What was it in German? Da ist errrr?

Replayin NotR atm, bows are ridiculously overpowered and you can buy the best one in the game right at the start

also infinite money from high dexterity pickpocketing

Don't make me cry

>MFW Polish dubbing is the best

This.

Did Risen have a different English translator than the Gothics? I played all games with German voice and English subtitles, and in every Gothic game the translation only made minimal changes to the text. Risen though? It switches around sentences, and often what I hear has absolutely nothing to do with what I read. It's a strange experience, to say the least.

only reason this game had impact in Poland it was dubbing. This game is more popular in Poland than other countries expect Russia maybe.

I don't know about that, but you guys at least have a pretty good wiki, so that speaks for the community. I still find it fucking weird that there is basically no English wiki.

youtube.com/watch?v=L0uE1t20U3A

Maybe that's why Risen was missing the charm of the Gothics.

no it was because risen was a shit game

Well, I haven't heard the English voice acting so I don't know how it actually sounds, but yeah, I can't think of any reason that would explain some of the changes. The Risen protagonist is different from NH, he speaks differently, his lines are somewhat different, but the translation is just plain weird as shit.

I'm really happy that games doesn't get dubbed to my language.

Why was Gothic III so bad?

>a city with a biggest women population is that one in the desert with whole 4 of them (all 4 are slaves)
>no city is bigger than that "little" town of Chorinis from the second game
>player can end up with dozens upon of dozens same kind of weapon stacked in his limitless inventory because merchants don't have infinite amount of money
>attacking bases is piss easy because enemies just circle you and attack one at a time and then run away (I've got a human king run away from me before I've even seen him, that was funny)
>fighting is piss easy in general and except maybe some enemies you can't defeat in the beginning it feels like you could kill everyone with a Level 1 hero (if I went with my low-level hero in an area with high level enemies in Gothic 2 I would be killed in a split second and left wondering what happened)
>all mages and orc shamans cast same fireballs and healing (even their supposed strongest)
>bugs

That's cool if you understand the original language, although then you wouldn't even have to listen to the dub. On the other hand those who don't very often only have fantranslations to work with. And the quality of those is, well, questionable.

Russian here, first two gothics are cult status here, dubbing is absolutely awesome too.

>in ELEX only Berserkers have magic
>so why was a Cleric mage in the trailer?
>oh, that, that was totally not magic, that's PSI

Wait, what. How is PSI not magic?
Fucking Krauts, I knew they would try to pull another Sect Camp and sucker me into joining hippies with promises of magic.

PB wanted western audience.
It failed.

>bugs

wouldn't have been a gothic game if it didn't have bugs

they just got way to ambitious and considering that it still turned out rather decent... but still wtf was up with the 2handed combat in g3?

>"Zeig mir deine Ware"

open-world

>make two classics (G1 and G2)
>completely miss the point on why exactly those game were so loved
>make a wannabe elder scrolls, completely drop the atmosphere and the detail in favor of a huge empty piece of shit world
>kill your series and lose your rights

>excellently remake gothic 2
>completely miss the point on why the remake was so loved
>completely drop the atmosphere and the detail in favour of story of all things
I can't believe they actually think ANYBODY cared about story in Risen 1.

Elex looks awful as well so I don't think there's any hope left

Powiedz no, czy to coś z przodu twojej głowy to twarz, czy dupa?

>a city with a biggest women population is that one in the desert with whole 4 of them (all 4 are slaves)
the other female slaves were obviously kept in sex dungeons

>a city with a biggest women population is that one in the desert with whole 4 of them (all 4 are slaves)

I liked that one city in Nordmar where they put all 3 generic females they had right next to the entrance to give the impression they actually had grills there.

>Gothic 3
>become a mage
>literally just have to sneeze for everything to die in 1 second
>equip a katana anyways because it looks hilariously edgy
I mean it was a genuinely awful game, but I enjoyed my time with it

Wich armor is this?

Mud:"Hey, Mann! Neu hier? Dich hab' ich hier noch nie gesehen."
Mud:"Wenn du nichts dagegen hast, komme ich ein Stück mit. Du kannst sicher einen Freund brauchen."
Held:"Verpiss dich!"
Mud:"Bist heute nicht so gut drauf, was? Ich glaub', ich komm' mal besser mit ..."

You joke, but there are seriously only 3 named female NPCs in the game, all 3 slaves, and this is all they have to say:

NPC 1:
>What is beauty worth without freedom? Can you tell me that?
>I am weary of dancing.
>I hope that soon I will belong to someone who admires more than just my dancing.
>(after selling her) Thank you.Hamid is an honest fellow. I will do well here.

NPC2:
>(when taking her back to her owner) I will follow you, master.

NPC3:
>Mmh. What a handsome fellow you are. A merchant from Mora Sul, by any chance?
>Too bad. I would have loved to become a rich merchant's wife.
>Being the wife of the richest merchant in town would put me in good stead, don't you think?
>(after selling her) Thank you, kind sir.
>Belonging to the richest man in town is a huge step towards my goal.
>Mark my words. Some day I will be the wife of Gonzales.

And that's it. All the female dialogue in the entire game aside from generic barks.

That's the light dragon hunter's armor.

Gothic II was pretty open-world, I think. With only 3 separate "levels".

I am sure there was one mission where (oh noes!) raiders kidnapped a village elder's daughter (and the only female in the village, of course). I couldn't for the life of me find where the raiders were, so where did that quest lead to?

I don't remember that, can you still recall where was that? Are you sure that was not Forsaken Gods?

Ät fekaler, skitstövel.

Welp, time to install again.

It was the very first village you should find when entering the desert part. No, it wasn't Forsaken Gods.

>tfw man das erste Mal gegen Kharim und Kirgo kämpfen muss und sie sind ultra stark, weil man noch nicht trainiert hat.
Mud:"Hast du auch einen Faible für Tiere? Das haben sie ja gar nicht gerne. Da haben sie mich eingebuchtet."

Is there supposed to be a boss enemy or some sort of quest every 5 steps or something?

Ah, that. That was Aila, or NPC2 in my post. She was not the guy's daughter, but his slave, and the nomads kidnapped her because they wanted to use her return as a distraction to attack the city. You can play along, take her back, and then they help you with the raid. Or you can just simply kill them all and take her back.

Powiedzmy sobie szczerze, przyszedłeś tutaj tylko dlatego żeby móc pocałować Gomeza w dupę!

Oh, I see. The best place with the best quests was that stoner village. That reminds me

>there were no side effects for smoking in 3

You forgot the ending, user.
>they return to totally-not-JoWood

Nordic wants to be not-THQ
Not not-Jowood.

We will see how ELEX turns out. Looking at the features lists they learn. Slow but atleast they learn.

Yeah, Lago was cool. It was probably one of the writers' pet project or something. The weed gardener there had more dialogue than most of the main characters in the game, and the writing there had actual humor to it instead of the dry crap you get everywhere else, with the exception of the rebels of Montera.

Too bad that while finding out the prisoner was Vatras, freeing him will give you a heart attack when you realize he looks and sounds nothing like Vatras and might as well could be another random NPC. Same goes for Lares.

I have good feelings about ELEX, but I still don't have the slightest idea how they are planning to pull of a multiplat game 1.5x the size of Gothic 3, when they couldn't do it with Risen.

I liked and disliked at the same time how Lee was fucking insane. He intended to kill Rhobar despite him being the last bastion for people to rally around. He didn't seem to give half a fuck about the orcs and their occupation of the mainland and enslavement of humanity. If you ask me, life in a penal colony is preferable to enslavement by a non human race. At least you're sitting behind the barrier with your fellow humans.

I only ask for 50 gold pieces.

They admit that Risen was the result of bad planning.

They went all out with ideas for the first half of the game and later just couldn't come up with anything for the second half.

Also one reason why they at first didn't dislike the setting change of Risen 2.

ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?

Basically, PB was rushed by JoWood. They publicly apologized about state of the game on official forums after launch. G3 was simply never finished properly.

That´s bullshit, it had the same impact in czechia and slovakia. Without a dub. Just subtitles.

I have a theory that Gothic and Homam for some reason attract slavs. But i have no idea why. Anybody mind helping figure this out ?

There is only one way I can possibly explain Gothic 3's dragons.

Gothic 1 through 3 seriously had some of the most strangely appropriate writing I've ever seen in any RPG. Especially the MC. He sounds so sardonic and detached it comes off as complete package in its own right. He's kinda like not-retarded Avatar from Ultima 9.

Gothic 3 OST was pretty comfy.

From time to time i like to start a new gameand let it be after i finish Myrtana.

>stealthily murdering that Pablo or whatshisname guard who recognizes you stops him from reporting you to the authorities later
It's the little things.

>>steal a developer copy and print it to get money quick
wait, seriously?

Magic is the only way to play through Gothic.

I wish more RPGs would take inspiration about progression from Gothic 1 and 2. It wouldn't be a mistake to look them up for level design.

I haven't played Gothic 3, but that sounds a lot like Gothic 1.

What armor is that?

First dragonhunter armor, pleb.

>Homam
It may be caused by complete lack of Nintento's influence. Slavs didn't really have access to games known world-wide until like 2000.
Also something about being poor.

Are you guys ready for Elex to be a total fucking disappointment?

What are you talking about. We had vietnamese game systems support instead of Nintendo.

HoMM was one of the first games to get a really well done localization for those countries. Also M&M is a good series and used to be popular.

It's like after 3 games they completely forgot what was the deal with Lee wanting revenge. It was not the King he should have targeted, it were the nobles of Rhobar's court who conspired against him. The fucking Queen was assassinated, what the hell should have Rhobar done? He made the best of the situation, he saved Lee from execution and locked him away in the colony instead.

But by Gothic 3 Lee seems to have forgot this little detail, forgot all about his plans, waltzes into the fucking room, and then no dialogue, no cutscene, no nothing just screams "There he is, the swine. Let's get him!" (actual quote) and throws himself at the guy.

Can we ever ask Rhobar about it? Nope. Does Lee have any kind of plan? Nope. Does he ever take revenge on the nobles who ruined his life? Of course not.

But in the ending he becomes general again. General of what? There isn't even a king or an army. Who made him general anyway? He got the entire fucking capital killed. If he was innocent before he sure as hell isn't anymore.

The whole thing was so bad it was downright comical.

They are just not the same dragons.

Too big to be good.

weird, I got through the games just fine while swinging a big fucking sword

But user, no one has seen dragons for thousands of years. That was kind of a big deal in Gothic 2. So where the hell did they come from?

youtube.com/watch?v=LqY6Omst5pM

Sooo, should I play Gothic 3 and Risen Sup Forums? I can't decide after reading this thread.

>big bad publisher boogieman waaaagh
Then why are PB's later games complete garbage if getting rid of the evil publisher was the only thing that kept them from making amazing games according to you?

How's your tolerance for bad games? You might as well, it will give you a better insight into what to expect from PB nowadays.

>the whole thread is literally dedicated to shitting on Gothic 3 with occasional comments on how Risen 1 was great
>I can't decide after reading this thread.
?

>Didn't even read the post

It says that PB always had shitty publishers.

It's weird, they are called dragons, can spit fire, often have lots of gold but they look like giant scavengers. Perhaps they really are a different kind, just like how the corinis scavengers and myrtana scavengers are different kinds.
Also, they are often in really hard to reach places, one dragon is found on top of a mountain, where very likely no human has been for thousands of years, and two others are in a mine beneath cape dun. (which is filled with monsters to the brim, so likely no human has been there too, tough i can't explain the mineshaft-complex then.

Gothic 2 requiem mod got a big update a few days ago why the fuck are you not playing it Sup Forums

best mc in an rpg

Well that's a pretty stupid statement seeing how Risen 2 and 3 both weren't unfinished especially if you compare them to Gothic 1 and 2. They were just genuinely shit games and no amount of polish and money could save them from being shit

There is also one in the desert, somewhere very close to Ben Sala, at the dune where Cronos is. Just standing out there in the open, not even moderately hidden like the others.

This. Smartass that doesn't take any shit from anyone.

>Risen 3 wasn't unfinished
Did you even play the fucking game?
The villain was an old man that comes out of nowhere, does nothing, and dies just like that.

Gothic 1 got rushed
Gothic 2 got rushed
Gothic 3 got released while still being in the middle of development
Risen 2 got a forced setting change with Piranha not being able to do anything with it plus huge gameplay downgrades due to console releases
And Risen 3 was just them not giving a fuck at all. It still had nearly all the weakpoints from the second game and they tried to insert some fanservice to make up for it.

Risen 1 is pretty much the only game they were able to develop without too much hassle. And the only real weakness of that game was them running out of quest ideas in the second half.

The strange thing is, Gothic 2 had the sub-plot about the Lizardmen trying to smuggle Dragon eggs to the mainland. So we actually have an explanation of how they could have got there, making every Dragon in G3 freshly hatched fledgelings. That could explain why they can't talk, why you don't need the Eye to kill them, and why they have beaks (egg tooth).

But it wouldn't hurt if the game had at least a single Lizardman so we could pretend this is really what happened.

Well, with a war going on, and all the lizards on corinis dead, we can assume there just simply is no more lizards

What was the funniest bug in Gothic III?

I had my screen glitch in the desert area unless my character was holding an active torch so I had to look at him running with it high above his head in the broad daylight.

...

The most fun way to get through I should say

Me killing a Scavenger with his body stretching so far he turned into a black noodle.

That and people getting stuck in walls, on chairs or in the ground.

too bad it's still a shitty fight in the game

Kayor the nomad asked me to raid Mor Sul with me and his boys, and I was to meet them in front of the city.

Originally I teleported there, but no matter how long I waited, they wouldn't come. So I reloaded my save and this time accompanied them.

Mora Sul stands on top of a hill. When the raiding group reached the hill, instead of going around it, they ran straight into the rock wall and disappeared there. They were now under the city, and entered combat because the assassins were above them.

But since one faction was on the map, and the other under it, no one could touch the other. So from that point on the entire city was in a never ending state of active combat, making any kind of trading, talking, or looting completely impossible because you can't interact during combat.

Yes. Gothic 3 really is a tragedy. They should have had a year more time for development and bug fixing, but the publisher released the game against their will.

Though I doubt even with a year more development time they would have included interesting quests and female NPCs. It seems as if they completely forgot women even exist.

You can only be disappointed if you have expectations. I haven't been expecting good games from PB since Gothic 3. I bought that game on day one and was so excited. I still have the box.

That's what you get for siding with filthy nomads.

...
