B/W 2 Stretched sprites and weather teams I guess, FR/LG is overrated af, Kanto games are pretty boring, Emerald isn't perfect either, no physical/special split. Platinum and HG/SS were the best games in the series, despite when going back to them the battling is a tad bit slow.

It made some bad conventions that no one thinks about because they've been accepted throughout the series, including random encounters, the inability to evolve Gengars and the like solo, and the fact that fully evolved Pokemon vary wildly in terms of usability.

Of all the types in the game, rock for the first gym was probably the worst choice because it resists normal, flying, and in practice electric. Charmander players have very few options for beating Brock. Today we all know the game well enough to bypass this, but when this shit came out you were lucky if you knew the type chart, let alone where to catch Mankeys.

Not being able to return to earlier areas after passing Mt. Moon was not great.

A lot of Gen 1 Pokemon were objectively shitty. Jynx was the primary offender but there are plenty of others that would be held up as examples of how Pokemon has gone to shit had they been revealed today instead of existing in Gen 1.

They are though, don't you read the news? There's data for IVs in Pokémon Go and IIRC they confirmed compatibility at E3 too

Remakes fixed this slightly by having Charmander learn Metal Claw which makes Brock very easy.

They lost all the appeal BW had and crammed tons of old Pokemon in there. the story is god-awful as always, the only real reason to even look at BW2 were the new egg moves and move tutors.

All Geodude and Onix will do to you offensively is Tackle and Bide, Ember still does decent damage despite being resisted due to their awful special stats. You're at a disadvantage but its really not much of one, it just takes an extra turn or two to KO his Pokemon.

And Yellow fixed it anyway by allowing you to catch a Mankey near Viridian and both Nidoran learned Double Kick at level 12 instead of 40-something like they did in R/B.

Focus energy has one job, to increase critical hit chance. It decreases critical hit chance.

To be fair, even when it does function properly it's almost always a useless move and a waste of a slot.

This, replaying Black now, the Unova only dex is refreshing, Cheren/Bianca > Hugh, better looking Protags and IMO better story although both games are far and away the best story of any pokemon games.

That's because the story is actually a story outside "beat all the gyms and OH NO EVIL TEAM BEAT THEM UP".

What makes Platinum outright better than Emerald?

They're both good, but the Sinnoh region's main game is just sluggish and outright boring at times to me compared to how quickly things move along in Hoenn.

Emerald had more bang for its buck with its Battle Frontier anyways

How the fuck is being "sluggish" a bad thing? Do you want fewer places to explore? Fewer people to battle? Less complicated landscapes? Stop playing RPGs.

Platinum stands out more because of how much it improves on DP, it elevates the second worst games of the series to an almost unanimous top 5. Whereas Emerald improves games that were already good so it's less noticeably great.

I can never decide between the 2 but I personally normally give it to Plat because Sinnoh is my fav region.

Emerald had lots with the Mirage Tower, Trainer Hill, Two of the Sevii Islands, Team Magma getting their own hideout, Terra/Marine Caves, Expanded Safari Zone, and Faraway Island.
