Sup Sup Forums. I've been working on a game in source for a few years. It's an FPS.
And it's a zombie game.
But it's not open world, it's linear. Not too linear, there's a few paths to get through each level, but by and large where you go all leads to the same place in the end. That's most of the levels anyway. The final 3 levels which i'm working on now play a bit more like cry of fear.

It stars two teenagers, not "nerds" and not "jocks" just regular teenagers, 16 years old, a fat kid, and a skinnier kid. The skinny kid uses melee weapons. Starts off with a roll'n'pop toy, those ones that you roll them along the ground and there's little balls that pop up. One of those. He finds pretty standard upgrades, baseball bat (you can find a wooden one in the first level that breaks if you hit a zombie with it, then you return to the rollnpop), and eventually you come across either a set of sai or a katana in a weeb's house. Player gets to choose which they want, obviously they have their own benefits i'm sure you can guess.

The fat kid uses ranged weaponry, starts off with an airsoft pistol, and eventually moves up to metal BBs, and can get a nugget at a special point in the game, but it only has a handful of bullets scattered around the entire game, whereas you can get and even reuse the bbs.

The game is a co-op game, but can be played solo, with an AI controlling the other player. I'm still working on the AI.

Anyway, the reason i'm here is i'm looking for input, based on what i've told you all, what do you like and dislike as ideas, without any graphical input or otherwise? Obviously other insights are welcome too.

Unless you can make something better than Cry of Fear then I'm not interested.

>something better than Cry of Fear
Should be pretty easy then.

Name one free game better than Cry of Fear

>inb4 Afraid of Monsters

Thats the goal. It's a little more action-oriented than cry of fear is, but I hope to make the levels leading up to the climax a little more heavy on the horror, by changing up the pacing from being "go here get key go through door finish level" to "do a bit of exploring, find a few codes to open safes to get bullets/healing items".

It's also based in a much larger area than just a single apartment building, it starts off in one, but moves to a supermarket (walmart, not local, for the benefit of space), then to a police station (cliche, I know, but it's so effective), and then wraps back around to their apartment in a low point in the character's morale, and then the ending stuff happens which obviously i'd rather not spoil.

let me play it

In case you're not trolling - if the game doesn't control smoothly and killing zombies isn't inherently satisfying, nobody is going to like it.

Not really a possibility. Outside of the intro, demo level which uses a really rudimentary AI for the character you don't play, none of the stuff is ready for general public consumption.

Plus i've still got placeholder graphics for lots of the items and flavor stuff you find laying around so it looks ugly as hell. With any luck i'll be ready to launch come march though. Might make another post here closer to then with a bunch of keys.

My advice

Play Obscure 1 and 2 and try not to fuck up like they did. Your games sound very similar.

Also since you plan on using teenagers play Bully and take notes.

Finally post pics and webms or we'll never believe you're for real. Even that faggot Eva posted webms

I hope you make good progress

how the fuck are you supposed to kill zombies with BB's?

cool put it in the pile with all the other shitty Zombie Source games

Good luck op, I hope you find success with your project!

Or airsoft, lmao.

BB's sound really cheesy user, maybe let him get a .22?

Also make sure killing the zombies is satisfying, or its not gonna be liked.

>It's an FPS.
>And it's a zombie game.
You might've had success ~6 years ago.

>mfw people have never played Zombies at my Neighbors
>mfw I share a board with these uncultured swine

Adding to that airsoft also sounds horrible

>Zombies ate my Neighbors was an fps

Oh i did, its a good game. but i doubt an FPS can capture that same amount of soul.

I'm not trolling. It's just something i've been doing in my offtime, i've spent a good 5 years on this. It's a passion project.

The controls are pretty... Well, I mean they're not horrible. I haven't done anything to make them stand out or feel different from any other source game, as far as I know, besides making sure I got walking speed right, sprinting speed right, and general movement not totally fucked.

Killing is the reason i've been working on the game as long as I have. Like I mentioned in the OP you start off with a pair of laughable weapons. Before you yell at me for this, the zombies have health bars, but with properly placed strikes, there are small hitboxes on the zombies that allow for critical hits. Those are instant kills. It's a matter of proper aiming under pressure, and if you can do that, you won't really have problems. That's also one of the problems i'm having, thinking up alternate zombies, since they're all basically humanoid, except the bosses, of which I have a feral, giant rat (think parasite EVE's intro), and then the final boss.

the airsoft, plastic BBs are mostly for pulling the attention of the zombie while your partner whails on it. Metal BBs can crit with shots to the eye or exposed brain matter on a couple of the zombie models, or do very very minor chip damage.
I was debating that but I want the zombies to be feared rather than just mowed through, I could make ammo really limited but then one of the players is gonna complain about resource management while the other one has free reign with their melee weapon.

Anyway, thanks for the input guys, i'm getting back to work on it now. I might be back, probably not, thanks for your time!

So what, this is basically every other linear zombie game that exists without like-able characters? This doesn't sound worthwhile to play at all.

Why would you waste your time doing something in an already saturated market (i.e. zombie games) and not offer a unique experience?

Literally nothing you have described so far sounds original or interesting. No unique mechanics and linear gameplay with teen-age protagonists, which are literally the most unlikable archetype.

Stop wasting your time, or try to salvage what you have into something that actually has some unique ideas.

> plastic BBs are mostly for pulling the attention
That sounds like a sweet game to play with a bro ngl

>This user is so buttblasted that someone's having fun doing something they like
