60% off on steam. Is it worth it?

60% off on steam. Is it worth it?

How does it hold up against its peers?

Combat is a bit boring and you'll be doing a lot of it, but you can do some fun stuff if you care enough to get deep in the system

Story is hit and miss, I personally loved it but a lot of people couldn't feel invested in it due to the lack of "you're the chosen one". The setting has also tons of stuff to read on it.

Graphically it's very pretty for this kind of game, definitely above average, tho the spell particles usually get in the way of understand what the fuck is going on in combat a lot of times.

Overall it's definitely above average, not one of the greatest but certainly higher than BG1 and a lot of its imitators.

It has some very questionable design choices like no prebuffs because the game designer is a major autist

Nah, it's bad
Play Baldurs Gate or Planescape. It offers nothing over those

I'm curious too. I'm not sure how I like the graphics honestly.

Its the most boring rpg I ever played. They tried to appeal to everyone and made bland world with bland characters not to offend anyone. Also UNITY
lol

Good thing I pirated this trash

Is there a more fedora setting in video games?

>Its the most boring rpg I ever played.
you didn't play many

I played all of them. Even fucking Arena to the end.

>people couldn't feel invested in it due to the lack of "you're the chosen one".
Oh sure, that's why people couldn't get invested. Not because Thaos ix Arkannon is a boring villain, and not because the animancy dilemma is treated as a red herring to the god conspiracy plot.

Should I pirate it?

impressive if true, weird you found poe more boring than nwn 2 vanilla for example or anything bethesda past morrowind

>What is Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Nights?

Who's this QT3.14?

elf atheist waifu

Some bitch the villain killed a thousand years ago.

Depending on your choice literal nobody, friend, lover or sister. Personally I always chose sister since I feel it gives my protagonist a closer tie to her, lover is good too.

I enjoyed it a lot, my favorite RPG of the ones that came out from the last few years with this big renaissance

The only ones I'd even consider on par are Shadowrun: Dragonfall and Underrail

Also, Durance, Zahua and Edér are based and Thaos did everything wrong

I really enjoyed it, although on potd I occasionally run into packs that completely shittershatter my party

It's not bad but it gets boring quickly. I forced myself and played it for 50h and didn't finish it. It was the first cRPG I couldn't finish.

I enjoyed the start of the game then I had to stop for several weeks when I entered the big city to find the motivation to continue. Then I played several more hours and I enjoyed it again.
And then the start of Act 3 killed it for me. I couldn't force myself to get through the new maps with more of the same shitty encounters with two or three monsters again and again.

For a comparison I played Divinity Original Sin for 96 hours and enjoyed it from start to end and wanted more as soon as it ended.

I felt the opposite way about the games. Divinity: Original Sin had a great combat system but the story and characters were tedious as fuck and I couldn't handle finishing the first area, let alone the second after I rushed to it and saw it was the same shit but reskinned

Pillars of Eternity is much more interesting and engaging, shittier combat aside, imo

I would love the game more if Sawyer wasn't hellbent on ruining every fun way to play it.

Can the stupid fucker stop focusing so much on nerfing everything? This isn't a competitive game. It's single-player. Let me break the game if I want to.

I'd say it's worth it. The combat is pretty bland and lacking in genuine tactical options and the story, while not bad, suffers from poor pacing and exposition dumps, but other than that it's definitely above average if only because the average has been lowered a lot in recent years with the amount of shitty, braindead RPGs we've been getting.

However, if you don't have Original Sin yet, I reccomend you get that first.

PoE has no soul, just like JE Sawyer

Yea the plot had examples of excellent writing but the overall feel was kinda boring. Like the lore put me to sleep and the plot was kinda dead air.

It had way too little narrative gameplay and a lot of combat tied to this system that just annoyed me.

The characters were all superb. But there wasn't anything else carrying it.

It's like if New Vegas had 90% combat and a main plot that only had the NCR route. Sure it'd still have great characters and some great writing. But I'd find it to be kinda boring.

Fucking this.

The combat is never going to be great no matter what since it's pretty much mediocre by design, but nerfing everything that makes your character feel unique and powerful, and making everything equally pointless isn't going to make it more fun for anyone involved.

why are you so jaded holy shit user

its shit

just play fallout 1 and arcanum instead; those are the only good CRPGs ever made.

All of Thaos' crimes throughout the ages were more than justified. The people can't handle the truth so better let them live a lie.

Besides, the lie has by all intents and purposes become the truth.

>It has some very questionable design choices like no prebuffs because the game designer is a major autist

Odd thing to say since autistic min-maxers are exactly the type to prebuff like fags.

FUCK RPG CODEX!

>Besides, the lie has by all intents and purposes become the truth.
That's really my main issue with the plot.

So ok, the gods aren't actual gods, they're just constructs with incredible god powers. But by fantasy standards, doesn't that literally make them gods anyway? What's the use of making the distinction between fake gods and real gods if there IS no practical distinction? You can go on and on about how the gods aren't real, but there are demonstrably a bunch of superhuman jerkoffs with divine powers ruling the world, what is even the point?

That's literally the whole point of the game. You can tell basically everyone whether it matters or not.

>Got a boon from all the gods which boost you character

>Double cross them all in favor of Wocida who grants you functional immortality

>The entire region is fucked over by the retribution of several gods which alone is a minor catastrophe

>Feels good, man

>muh codex bogeyman

i really liked it.

I don't know about you, but I would like to know whether the god that is controlling my life is the being that created us or if he's just a machine created a hundred to a thousand years ago by a bunch of people that decided to program him with their morals and views on the world.

I'm not saying I would just go "Fuck god, then" and go around burning his churches, because obviously, he's still all-powerful. But I would absolutely still want the knowledge.

I hate when game writers derail the main quest to focus on their waifu instead of the things they've put work into actually making interesting.

Not the best game. Some people like it.
For me it was so boring I even regret wasting my time on pirated copy.

No divine right

Well I did say "by fantasy standards."

It's obviously that they're not the Christian idea of God, they're more like Greek gods who were basically just a family of human assholes with magic powers, or D&D gods who can get shanked and replaced by mortals if they're not careful. But gods nonetheless.

Congratulations on, the rationale is precisely what Thaos advocates and you can even agree with him. You can even have a companion lead the Leaden Key with the same mission of covering up the gods' origin because it might give people the impression that they aren't real gods despite their real power and influence.

I didnt play "all rpgs" like the guy you're replying to, but I did play NWN 2 and I had a lot more fun with it than I did pillars of eternity. Something about it just didnt work, I can't really tell you what it was. One thing that was annoying as fuck was the backer stories shoe horned in all over the goddamn place. What a waste of time. Oh wizard lesbos so progressive...

that's where the hate for poe comes from
it's all autismsuki fault

>but I did play NWN 2 and I had a lot more fun with it than I did pillars of eternity. Something about it just didnt work, I can't really tell you what it was.
because you're a d&d nerd and will eat even the biggest shit as long it's d&d
>Oh wizard lesbos so progressive
and a gg neckbeard virgin on top of that

>that's where the hate for poe comes from
Keep believing that

I found Thaos a great villain, he was certainly better written than fucking saverok or irenicus.

In fact I have a hard time thinking of crpg villains that left that big of an impression on me. He wasnt a maniacal cackler, and he wasn't obnoxiously vague and mysterious. He was exactly as mysterious as he needed to be, and when his motives were revealed he showed himself as not only driven and determined, but also arguing a good point against the protagonist's defiance.

I'm not sure what else you need from a villain.

His main flaw is lacking development in the middle of the game, which is true, is one of the game's biggest downfall, chapter 2 does a bad job at linking itself to chapter 3.

If gods were created by humans what right do they have to rule over us? The right of might makes right? If so why should humanity overthrow them and rule themselves by superior magitech?

>this was the game that saved Obsidian from going under
nice

Still, people assume in the game that the gods made them. Not once had they revealed that they were man made before. In fact, some of the gods (namely Woedica) had groups of people going around killing to make sure no one researched technology too much to make that exact discovery.

The same could be said of any god, artificial or not.

Only Woedica. None of the other gods have been shown as direly opposed to animancy on principle, as long as the principles they uphold are being observed.

Hell Wael probably encourages it.

Anyone looking forward to this? What's people's opinion on it?

k

The premise is definitely interesting. If the gameplay isn't shit I'll probably buy it.

>people couldn't feel invested in it due to the lack of "you're the chosen one"
Do people honestly like this? I hate this trope. I want to be a nobody adventurer who gets shit done by his own merits rather than winning the soul-lottery.
>Combat is a bit boring and you'll be doing a lot of it
This is my main reason why I couldn't stay interested, especially because I wanted to play a mage. Resource management is reduced to a shit meme if you're just going to throw endless hordes of encounters at your player.

NWN 2 game was shit, its saving grace is MoTB. A jump in quality between a core game and expansion I haven't seen since.

I'm looking forward to it, a bit sad they announced no friendly fire on spells, that's a bit part of tactics to me

I'm really looking forward to it. Everything I've read about it makes it sound better and better.

The narwhal bacons at midnight, brother.

As long as you're not playing POTD spell management shouldn't be an issue.

If you are well you're asking for the most grueling experience can provide, and you're getting it.

I prefer villains who make sense within their stories.

Thaos can just walk through a locked door into the most heavily-guarded room in the city, mind-control someone in full view of a crowd of people (including the player party, who were put on a balcony as a lame excuse not to do anything about this), murder the leader of a nation, and walk out. That tells me he can do whatever the fuck the writers need him to do, with no regard for consistency (nor for providing a satisfying conclusion to act 2).

He failed to provide any motivation to continue bothering with this game's main plot. He also had no discernible personality (as far as I played), a stupid appearance, and the silliest name I've ever seen on an RPG villain.

waiting for a preorder option, i neeed my crpg fix man

Depends. If you expect a decent RPG you're fine. It's got some good and some bad.

If you expect this to be an actual spiritual successor to BG2 like the devs claim, you're going to be sorely disappointed. It doesn't come close to that kind of experience.

Who's the most shit companion, who's the most shit. Substantiate your view.

Seriously though: If you have magic/technology that more powerful than god, what's the point of having a god in the first place?

It has absolutely nothing to do with le fedora atheist meme.

It's okay.

Paladin Vagina is the most shit.

Her quest is lame, her personality is dumb, and she's not even good at what she's supposed to be doing, mechanically speaking.

There's nothing in that scene that doesnt make sense ? Like you said, he's mind controlling someone from a distance, and no one besides a watcher has any way of seeing it. Secondly, he's an epic level priest and master of animancy, of course he can walk into the conference room of a backwater country ?

If you liked Baldur's Gate then you will like Pillars.

nigga i played baldur's gate and planescape probably 30+ times

even being a huge fucking rpg nerd you can only fuck the underdark's shit up so many times before you start drooling on your keyboard

>It offers nothing over those
It offers actual challenge. Both BG1-2 and PST are piss easy and the combat is shit in both games: in - BG1-2 due to shitty encounter design (even though the mechanics themselves are good) and in PST - due to both shit mechanics and encounter design. Bg2 has good combat only with tactics and Ascension installed.

PoE, on the other hand, offers VERY challenging combat, if you play on the hardest difficulty and is balls to the wall hard, if you go for the triple crown solo achievement.

It's a good h&s game with solid RPG elements. I've played it from start to finish and never got bored with the combat due to the ever present challenge.

Sounds neat, wish western studios would pull their heads out of their ass when it comes to character customization though.

She looks cool as shit, your argument is null

>preorder

Why? I have never done this and so far it seems like that is working out. Just wait till reviews are out and buy it then, or wait at max a year and buy it at a lower price sometimes with the preorder bonus.

Although I am looking forward to Tyranny.

>How does it hold up against its peers?

Absolutely not. Muh balance ruined everything. What's fun about replaying those old rpgs is how much you can break things and become demigod.
If you wanted challenge in old rpgs you could make your own rules(like for example no cheeseing in bg1 with Drizzt gear), choose a harder class or install hard mods. Player had a choice in those matters. Devs these days seriously lost their way.

>wish western studios would pull their heads out of their ass when it comes to character customization though.

Extrapolate.

>PoE, on the other hand, offers VERY challenging combat
Don't confuse annoying with challenging user.

>Actual challenge

Dude please
I mean I love the game but there's really nothing in there that should challenge you, the late late expansion high level encounters

Except those high level monks
Holy shit fuck those guys

>generic black womyn with feathers instead of hair
>looks cool as shit

Choose one.

only a year away
time to buy?

The best would be Durance since he's the most redpilled motherfucker out there and the worst would probably be Kan-whatever his name is. The shark teeth guy. Never really found him of any note.

>not waiting at least 6 month after release to buy rpgs

Both of you have exactly 10 minutes to post a video of you beating the last boss solo on Path Of The Damned. If you can't, then shut the fuck up. The game is challenging as fuck, unless you're playing on some shitty kiddy difficulties.

>Durance
>red pilled

his entire subquest is about slapping him silly untill he stops living in denial and admits his goddess is trying to get rid of him, while he still believes he can win back her love by being a hobo

calm down i don't preorder anything besides crpg's games with pre-rendered backgrounds
I liked poe so it's no biggie

Western games have terrible visual character customization. Hardly any options, some of the worst sliders around, tiny variations with no real control of a character's look. They rely on portraits to make up for shit models, so people can import their own portraits, but it's a sad substitute for actual character customization in the first place.

Shouldn't this have come out roughly the same time as PoE? They're lacking a little behind I would say as PoE 2 is already being worked on.

Yes user I'm going to reinstall PoE, complete the game on PoTD again and post that video, all in 10 minutes.

Kindly kill yourself.

Actual autism

See if you can pirate the beta first to see if you like it.

It's an interesting game, but it's definitely not for everyone. The combat is needlessly clunky, it's very dialogue-heavy, and the setting is pretty fucking dumb. It's basically just generic fantasy except instead of potions you have artifacts that do random quirky shit and instead of magic you have nanomachines.

I really fucking hate when a setting tries to be interesting by taking the most generic shit possible and just giving everything a different name. No, you dumb fucking shit, they're not called "Glaive, Jack and Nano". They're "Fighter, Rogue, and Wizard". Stop pretending to be original when there's literally nothing original in the whole game.

they never played on potd, don't kid yourself
jaded ones are mad because mages aren't op as fuck anymore like they been in baldur's games

officially they said it's because translation issues and final polish

unofficially everyone blames them signing a pact with a publisher to get a bit more money to bring it to consoles

Do yourself a favour and play Divinity Original Sin instead.

Swallowing the red pill takes time, at least one outcome makes him go full on Rage Against the Heavens.

Assuming someone would even go out and do it, you'd just shout
>LOL YOU USE THE OVERPOWERED CLASSES U SCRUB

But after Wasteland 2, does anybody really believe in it?

>unofficially everyone blames them signing a pact with a publisher to get a bit more money to bring it to consoles

Money grabbing whores.

the setting is super interesting tho imo

Mages actually are OP in Pillars, did you even play the game ? They're the second strongest party class right under priest, and probably the strongest solo class.

I find it humorous you accuse me of not having playing potd when you don't seem to know shit about the game

OS gameplay is really good but its characters, story and dialogue are pretty shit. I want them to combine OS combat improved and Tyranny setting/story set up so bad.
