 3DS, I was really considering buying one. But if there are no 100 Mario's, there's gonna be no point in getting this.
