I know this is fake but I could see Sony making another handheld if only so they could start charging their Japanese customers for PS+ to use online. Vita is the only current hold out that doesn't require PS+ that doesn't have a successor.

To be fair, it took years to break it, and Vita's pretty close to end of its cycle too. Reminder that it first came out in 2011.
Also, all the competitors were broken even sooner.
For whatever it's worth, Vita's security was genuinely really good. But even it could not fully counteract the giant gaping exploit generator that is Webkit.

The R3/L3 buttons under the sticks was too far when Sony literally made a patent for a portable with clickable sticks back in January.

Same shit happened with the DS.

Falcom was so butthurt with Ys' sales that they never released another title for Nintendo's consoles.

All getting rid of select did was just make everyone use the touchpad as a giant select button which is really dumb.

. Wiiu was a fail because of many reason, still got really good games and I think getting at least the games you want for a nintendo console (kart, smash, zelda, 3d mario etc.) + some real good underdogs is better than having a vita and never getting a game for it.
