I waited in line for an hour and a half for this but FUCK it was worth it.
>The physics are not only 1-1 accurate but feel even a tiny bit better than the classic games.
>The drop dash is a natural extension to Sonic's movset.
>The level design is classic Sonic to a T.
>Green Hill act 1 is almost an entirely new stage after 30 seconds. There's at least half a dozen alternative paths to take. It's ridiculous how much they added.
>Screenshots and trailers do not do it justice. You need to sit your ass in front of a PC with a Genesis USB controller to get the real experience. Everything is in 60 FPS, not even the slightest hiccup.
I'm having withdrawals already. Fuck.
Ask any questions about the game and I'll try to answer them.
why are you posting here instead of walking around pax? I guess I'm not one to talk, I'm getting sloshed in BYOC
Asher Reed
Is it any difficult at all?
Nicholas Martin
I'm taking a break, I'm fucking tired as shit, standing up all day is killing my feet.
Owen Smith
Studiopolis is actually pretty difficult. Bad platforming get you hit.
Kevin Reyes
>Doing a normal human thing hurts my body
You a bigguy, a pansy, a tallboi, or just not wearing your shoes right?
Adrian Johnson
Was it the same demo that was already shown? If not were the special stages finally shown? The curiosity is killing me on what they could be like. Also were there any other monitor boxes? I saw the Combi-Ring from Knuckles' Chaotix in some footage last month.
Daniel Lee
Fought any bosses?
Chase Williams
I'm a lanky fucker, 6'3 here.
Jackson Jones
Yeah thats nice and all but how about the real HD sonic game coming out? or did they stop making those now and just make 2D rehashes? when is another original ambitious game like unleashed coming out again?
Jace King
Woah I think I see you, put a hand like you're Spiderman shooting web, lemme find out if that's you
Same demo from what I know, I heard something about there being another build behind closed doors but I can't confirm that myself.
There's a new boss that's inspired by Sonic 1's boss. It was difficult if you aren't paying attention.
Kayden Adams
What booth you at man
Lots of hot cosplay chicks this year. Saw a really fine R Mika around.
Joseph Lee
I'm glad that you got to play it OP, but I'm a bit disappointed it's the same demo again. I'm desperate for some new info.
David Fisher
Eh...i mean i got some epic vibes that i havent felt since the days of the sonic unleashed e3 trailer but then classic sonic showed up. Guess its another one to skip or wait on sale for. Hopefully this ones longer than 2 hours
Jordan Ward
i hope the windows port is decent since they announced it simultaneously instead of pretending it didn't exist until just before release
Jonathan Gomez
While I know Classic Sonic is some red flags they said the game isn't a sequel to anything so maybe Classic (and Modern) Sonic will have a different role with different gameplay (though I doubt it). I'm more interested in Sonic Mania but they really need to show off that game soon just to clear up the confusion about gameplay.
Parker Sanders
I think i remember takashi iizuka saying classic sonic would never come back either and it was just a one time thing for anniversaries. I played generations in 2013 when it was cheap as fuck and was disappointed. This just looks like the same thing with a new premise and original levels. Ill have to pass until its a lot cheaper because itll have no content or good story again. But i can see them focusing on sonic mania first since that ones coming out sooner...hard to believe this generation still doesnt have a big sonic game.
Mason Davis
Just got done playing the demo myself, just had small talk with a Sega rep, says more new info "soon" and the game is a "true follow up to S3&K" and each stage will have two "giant acts with a boss for each" Nor anything we didn't know but I'm happy I got confirmation.
Anyone else posting from PAX?
Zachary Barnes
HYPED AF
Thanks OP
Josiah Perry
>more 8 minute levels with tons of copy and pasted sections
It'll probably be fine, it seems like PC versions of Sonic games are generally fine, plus it'll probably get modded up the ass since Sonic fans sure love doing that.
>I think i remember takashi iizuka saying classic sonic would never come back Yeah, I remember hearing that also.
>itll have no content or good story again I can understand the doubt but I think it's a bit too soon to say that about the story, the darker looking premise has potential.
>But i can see them focusing on sonic mania first since that ones coming out sooner Sonic Mania has a different team working on it so it shouldn't be interfering with development on Project 2017.
Dylan Parker
If you want an "ambitious" Sonic game, go play Sonic Boom, Seems right up your alley.
The stories since sonic colors have just sucked ass, when they changed writers. I have seen a broad variety of sonic in different cartoons and games. I watched a playthrough of sonic lost world for the wii u since I don't have one and it was the first time i ever physically cringed at the dialogue in a sonic game. I would legit feel embarrassed if someone walked in on me playing that, think kingdom hearts back then if you've ever played that and mom or pa walks in during THAT scene. I have never had that happen with a sonic game, even the infamous 06 and some of its notorious scenes. Watching the story of cutscenes felt like twisting a knife in me, someone who grew up in the 2000s with all things sonic. I know different teams are working on it, but sonic team hasn't put out a good sonic game in the 2010s yet so i'm wary.
Carson Fisher
Out of this world.
Listen to this individual.
Gabriel Walker
That sounded boring and uninspired.
Benjamin Williams
It's a shame its the same demo, we already know the ins and outs of it. How difficult was that one enemy that gradually spits out tiny card projectiles in studiopolis though?
Austin Fisher
Fuck this game looks so fun, hoping to get my dissertation done before it's out
Tell me what sounded so great about it. It sounds like it tries too hard to sound like a Sonic CD song instead of being it's own thing.
Jeremiah Ross
Did you get to use the improved bubble shield
Carter Thompson
It's just Unleashedfag, guys. He's always in Sonic threads shitposting and slurping on Unleashed's lycan infested cock. Pay him no mind.
Colton Jackson
That wasnt even me. Unleashed isnt my favorite, it was just the last good sonic game before they all started sucking this decade. Sonic 3 or sonic adventure 2 is probably my favorite sonic games overall.
James Jones
The mini-boss music is fucking fresh too
David Ward
Considering I love CD's ost I don't find an issue with that.
Cameron Jenkins
I did but I lost it pretty quickly to this flying enemy that takes pictures of you.
Kevin Reed
That's why I said it was boring and uninspired.
Josiah Price
You mean the shutterbugs
Camden Ortiz
Sup, also that's the first I'm hearing of the zones having two acts.
Julian Murphy
>all stars racing >sonic team
Tyler Barnes
It suits Sonic a lot more than the shield, it'll give you a reason to pick him over Tails/Knuckles too.
Noah Hughes
I guess but I'll miss the shield it gave you increase combat and evasion
Ryan Walker
Questions.
Do we know many zones there will be?
Any Tails and Knuckles gameplay yet?
Did you test how Sonic works on inclines?
Landon Parker
Not him but
>Do we know many zones there will be? No, but it'll be longer than Generations according to Taxman.
>Any Tails and Knuckles gameplay yet? No.
>Did you test how Sonic works on inclines? Based on Sonic CD (2011) & the mobile versions of Sonic 1 & 2 they should probably work the same as those.
Cameron White
No, but the rumor is over a dozen iirc.
No.
Yes. It's fucking Taxman. Sonic controls just like he used to, if not better.
Juan Ross
Still can't believe we're finally getting a real, honest to God Sonic 4. Ive waited for this for ages.
Nolan Gray
does the drop dash work on any platform? does it require any skill whatsoever? a specific button press timing?
seems overkill, the speedrunners will balk
Daniel Young
>Still can't believe we're finally getting a real, honest to God Sonic 4. It's not, don't get too hyped.
David Miller
Its the first classic game thats actually going to be fast, dont shit your pants.
Ayden Martinez
>does the drop dash work on any platform? Why shouldn't it? >does it require any skill whatsoever? a specific button press timing? AFAIK, you have to hold the jump button as you are jumping and let go just as you hit the ground, so there's some timing involved.
This is all hearsay, though, I'm not sure how much of it is right. I haven't been following the game much.
Jacob Foster
Let's hear it.
What zones do you want to return?
Hunter Hall
>he can't go fast in the Classic games Casual.
Nathaniel Reed
It's literally Sonic 4 in everything but name.
Good one.
Camden Wright
>Why shouldn't it? it was suspected that it wouldn't work on platforms higher than where you jump from which makes sense if you think about it
but that webm debunks that
Ryder Evans
You posted the one I want the most already. I do also want Flying Battery, Lava Reef, Aquatic Ruin, Stardust Speedway & Bridge Zone though.
Nicholas King
Theres like 2 stages in each game that is actually built to accomodate sonic going fast along with obstacles. The other 80% of the game is just trial and error, smashing and crashing into traps, enemies, walls, or spikes. Why do you think peoples favorite levels include green hill, starlight, chemical plant, stardust speedway, hydrocity, ice cap? These are some of the fastest levels in the old games that arent just generic platformer stages
Nathaniel Hernandez
>The other 80% of the game is just trial and error, smashing and crashing into traps, enemies, walls, or spikes You sound like IGN now. Thanks for confirming you actually are a casual.
Dominic Brown
F L Y I N G B A T T E R Y
>It's literally Sonic 4 in everything but name. It's not. Sonic 2 and Sonic 3&K don't have nostalgia levels and they both introduce new characters to expand the scope of the series.
git gud
Henry Stewart
sonic has always primarily been a platformer
Christian Ward
Because it sounds like it's stylistically similar to another Sonic game? That's a little silly considering it's a Sonic game.
Adam Evans
>Tee Lopes is Portuguese
Many bacalhau com broa for him.
Luis Cooper
That's not a Sonic game
Lucas Diaz
Is there a better water level to exist?
William Ramirez
Typical Sonic Autist. The very first thing you mention is the physics.
Michael White
Don't they have people who worked on Sonic 2 HD working on this?
William Barnes
>>Complaining about more levels >Adding a new move >Isn't expanding on the series >It needs to force a new character to be Sonic 4 ok
Samuel Miller
But that's exactly what you wanted out of a sonic game, dumbass
Owen Green
not arguments
True, but it turns out fan favorites are the levels that are minimally that, funny enough.
Levi Lopez
I'm not that guy, dumbass
Gavin Murphy
Isn't that literally what you described? It's a platformer, and it does star Sonic, does it not?
Christopher Lewis
and that's why we have shit sonic these days
Ian Ramirez
Yeah. Those people went on to form Pagoda West Games.
Benjamin Jackson
I'm not either of those people, I'm just pointing out that's not a real sonic game.
Charles Smith
Can we just skip Sonic 1 and CD, and go straight to 2&3, please?
Nathan Flores
>It's not. Sonic 2 and Sonic 3&K don't have nostalgia levels and they both introduce new characters to expand the scope of the series. Not him but don't forget the Drop-Dash is a new mechanic to the game to expand upon the older gameplay. Also the returning stages are supposed to be different due to how much time is going by (which the new story is involved with as mentioned here youtu.be/5rDCmCd8BVo?t=335 ). Green Hill Zone is the tamest as Taxman said so I'm expecting other zones to show changes similar to Good/Bad Futures from Sonic CD (though maybe not as drastic).
Jace Wright
Up to the individual. I will say this, more people would line up to play a boost 3D sonic with levels like speedhighway, jungle joyride, empire city, cool edge, crisis city etc over a 2D sonic that is scrap brain, marble, labyrinth, metropolis, wing fortress, carnival night, launch base, marble garden, sandopolis, flying bettery, and death egg though. If you think any intrigue for sonic comes from being a platformer over his speed gimmick, youre gravely mistaken.
Caleb Cox
Is that why they keep put classic sonic in Generations & Project 2017 because Modern Sonic's speed can carry the whole game?
Joseph Morris
It's looking to be a home run.
I'm just waiting for Talks and Knuckles gameplay.
I want to see if they get new moves as well.
Jace Evans
...
Adam Murphy
They did that because classic whiners have been shitting up the sonic community since 1999 and devaluing games to extremes. Anyone with half a brain realizes modern sonic is the star of the show in generations and once again will be in 2017.
Matthew Howard
Is that why they put the Werehog in Unleashed?
Jonathan Flores
Sonic Team didn't want that, Sega wanted to pad out the game.
