Is this REALLY that good? Is it better than DQ7 3D? I'm buying the new Ace Attorney when it comes out and I don't really wanna buy three games all close to each other, so I'm trying to decide if I should pay 20 buckaroos for this or 40 for DQ. I know I'll enjoy DQ but this is a gamble.
Opinions niggas. It's always compared to Persona 4, is that a fair comparison?

Technically yes, but a LOT of things will go right over your head.
Hoo boi. Guess I'll start with Trails in the Sky as I originally intended.
It's super generic with a bad magic and skill system and terrible characters that have lifelong DRAMA that gets solved literally within a couple days. It's like a 6/10 jrpg with is the second worst score a jrpg can get. I'd rather play something shitty than mediocre cause at least I'd remember it
For a peak into the quality of the writing, I think out of the 9 initaial main characters, all but fucking one has a dead parent. Every single one either has a dead mom or pop.
This game also committed a fucking awful crime. After you beat Chapter 6( The peniultimate chapter of the game, it comes before a chapter literally called The Final Chapter), the main character goes into a monologue where he describes all the fun and whacky shit he and the characters did. I'm talking major plot points and character growth here. You get to see NONE of that. IT's not in the game. Some of the things you miss are
1: An Audience with the Royal Family (important
2: Meeting the heads of the four great noble houses (really important
3: Spending a few days with the entire party in the main characters home town (REALLY important)
It's so fucking stupid. The plot is dumb, the characters are all pretty unoriginal, the highchool setting is obnoxious and seriously fucks with the pacing of the game. If you're a BIG fan of Trails in the Sky, or can tolerate cliche and horrible pacing I'd say it's worth a pirate, other than that avoid.
Are Estelle and Joshua in this game? What happen to them? Are they no longer story relevant? Kinda sad that they become just another random npc.
There are a few chapters that drag (Roer) and you're gonna get real sick of that blond girl real fast but the good parts more than make up for those hiccups
There's no need to even dissect it, anyone with the smallest amount of taste can tell that the game is weeb garbage from the boxart.

Take some advice from a REAL, LONG TIME, HARDCORE Falcon fan like me, don't even bother with it.
I'm 19 years old, no knowledge of Japanese whatsoever, but I have been playing Falcom games since the original release of Dragon Slayer (1984).
Modern Falcom is SHIT!!! Falcom games were never anime or Japanese or cliched in the slightest.... But nowadays, that is all their games are.
If you want to play a REAL game, try TiTs. It is so much better, truly a masterpiece.
But if I want to play a REAL masterpiece, you of course need to play the crosbell games! Not that you speak Japanese though.... Just take it from me, these are the games where Falcom TRULY shines!!! Not that I played them.
Anyway, that is how it is.

This game has the strangest thing about it. When people buy and play it, they immediately notice how bland and generic it is but for some reason they'll champion it and try to convince people it's the best jrpg in the last couple years. It's like the game drugs you into thinking that maybe you should take it home with you tonight and you wake up next to a 300lb whale with a micro-penis that then gives you $500 each time you mention how great it was when in actuality, your hip just hurts, your shirt collar got stretched out, and you smell like ravioli for some reason
It's Trails in the Sky but not as good. Worth playing if you want a long RPG or are into the series.

A lot of things which aren't really integral to the plot of this particular game but are about the wider story. You should still play FC/SC first though.
