It felt rewarding to finally beat Ultima Weapon.

In retrospect that's all I've got. This was such a disappointing follow up to VII.

The junction system was interesting in theory.

...

Best soundtrack in Final Fantasy history.

I'm not even lying or joking. The game is awful but the soundtrack is the best it's ever been.

I actually liked the junction system. I want to see it more balanced and brought back in a future game.

The final dual bosses were cool, also switching out the teams to fight with was interesting. Triple Triad was ok but i dont enjoy it as much as Tetra Master in FFIX.

What with all the fucking theories for this game?
>its was all a dream
>he died when implaed with the icicle

The music is phenomenal.
The 'BOOST' function on GFs is a neat idea.
Some of the limit breaks are unique.
Quistis is sexy
They remembered Gilgamesh
Ultima Weapon fight was intense
The opening and final cinematics were enjoyable
The junctioning system is neat if you're okay with magic in the game being utilitarian and not an offensive attack source
Pretty cool GFs like Doomtrain, Cactuar, Eden etc
Ultimecia's castle was really well done and had some unique enemies within
You go all over the place, from back in time to all the way to fucking space

plus the fan theory about Squall being dead was a fun idea

Seriously I loved FF8, I played it at just the right time in my life when I was old enough to start to being into girls but not yet cynical yet. I'll agree the game hasn't aged well

It ended.

I liked Squall. I also liked the junction system despite how broken it was.

>X is Ultamecia

The only thing that needs to be done to fix the junction system is an upper limit that is tied to level.
A limit that wouldn't be reached under normal means but only if you are literally farming draw points and cards you'd hit it.

It had catchy music.

...too bad it was wasted on a shitty game. Oops. Fuck it, I tried.

I really really enjoyed the scene when galbadia garden attacks balamb garden and people are flying around and shit

Disk 1 is easily the best early section in the entire franchise.

Triple Triad.

Triple Triad was actually a lot of fun. Cardin enemies in battle not so much, but once I won a bunch of good cards from players and didn't have to worry about that anymore, I could play it for a while without getting bored.

Quistis.

I liked the story. The atmosphere. Squall, although emoish is no where near as bad as people make out. (No more emoish then Cloud, yes it's true, shut your mouth.)

The only FF I bother replaying.

The first disc is honestly fantastic, the moods, the characters portrayals, the music, the graphics, the designs in general. The entire first disc was a very impressive tech demo.

The card game was pretty fun but they do a real shit job of explaining it in game.
Still, once you get into it, and read a guide online of how to not fuck your areas over, it's something they could have included in every FF game. Just change the cards to be the monsters and characters from that one

Quistis was cute.
Soundtrack was outright great.
Visual design was great.
Some minor elements of the story were actually great in theory. (Like Seifer's whole story.)

Too bad all of it was buried under god-awful gameplay and even worse storytelling.

The cover made a good coaster.

It has fairly decent replayability for a FF game since you can just break the fuck out of it right from the beginning, and it only gets more broken from there. Moreover, since the plot is so retarded, you can just hammer buttons during any text boxes outside of Laguna scenarios without actually missing anything important or interesting.

>outside of Laguna scenarios
Laguna shit was even worse than Squall shit.

>tech demo

Great intro

What about Omega?

The card game has a good song

>tfw you find out as an adult that Quistis didn't even wear boots, just long pants and regular shoes

Like finding out Santa wasn't real

Junction system was awesome as a concept and its connection to the card game made it pretty unique. Certainly want to see something like it in other FF, only properly balanced so it won't blatantly break the game.

Say one negative thing about FFXIII that isn't just as bad in FFX.

You can't

Fuck you. I'll give more than one.

Great OST.
Cool cinematics (especially the bikers on the Garden battle).
The party was all humans and not cats and lions.
The space section was one of the best.
Weapon upgrades where fun.
Rajin and Fujin + Biggs and the othet dude was always awesome.

what the fuck they were thinking while writing Rinoa and her interactions with Squall
just what the fuck

honestly outside of the junction/broken leveling system and the long ass summon animations it was a great game. music, the world, secrets to find/exploration, story...

FF10 had Lulu's tits.
Checkmate.

The Ragnarok is the objectively best airship in Final Fantasy.

lack of blitzball

Invincible can annihilate it up in a second.

Laguna, Kiros and Ward were fun, colorful characters with levity and agency.

at least its better than ff9

I respectfully disagree.

That box art is nice and clean compared to my 17-year-old retail copy which has dried cum all over the jewel case.

>Hey Squall, did you know the back of Balamb Garden is Jurassic Park?
>No.
>Walk through it with me and I'll tell you something.
>Okay.
>Hundreds of dead dinosaurs
>So what did you want to tell me, Quistis?
>That following this scene I am virtually irrelevant to the plot.
>Whatever.

whatever

Everything positive said in this thread is true. Ive never been able to grasp why some hate 8 so badly. I think its because they started with 7, and when 8 didnt have sephie-kun they shit the bed.

I'd argue that VIII aged the best out of the three, IX's battle system is slow and cancerous and VII is graphically disappointing. VIII strikes a nice balance between the two even if the leveling system is bonkers and the storyline is whack.

...

I can't. It's shit.

It started off really solid, Balamb garden was very comfy and a nice introduction the setting and characters.
Laguna flashbacks were interesting.

The biggest problem was that the "Rebel" part was too emphasized. I get it they wanted to do a thing like in FF7, but in FF7 the whole "Rebels" thing was only emphasized during Midgar. Once you leave Midgar the world is yours.

But FF8 just kept on getting political and assassinations and put so much pressure on you with the plot that I never had a relaxing/exploring time with it.

tl;dr I think the heavy plot/linearity put on too much stress, making the game less enjoyable than the other FFs where you had breathing room.

The card game was the best minigame in final fantasy history.

Don't think I ever beat it. Didn't even remember it existed until you posted that comment. Final Fantasy VIII's complete and utter lack of penultimate and post game content meant I didn't spend much time with it once I could fight Ultimecia.

>enjoying shitzball

Simple pleasures for simple minds.

Lion Heart

I think that 7's world artstyle was embraced by the writers for the game. The overall game has a lot of campy, goofy vibes that works really well with the blocky artstyle. I think if you look past your inital impression and actually play through VII, you forget about it really soon.

Did away with the numbered spell names.

I liked the opening.

I bet you're one of those kweh faggots.

I'll give you the environments for VII, and yes I have played it recently. They certainly nailed the aesthetics of the areas and the music to match.

Squall and Cloud being emo is just a meme created by games they've shown up in that aren't their original games. The fact people say Squall is 'emo' is beyond fucking retarded because there are no depictions of him being 'emo' (unlile Cloud)

Nomura's character designs were great as usual. Same can be said as the only redeeming quality of XIII.

I thought the part where you run from the robot spider on the war ridden island was fun, and I remember Squall would at some point get a giant shrapnell through his chest and suddenly you played a completely different group of characters for some reason

never played any much further, no idea how good/bad would the game get from that point

Omega:
>Triple, haste, shell, protect
>Meltdown
>Spam meteor for a few turns
>Win

Ultima:
>Triple, haste, shell, protect
>Meltdown
>Spam meteor for half an hour
>Win

The design of Laguna's gun really bothers me.

The world has a lot of side content to play with: triple triad, chocobo forests, Bahamut island, monkey forest, monster in the lake, etc. So far, no FF has come close to it in this apartment.
Best limit breaks in the franchise: Zell, Irvine.
Best opening.
Best OST.
youtube.com/watch?v=YB30RVWeuP8
Best world design.
VERY COMFY at some points. It is a world that really makes you want to live in.
Has Quistis.

pic related

also I can see tits anytime I want I have the goddamn internet

I've played better divegrass games on mobile

>corridor simulator: check
>story is incomprehensible shit
>game is 90% menu fuckery
>loads of annoying party members you never fucking use but still fart up cutscenes like they're actually important
>Tidus was Cloud-only-a-girl long before Lightning was
>voice acting straight out of a Canadian C-lister agency's bargain bin

Arguably the easiest superbosses from PS1 era right? Ruby/Emerald and Ozma were far more threatening if you weren't prepared for them.

it's focused on rinoa so it's shit

Lightning.

I have no idea what that means. I've never played a Final Fantasy beyond VI.

it...sucked. it wasn't funny, vii was funny, why can't viii be? the ONLY kinda good thing is "chicken wuss" and how mad Zell got

Lightning is a more interesting girl Cloud than Tidus was

It all comes down to which is your first FF, isn't it?

IX was good desu

>Tidus was Cloud-only-a-girl
Elaborate because those two characters are COMPLETELY different.

Most aesthetic FMVs

I'm assuming the cylindrical end sticking out above his shoulder is the housing for a buffer spring, and not where the ammunition is stored

>Best world design
But that's not FF X user.

my first was 7 and 8 is my favorite.

Yes and no, I guess if you count entire playthroughs as first time played then XIII would be my first even though I'd played a bit of 7/8/9/10 beforehand, and only finished them after I finished XIII.

>Ruby/Emerald

Beat both those. It was honestly just a lot of KOTR, Omnislash and Mime. No idea what Ozma was didn't play that game.

...

go to /vr/, they already answered your question

What a faggot.

Probably. It helps that jucntioning gets your party overpowerd much quicker than grinding in 7 and 9.

which one did you finish first?

In that case, my opinion is objectively better than yours

Nah it's not that. It's just how 'boxy' it looks, the straight handle, and lack of a stock despite it being (I assume) an AR. I know it's a fantasy gun and stuff but it just looks strange.

Ozma was something like a forgotten whatever Aeons were called in IX Eilodeons I think? Looked like a giant marble and had lots of bullshit insta-kill moves iirc.

>spend 30 hours drawing spells

This is much better than grinding levels.

IX was the worst FF of the PS 1 era.
>Shit characters aside Vivi
>Zidane suffers sudden personality change and became edgy at the end
>That last tile of the KWEH game
>Gameplay is the most boring
>Shitty card game
>Empty world
>No side game apart from KWEH
>That last tile of the KWEH game
>Summoning is useless
>There is no point in characters like Amarant
>Most bosses are unmemorable except for tranny
>Music is a huge step down from VIII, there are some good tracks but most of them are meh. Even X has better soundtracks.

I genuinely liked it more than FF7.

Are you talking LV 100 Omega? Because I remember him doing the 9998 attack and being toast.

ff8 had argueably THE best FMVs of any FF ps1 game

Honestly, IX was developed in the same time with X and it shows.
Most of the budget was distributed toward X, it explains the lack of content in IX.

>spend 30 hours drawing spells
nigga what
>spend 2 hours turning cards into spells

I'm here to post Final Fantasy XV.

Balamb Garden is one of the coziest settings ever. Placing Final Fantasy in a mercenary school setting makes for an extremely memorable Disc 1.

>ever grinding in FF7, ever

you can finish the game at like level 40 if you know how the game actually works

squall was a relateable and charming character

>spend 30 hours drawing spells
What? If you do this, you are doing it wrong mate.
There are two ways to get spells fast in the game
1) Transmute cards
2) The island closest to HELL/Heaven or whatever
At the beginning, you only need 99 of basic spells to carry you through 3/4 of the game, as long as you don't level up any character.
