To the six and a half of you who still know this series exists, why the hell would Bungie ever hand over the halo series to 343?
>also do you think the series will survive till we reach Halo 6?

Because Bungie didn't want to work on Halo anymore, and it showed in Reach, since it was fucking garbage. 4 was also total garbage, but in a different way than Reach. 5 was an actual improvement to the multiplayer formula and is the most fun the game's been since 3 or 2. Campaign and new lore are complete fucking disappointments though.
Reach was the best in the series eat shit
Because they ended their contract with Microsoft after Reach and wanted to move to "new projects".
The "new project" is boring and 343 ruined Halo 3's perfect ending.
This. It's a mixed bag, with good support, but they need to fire Brian Reed for anything to improve. And a better art direction. The game is sickening to look at, even at 60 fps.
This isn't a bad opinions thread, user
Halo 5 plays smooth as silk. Going back to pure arena combat as well incorporating multiple warzone variations keep me returning to this first person shooter.
Then maybe you should've never entered to begin with.
>Halo 5 plays smooth as silk
Not with the shitty aim acceleration it doesn't
Halo with Bungie was a steady decline, with each title getting worse.
Halo with 343 has only been improvement, with actual patches on a semi-regular basis.
hmm...
Reach was fucking awful and a terrible swan song for Bungie. To this day I still want to know whose fucking idea it was to have us play as a bunch of literally whos instead of the actual SPARTAN-IIs we read about in Fall of Reach.
Multiplayer was an even bigger disappointment, and if it weren't for the existence of 4, would easily take the title of worst multiplayer in the series.
really makes me think
I'm glad I am not the only one who thinks Reach is good.
the novels aren't canon anyway
Oh you're a typical salty bookworm fag.
Reach was perfect. You just sucked at it.
I actually enjoyed reach
Why?
Because it was a great game?
Reach was low-skill garbage, and I was great at it.
Why was it a great game?
I loved Reach, if only for the forge. Then again I only really played reach for invasion, infection, and forge with RL friends.
I'm on my phone and don't feel like writing it out.
Just adjust it dumbass
>mobileposter likes reach
Pottery.
Reasons people hate reach:
muh multiplayer
muh books
>playing a console shooter for pvp
>reading videogame books
It doesn't remove the acceleration you faggot
>playing videogames for the story
this is what bungcucks actually believe.
Reach's only saving grace was the custom games and those were worse than halo 3's.
>reading HALO books and actually caring about them
How's the wizardry going for you user?
343 turned Halo aesthetics into Evangelion aesthedicks. It's fine if you like animu, but fuck don't put animu where animu does not beling. Bungie were a bunch of turboweebs but they made Halo into something else. The shift in the art direction starting from Halo 4 was jarring as fuck. Might as well make a new game. Oh wait, 343 can't and they HAD to ride Halo's coattails to get their "unique" take on spess shootan out in the open.
I liked the characters and the team, I also liked the missions, I thought they were really fun. It emotionally captured me
>press button:the game on linear-ass levels where most of the combat can be skipped entirely
Okay.
>343 Halo
>that campaign
>multiplayer was even good. not better than 3, but still good
>improved forge
Fuck your opinion is shit, Reach is one of the best in the franchise
Then adjust it until it's comfortable for you, that's why the dead zone / acceleration adjustments are there.
>I liked the characters and the team
never4get
Kat deserved it
>multiplayer was good
lmfao you scrub
Except no aim acceleration is comfortable for me but that's not an option

>343homos trying to derail the thread
This is a 343 hate thread
The wrong decision was trying to revive Halo. Companies need to learn when their franchises need to end.
I really hope, for example, that no further games are done in KH after KH3.
The multiplayer was only good after 343's patch.
I'm out, this thread is too much for me.
You probably couldn't reach 1.0 KDA fgt.
I'm ready for your amazing argument on why reach's multi was not even par for the series.
>reach shitters truly think their game was good
remember when bungie lied about not being able to patch the game and also had a rank cap for like 3 months after release so people could "catch up"
>bungiecucks upset that nobody likes reach
>Reach was fucking awful and a terrible swan song for Bungie. To this day I still want to know whose fucking idea it was to have us play as a bunch of literally whos instead of the actual SPARTAN-IIs we read about in Fall of Reach.
>I didn't play whom I wanted to play therefore the game sucks
What a dumb fucking meme.
Reach's campaign was pretty boring but it's MP was based as fuck.
LMAO if you actually believe this.
>1-dimensional characters slowly being killed off
>you already know everyone will die, including the player, as the opening implies
>Cortana is now forerunner tech
>brutes and drones on reach
>started the trend of differentiating enemies by armor design rather than color with maybe a couple bells and whistles for higher ups
>shitty washed out palette
>ARMOR ABILITIES, the biggest fucking mistake the franchise made
>maybe it wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for FUCKING SPRINT
>now you have maps designed to accommodate sprint and the abilities even though they were optional, leading to poor map design
>BLOOM, who the fuck thought this was a good idea? You're still a spartan-III for fucks sake, not a regular marine. Weapons aren't pinpoint accurate in Halo anyways, so why the fuck would you introduce BLOOM?
The music of course is amazing, and the customization and menu UI were great as well, firefight didn't feel as tense as ODST, but at least it was now fully customizable and matchmaking, but man Reach was disappointing. I don't even know what 343 did with their update for it because I was so let down with the multi after the honeymoon phase that after I reached Lt. Col rank and got 1000/1000 GS that fall I stopped playing.
Reach's campaign was awful. It teases you with these big budget cutscenes that look like you're about to have a massive vehicle battle unlike anything you've seen in a Halo game, and then you turn off from the main fight and go shoot squads of fuckfaces in the hills.
Or you're supposed to be evacuating panicking civilians against Brutes and it seems like a tense situation that would be really memorable, if the lighting wasn't awful and the brutes didn't look and play like retards. Chieftains didn't ever actually use their Gravity Hammers, they just sort of swung them at you like a club.
Or when the game throws TWO FUCKING SCARABS at you, (the only scarabs that actually appear in the game mind you) only to have you completely ignore them and do nothing to them. I'm not even sure if they'll actually fire at you if you wait around.
The only moment in the game where the gameplay satisfactorily fits with the story context is at the end where you're just fighting to survive. Everything else feels like it was originally really ambitious but Bungie had to cut the meat of it out to actually fit it into the game.
Oh, and the cutscenes are physically painful to look at with all that motion blur. Seriously, go watch Jorge jump from your Sabre to the Pelican in Long Night of Solace, and laugh at the 20 fps slideshow while he floats over the planet.
Cheif's flashlight in Halo 1 was technically an armor ability, and Arbiter's camo in H2. :^)
>ODST above 3
Armor abilities made enemy encounters unbalanced and made players have to commit to dealing with random bullshit. Fights boiled down to who had armor lock or who had sprint to eat damage or run away to let your shields recharge.
Bloom and DMR ruined the game, Pistol as a utility is worthless when the majority of the matchmaking modes started with DMR starts. Especially in Arena.
Maps sucked outside of the remakes and powerhouse.
Forge was good but all the maps bled together with that awful gray and green.
>Thinking New Bungie, the faggots that made Reach and Destiny, would've been a better fate
Kill yourself
I appreciate all of the sensible people in the thread who willingly acknowledge Reach to be what it is: a fucking atrocious game and bottom 3 Halo titles.
honestly I'm kinda hyped for Forge to come to PC
This video sums it up very well
youtube.com
Reminder that Reach was the weakest, except in art direction, of all the Bungie-era Halos
Reminder that 343 had a hand in creating Reach
>really makes you think
Would anyone here be willing to play a match of ODST Firefight? I could boot my 360 just for that. Fucking love that shit.
You forgot that Bungie nerfed almost every player trait so that AAs would seem like more attractive options. Lower jump height so that Jetpack seems like a good idea, slow walk speed so that sprint is encouraged, powerful grenades with short fuses for armor lock, no powerups on map for camo, etc.
>Campaign fluff
>Camo had always been a power up players had to fight for instead of starting the game with cloak...until Reach.
>he can't handle the variables thrown by armor abilities
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA bet you hate armor lock too scrub
> Fights boiled down to who had armor lock or who had sprint to eat damage or run away to let your shields recharge.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA
literally GIT GUD
I thought the art in Reach was okay, certainly better than anything 343 has made
343 did nothing with Reach until title update 1.02, which made the game less of a shitshow.
Too bad everyone abandoned Reach cause it was shit by then.
>reachfags
Too bad it has the worst maps in the entire franchise and revolves around the pistol like the CE tryhards demanded.
>arena maps are lockout-tier, easy to spawn trap/camp
>no proper BTB maps, remake of Sandtrap is complete fucking shit
>shitty art style and armor design
>90% of the armor is just reskins
>missing gamemodes like Oddball, Juggernaut, King of the hill, Regicide, Stockpile, Headhunter, BTB Assault, Muilti-team
>no veto or vote system for matchmaking
Only thing that saves it from being complete shit is the gunplay and character movement being good.
>remember when bungie lied about not being able to patch the game
Except they didn't. Bungie stood by Reach in the face of a very vocal section of the community.
343i then released a janky as fuck, hack tier patch that no one played because the people who didn't like Reach were never going to play Reach.
>reachfags
>he bought a 360 first
>literally Halo 3 was his first Halo game
>pretends to be mad about MCC because it doesn't have Reach
Kill yourself friend.
>1-dimensional characters slowly being killed off
in Reach's defense, the characters were more than 1-dmensional. They have as much characterization as the ODST's in Halo 3:ODST
the caveat was you had to use external sources to flesh them out
You say this like people sucked at Reach, but of all the Halo games, Reach was the easiest to cheese people out. Gitting gud in Reach is not necessary, because both skill ceiling and floor were at ground level.
Forgetting the other games for a minute, anybody else here really like 4 but hate 5? 3 was my favorite of the series, and 4 took me a long time to get used to, but after that it became my second favorite after 3. 5 is an absolute pile of dogshit. They fucked up all the weapons and their ranges and reticles, and it just has no soul. The whole game is fucking garbage and it makes me mad.
1 = 2 = 3/ODST > Reach > 5 > 4
Weren't the foerunners and humans supposed to be technically the same thing? What the fuck is this whole ANCIENT HUMAN EMPIRE shit?
All these Reachfags
>343 did nothing with Reach until title update 1.02, which made the game less of a shitshow.
They were shadowing Bungie and at that time was more or less a separate entity from Bungie.
343 was initially created as Microsoft's "Halo Company" since they figured with the massive success of the Halo franchise it warranted a separate body to take care of it.
343 was basically a glorified babbysitter who later fancied itself as a thing that could make good video games.
They were wrong
>Weren't the foerunners and humans supposed to be technically the same thing?
No, they never were the same thing.
see halo 3
Maps are bad, yeah.
BTB is for Autists who like to make the cars go fast
343 art is bad (I like the Gundam ass armor)
Oddball, KOTH, BTB Assault (lmao), Multi Team is in
Map veto is the worst thing to happen to MP games since matchmaking in general.
...
so why the salt over AL? The salt was overwhelming they had to remove it in 4
Really? Wow. I'd actually use the exact same argument, specifically about the lack of soul, for 4. I'd argue that 4's weapon balance and gunplay might have actually been the worst the series has ever been, and 5 is actually the best it's ever been, especially in terms of balance and how each gun feels. You honestly couldn't pay me to play 4 again, but I still go back to 5 fairly often.
> Cortana is now Forerunner tech
What on earth are you talking about? Cortana and Halsey found coordinates for what turned out to be Halo from the Forerunner relic under Reach. Cortana is still a human construct as always.
> Brutes and Drones on Reach
Let me guess, this is bad because it wasn't mentioned in Fall of Reach?
At least Reach didn't have fucking WALLHACK
NIGGA YOU GOT A RADAR THAT AINT DISABLED WHY GIVE A WALLHACK ABILITY?!?!
literally fanfiction tier
because its a get out of jail free card for everything
>BUT JUST WAIT AROUND THERE FOR 7 SECOND AND IT GOES AWAY
and by that time there's his teammate shooting at you and you have to bail
and your SHIELDS COULD RECHARGE WHILE IN ARMOR LOCK WHAT A FUCKING HORRIBLE IDEA
no
sure, the story sucks
but literally everything else is top tier
no we have ancient american indians. Apparently the forerunners got smashed by the former (but only because it was cleansing flood presence) and smashed back. After they finished smashing each other the flood rekt them both so the forerunners had to delete everything.
same guy. you know I actually kind of agree.
If I had a dollar for each time I said that armor lock ruined a fight I'd have 1k. I'm also guilty of abusing sprint in the way you described.
weapon bloom never felt ruining to me. In fact at times I found it more reliable than the dmr with the rate of fire at close ranges. Just never bothered me the way it seemed to bother others.
yeah outside of powerhouse I can't really remember the maps off the top of my head but I don't also remember hating any of the maps either except for spire . Maybe that kind of sums up Reach's mp for me, fun but forgettable.
pallet never really bothered me either, people complained about 3 being shiny as fuck but now it's too grey? I get they were trying for a different atmosphere and I liked it.
I still think the campaign was really well done. I've had a blast on Reach a bunch of times
If I had to rate at the moment I'd say 2>3>Reach>ODST>1(yes I get it defined it's era and fps and it's a masterpiece)>5>4 just in general, if we were doing it by campaign and multi the list would be much different
>also do you think the series will survive till we reach Halo 6?
Jesus Christ OP, it's true that Halo's going through some shit, but it's FAR from being so worn-out.
Halo 6 is a given.
>because its a get out of jail free card for everything
only if you're up against a moron who dives into everything without anyone backing him up
>that one retard who doesn't wait for the rest of the team and gets rekt by an AL'ing scrub
he deserved it.
Actually the reason was that the Humans encountered the Flood first, started getting bodied, began running into Forerunner territory to get away from them, inadvertently started a war with the Forerunners, who didn't believe the Flood existed. Humans eventually "fight off" the Flood (turns out the Flood chose to stop murdering them all, since they were formally the precursors and wanted the Humans to take over the Mantle. They then focused the Forerunners and rocked their faces, which of course lead Forerunners to hit the universal reset button.
To be fair I have always been a BR fag and in Halo 3 & 4 I was always good because of that. Now in 5 the BR's reticle has been shrunk and the AR's range and damage extended so my BR fagging doesn't work anymore. That's probably a huge reason I hate 5.
>5 days until Sup Forums halo 5 custom game lobbies on PC
>If I had a dollar for each time I said that armor lock ruined a fight I'd have 1k.
>ruined
You mean outskilled
> I'm also guilty of abusing sprint in the way you described.
>abusing
You mean properly utilizing
I meant
>I found the pistol to be more reliable than the dmr with the rate of fire at close ranges
and
>I can remember Spire off the top of my head
Ah. I've been the opposite and always destroyed BR shitters with some decent circle strafing and an AR. Which was why I was extremely happy with 5, since they balanced automatics and precision guns better than any previous Halo title, 343 or Bungie.
That was exactly what that post was saying. Space native americans literally did nothing wrong.
>give away their own IP to microsoft
>say they want to do something new
>their "new" thing is basically a knockoff chinese halo mmo
aside from how fuckin retarded whatever plan they had was, it's worth noting that neither Nu Halo or Destiny are very good games.
this reminds me of how Itagaki left Team Ninja in 2008 to make his own studio and now neither Team Ninja or his new studio has made a single decent game during the past 8 years.
Humans and forerunners were slinging shit at eachother a long while before the flood even became a thing, being invasive and generally being little shits while Forerunners thought they were high and mighty of the galaxy which fucked them over.
H5 BR has so much auto-aim it's complete easy mode, has a much tighter spread and hitscan. Shits all over the H3 BR.
I get what you're saying but think less about how these things were in the game, and more about if these things made it more or less fun.
By ruin a fight I mean I'm about to secure a kill and this guy armor locks, it may just give his buddies time to help him out or just delay the inevitable. In the end I see it as a time waster
And as for sprint I guess it's about perspective
