Do them in Free missions, and when they get a 3 star thingy at the end, you will get an event with them.

to be fair this is explained in lore, that bias compatibility is ideal in teenage years, and most god eaters don't live to be adults. And the ones who are, are retired now. So most recruits are teens.
The oldest active god eater is Lindow and he's technically not even human anymore.
Well you gotta remember, the whole blood thing is basically more genetics than actual skill. They aren't recruiting the best of the best, they're recruiting whoever has the highest compatibility with the P66 bias factor. Which leads to the situation you described.

Well I mean it makes sense for them to not be in combat uniform during a cutscene inside Friar. But yeah when it happens during a combat cutscene it looks a little crazy. But at least when my guy is in casual clothing along with the rest in Friar scenes it looks a little better.
They were important and kept thing running, sometimes just making sure things don't burn down is an amazing skill in a boss.

Hammer for damage, Spear and Longsword for combos, Scythe for ludicrous range, Shortsword for gotta go fast, Buster.... does anyone still use it? Hammer seems to have outclassed it.

Blood Arts simply buff a signature move of the weapon, use the one you like.
The cards at each mission just give extra rewards.

Variant Scythe can unfold to four times it's length, and the base scythe already has the length of a longsword.
Fucking thing can slash things from a distance.
Aragami have a single health bar, but their armored parts have durability so they reduce damage, breaking them allows you to attack the exposed points for higher damage.

Tsubaki was retired because if she kept fighting she would die. You can only be a God Eater for so long even if you keep surviving since the aragami cells in your will eventually erode your body if you strain it too much (see the guy in the anime).
