Duke as an IP has been dead for a long ass time. Duke Nukem 3D will live on through source ports and map packs.
>tfw blood source code never ever
>tfw blood source code never ever
Last time I heard, someone was working on that. The Duke thing sucks though, because do you think people new to classic shooters are going to know how to use sourceports and shit? The version they'll be stuck with is this rip off shit.
Most people know enough to play doom with sourceport. In fact, most people seem to have a warped idea of what Doom is thanks to source ports.
That whole thing was beautiful. I've never seen something so bad before.
How do they even own this game? They shouldn't be allowed. The fans care about the series 100x more than the con artists who hold it now. Fuck your dirty money. I'm not buying shit.
This is a justifiable case of piracy. I'm glad I did; just run it through eDuke32, and it should be alright.
Know what? Good. Forever was so bad that I hope this series gets dragged through the dirt until it is a complete laughingstock if not totally forgotten.
youtube.com
this is actually good though
It is. Haven't played the DLC yet, but that's apparently solid too.
I'm not even talking about the series at this point, now they're going back and fucking with Duke 3D.
DNF wasn't that bad. It still possessed the essence of Duke, from Duke himself to the weapons and enemies; the problems lie in the modern game mechanics that Broussard loved so much. It's average at best but it feels a whole lot worse because it was announced 14 years ago as of its release.
I don't care.
Duke has always been a shitty main character and there have been better fps games around its time and after.
Though I hope nobody buys this and Gearbox go bankrupt and Randy Pitchfork considers suicide.
>Duke has always been a shitty main character
Contrarian as fuck.
>there have been better fps games around its time
Doom.
>and after
False.
Duke's essence is 80% of why the game is awful. I could see how it might be funny if you were, say, twelve, but if you are an adult maybe consider a little bit of maturing.
Not him, but Doom, Quake, and arguably Blood are up there with Duke for shooters of the time, if not better.
I still love Duke
The problem is that they did Duke wrong: They played him straight. Duke Nukem himself was part of the joke of Duke 3d, (Think Ash from Army of Darkness.) but they make everyone in the world think duke is the coolest person ever. Ruins the appeal.
>Outlaws
>RtCW
>NOLF
>Unreal
>Jedi Knight
>shit bait
Never mind.
>I've never played a Duke game that wasn't Forever
Ok, thanks for taking the time to talk out of your ass.
>RtCW
>Unreal
Top 10 material but not better than Douk.
I think he means shooters of the time, (RtCW and NOLF were released later) but I admire your taste in shooters.
I said Duke Forever played him wrong. Nice argument you also pulled from your ass, faggot.
Blood>Duke>Shadow Warrior
I don't like Quake but I never played it multiplayer.
You said the dumbest bullshit in this thread, I don't care about having an argument with you, I just wanted to make fun of you.
>yfw people will end up buying this
>yfw duke's name will be dragged through the dirt because Randy needs Borderlands funding
>yfw they're doing to Duke what they did to the Aliens
Please someone buy the IP and make the Duke equivalent to Alien: Isolation. I can't handle this shit anymore.
...
That is kinda interesting.
>$20 for Duke 3D with 8 new maps still in Build but loaded with the hottest new memes like bazinga
>$20 for BG1 expansion using the Infinity Engine and adding the trannies that were the downfall of Bioware
>$30 for a new Doom using megatextures and published by Zionmax and it's actually good
2016 is really fucking with me. I would've thought a new Doom would be garbage and I would love a new Infinity Engine game and new Douk, but here we are.
>adding new content created by the original devs
What the fuck are you retards whining about?
Say what you will about Blood 2 and the Shadow Warrior reboot, but God damn Caleb and lLo Wang didn't get it this bad.
Duke 3D's still pretty great
The new content sounds great, but releasing a package that's twice as much as Megaton without any of the expansions is ridiculous.
So what happened?
...
>Next game will have Duke making Gamergate references
JUST
And removing three expansion packs with upwards of 10 levels each, one of them being a total conversion with water pistols and shit.
Also this ain't fucking 1996 anymore. 8 levels in the Build engine is not $20 worth of content no matter who fucking makes it. It isn't even a goddamn total conversion like Life's a Beach.
Your face, your ass, what's the difference?
Wait, they are just releasing the classic Duke Nukem with new few maps? Holy shit
They're actually re-releasing it with less content at double the price. You could get megaton edition for like 10 bucks and it came with three expansion packs that won't be in this new re-release.
For the low-low price of $20!
Yup, and double the price of Megaton.
Not to mention it looks like shit. They somehow managed to downgrade a game from 1996.
>eduke32 forum is already discussing about porting the maps+new content to base duke3d
Maps were made by the same guys from the original game, so that's something, if any.
I'm glad to hear this. God speed, you magnificent bastards
So, um, I'm assuming its probably not a good idea to say that I'm looking forward to this, huh?
I'm glad for you, but just know that as great as the new episode could be, it still is a rip off compared to what we got.
How so? Its not like Gearbox itself is making it. Its literally the old crew again.
Still mad Warner blocked NOLF from getting licensed to NightDive.
It's base Duke 3D and 8 new maps for 20 dollars, compared to the Megaton edition which had Duke 3D and 3 expansions for 10 dollars.
They couldn't even be bothered to put Life's a beach in it, yet they want double the price.
Ah, I see what you mean now.
Although honestly Lifes A Beach is the only thing we're really losing out on. The other two were mediocre.
Hey man, paying 4 guys to spend a week to make a Duke3d GRP costs time and lots and lots of money.
Am I supposed to be sneaking through most of NOLF? I'm sort of stealthing but when I get caught I start going rambo.
Does it even have the graphical improvements and dynamic replay of the 360/ps3 version released ages ago?
I'd imagine so.
I just realized the helmet is off
Still waiting on them to port the PS1 maps over.
F
>Updated visuals
>Looks the same
Meh I am not paying $20 for 8 new levels. I already own Megaton.
Send me a key for DN3D, I put my email in the email field.
the past couple of years have just been one disappointment after another
Wouldn't hurt for Gearbox to redo all of the sound clips so we have decent quality audio instead of 22khz recordings
They apparently were going to release the PS1 maps first on the HTTKC (hail to the king collection), a 5$ DN3D release for android which contained every single duke3d expansion ever (they even hyped beta material). Short after it would have got a free PC release.
Too bad this angered Randy and soon started the court debacle between Gearbox and Voidpoint (TerminX's studio who was in charge for the HTTKC and supposedly had full release rights claimed from none other than Scott Miller, co-founder of the hasbeen 3D Realms), peaking in actual (deleted) twitter menacing from Pitchford, which sadly got Gearbox on the winning side again. All of this because of Scott's fault apparently.
That's why it has been delayed since then.
Thats what they are doing.
They did, except they sound especially deadpan when compared to the original, at least to the leaks we have.
>22khz recordings
I wish, they were originally 8khz, PS1's port bumped them to 11khz but that was it. I swear the 44khz ones are still available somewhere. Maybe at GT Interactive studios.
Doubt the new episode can be any worse than Nuclear Winter or those Duke!ZONE addons that were just a bunch of shitty fan maps from the internet sold on disc. Also Megaton Edition used a sourceport that was worse than a free fan made alternative that's been around years before it so it's not like anything of value was lost when that got removed from Steam.
This is all assuming that they haven't shown anything outside of those few screenshots I saw on /vr/ a few days ago totally making me look like a fucking moron.
>Gearbox remakes Duke 3D
>They take out all the dialogue involving women, as they don't want him being misogynist
>They change his model so he is now chubby, to represent a wider range of body types
>They darken his skin color to be more inclusive
>The women are all fully clothed and invincible. The strip club stage is removed due to it being problematic.
>Duke no longer swears, to ensure Youtubers can advertise their game
I literally don't think its possible for me to hate anybody as much as Randy Pitchford. Such a slimy little kike, at least Anthony Burch was fun to laugh at.
>The strip club stage is removed due to it being problematic.
This was already done on Duke Nukem 64, just a headsup.
So Duke 3D was a send-up of western action. Shadow Warrior was a send-up of eastern action. Blood was a send-up of horror movies.
Even Duke fans have to admit it: all of his good lines are stolen from Ash.
I haven't followed vidya in a long time. Has anyone tried to repeat those fps send-up formulas with new franchises?
Yeah, it became a burger joint, I believe.
Not really. Serious Sam is kinda like Duke, though.
Not really, no. The only example I can think of is No One Lives Forever, and even that's over 15 years old.
They made up for it on the N64 by merging Red Light District and Duke Burger into one level, and it filled out the level rather nicely.
Good point though. I forgot about NOLF.
There was Matt Hazard, a third-person cover shooter that tried to poke fun at video games, both figuratively and literally. It was a very average game at best.
Strip club in Duke 64 was just a parking lot if I remember right.
...
I believe the porno shop with the jack-off booths became the duke burger.
