>can't even get 60fps on fucking WoW either way
are you playing on a literal toaster?
>WoW
wow
Nope, GTX 770.
Probably something fucking wrong with it, but it seems to work much better on Ubuntu.
Also, I was running on Ultra (10) there. I usually run on around 7.
Enable CMST or whatever they're called, update to latest version of wine.
Ubuntu's repos might make that a little difficult, so use PlayOn Linux to to manage it.
>using linux
Sup Forums - video games
Thank Microsoft for holding PC gaming hostage.
Are the graphics settings the same?
WoW in OpenGL disables/lowers a lot of the graphics options
if you aren't running servers you have literally nothing to do with unix
>outdated games don't run well, if at all, on windows ten
how is this news?
>doing software development in Windows
Also Linux isn't Unix.
>No no no guys Loonix is GREAT for vidya, it has better performance in that ONE game!
>unix
GNU's not Unix
Why is Windows so shit with retro support?
>want to play some good old Blood Omen
>PS1 version is unplayable because of loading times
>download the PC version
>pretty much impossible to get working on modern Windows
>boot up Linux
>install, play, everything works, no messing around or configuring
Thanks Wine.
I use the OpenGL backend on Linux.
Flickering on the loading screen, then it works fine.
The only thing disabled with the new OpenGL backend is water, and i that to low on Windows.
>on a raid
>computer restarts
>begins installing updates for 3 hours
thanks microsoft
trust me, if it actually did play video games I would drop Windows in a heartbeat and I'm on Win7

This is only the beginning my friend.
Open up that ass, cause microsoft fucked all of us hard with their w10 exclusives.
Loonix is taking over.
>in a raid
>update whenever you want
>installs for 10 minutes in the background, requiring no restart
thanks stallman
>windows 10
>This is only the beginning my friend.
lmao they were saying this 5 years ago as well
You think 44 fps is good when I get a steady 59-60 in Dalaran in win10?
Uh oh.
nobody said that, just that it's not a worthwhile alternative to windows
and i really fucking wish it was, believe me
GPU passthrough. Best of both worlds.
b-b-but vulkan man, it's going to save us.
But seriously fuck microsoft making dx12 w10 exclusive.
I can't believe I'm going to say this, but at this rate macs are going to be better for vidya than windows
>Don't use Windows
>Instead go through a thousand different hoops to use Windows
>computers are a non standard technology
HOLD THE FUCKING PRESSES!
>Doing web dev in windows
>Doing anything but gaming on windows
Honestly I would love to switch to a Linux distro and tell MS to kiss my ass but until I can go on steam, buy any random new game, and be able to play it, I can't justify it.
So I guess I'm just forever Win7.
What's your GPU/settings?
I get 60+ on setting 7, I just set it to 10 for the comparison.
What hoops? Sure you might need some reading to get things working at first(and if you can't even bother doing that then you shouldn't switch to Linux in the first place) but after it works it works.
It's not like with Wine where it will be a headache every time you want to play a game.
So you're saying if I change to Linux, I would get 104 fps?
Ah right, it's been a while since I played using WINE it ended up being too much maintenance for me.
No. Linuxfags are tring to meme you out, don't fall for it.
>they never make games for Linux
>there's not enough people on Linux!
>guess I'll just stick with Microshill
Maybe. It depends on your system.
NVIDIA/Intel? Probably.
AMD? Probably not.
>Not using SteamOS
>Not having a dedicated Linux machine
Nigga pls
I have everything set to max and/or ultra.
Only time I have experienced a frame drop is when an npc uses one particular new magic effect. I think that's probably something they'll detect and fix.
>almost all new games are shit
>old games mostly run through wine
Works for me desu
Nobody ever said the situation wasn't bullshit. But that's just how it is. People aren't going to be willing to sacrifice their game libraries just to support Linux as a platform in the hopes of one day getting games to play, and why should they?
It's just the inconvenient truth.
>SteamOS
>running Debian, useless edition
Why?
Can I do it with integrated gpu and gtx 770?
GPU, then?
Also, did you get the Anniversary Update? Think that might've lowered my FPS.
I think so. Also make sure you have a CPU that supports it.
for more Freedums for my gayms
OpenGL WoW doesn't have the top 2 water settings, top shadows or the top SSAO.
So Linux lowering your settings is obviously going to improve your FPS.
Also >Latency
My only exposure to Linux is ssh'ing into my dedicated server and a few servers at work
I really don't want to deal with that shit as my desktop OS until a company can come in an standardize all that shit. I think that's what Canonical is supposed to do but i'm still not convinced.
Yes, but you can only use the integrated GPU on Linux, so no FPS benefits in native games.
Why wouldn't you want a free competitor to Windows to become viable for gaming?
Why not run a better distro though. Like you know, ordinary debian?
I just want to play WoW for 1 - 2 months until legion hype is over.
No one said that.
Nah, Apple has gone full retard. Still stuck on like OGL 4.1 (which doesn't even have compute shaders I think) and wont support Vulkan at all.
Linux is actually so nice for stuff that isn't games. I've got Windows on my computer, but I use a little raspberry pi hooked to my main machine for all the other nerd shit I do.
I used the same settings on Windows and Linux retard
Linux does have the Ultra High shadows though
You're still running closed source games with a closed source processor and (most likely) closed source graphics drivers.
SteamOS is absolute garbage. Enjoy reinstalling your entire OS every week because the Steam install got corrupted or some shit or randomly losing all your settings when Steam updates. It's worse in every way than just installing Debian or Ubuntu and setting Steam to start in big picture mode on boot.
Why would you want to standardize shit? The big reason why Linux is great is the user choice.
Imagine if you could have Windows without a retarded file system, spyware, better desktop environments. That would be great.
Play it in Wine then, didn't you see the OP screenshot?
Wine is literally just
sudo apt install wine
and then running WoW with -opengl
WoW doesn't run in OpenGL mode just because you run it in Wine, you still need to change a cfg to do that. Otherwise it will run in DX9 mode through Wine.
HAVOC OR DEATH KNIGHT
KEEP IN MIND I WANT TO DO DAMAGE
You are the reason systemd and pulse exists.
I know that feel bro.
>Love the game sacrifice.
>Play it a lot on win 7
>Install windows 10
>Can't run no matter what I do
>Open Linux and run it on wine
>works perfectly
>He thinks he can run ManKind Divided natively on his Meme OS.
Poor Sup Forumstist
No one is gonna bother to develop big budget games for a platform if they have to support every fork of every OS in existence
>ManKind Divided
literally who gives a fuck?
You just have to support Ubuntu/the Steam Runtime.
The rest of the distros will adapt.
Most of Sup Forums and anyone who likes good games.
It's the best game all year by far nigga.
>leaving automatic updates on
>I didn't want it anyway!
But >why would you want to standardize shit?
See where I'm going with it
Any sort of work on computers that goes deeper than spreadsheets is incredibly much more pleasant on Unix systems than windows.
>worrying about how you do your shitty web dev
here's a suggestion: on a designated shitting street using your android phone
you're right
>good
top kek
I don't think I said that.
I don't give a shit. I'd rather take no video games than take a shitty OS.
You don't have to standardize DEs/shells/etc.. That should be up to the user. You just needs to standardize the set of libraries you link to. That's it.
Get the fuck off my board.
Actually it is coming to Linux.
install gentoo
...
No, fuck you Poojeet.
I SWEAR
>not having a console for AAA and japshit and a pc for linux games
Actual pc games like Arma 3 tend to have linux versions anyway, its only console port garbage that doesn't.
Based fucking Squeenix lads
Any second now
>yfw Mankind Divided is a bigger flop than Nu Male Sky
We did it, lads. Year of GNU + Linux is here
>SteamOS
kys yourself

>Windows 10
There is your problem.
>it's a pajeets try to convince us windows isn't shit episode
>it's a pajeetsoft episode
>the game runs great on linux, all you have to do is download this, edit the config, change every fucking setting in wine and run this cmd line
>there are small graphical bugs but it's the price to pay to be a linux master race!
Nah actually you just install Wine from the software center (the "app store" in normie language) and double click the .exe
Pfft. Linux is already standardized. All those ""forks"" follow the X11 standard anyway when it comes to graphics, especially fullscreen graphics where the window manager typically does nothing. Just like on Windows.
Actually in a video of a X11 dev introducing wayland, X11 still supports Motif apps written over 20 years ago. (btw wayland has support of X apps too.) Muh no standards. Meanwhile on Windows the latest version breaks a bunch of things.
Really makes you think.
This.
MAYBE start
winecfg
to change some setting.
That isn't needed for WoW though.
