Why is the game so fucking grindy and have a ridiculous learning curve.

And holiday events, and standalone spinoff game, and DLC.
And has only sold several million...of a game that will never be finished.

Horrendously optimized and the dev released a fucking paid expansion pack for an EARLY ACCESS GAME that isn't even close to completion yet.

Makes absolute sense to me when it is an entirely new map rather than updated game mechanics. It's either this or have level designers twiddling their thumbs for half a year while the programmers are fixing the 90000 technical hurdles involved with making games of Ark's scope.

I don't own the game but I'd assume anyone who's played enough to care was probably already bored of the base edition's map.

So what's good about this game?
I have had the base version sitting on my steam account since last christmas, but I don't have time to try it.

It's 60gb in size

I've already played enough hours of ARK for me to think it was a good purchase
100 hours completely spent playing with friends, and some good memories were had

Shame. I would enjoy a good time sink if I had time to sink. Growing up sucks. What's the core gameplay loop like, at high levels? Do you need a clan/guild/corp/whatever to play properly or can you grind solo?

Why wouldn't a new map be a free update to the game that is still in fucking development.
