More games like this? I've really only played through Quake II, Half Life, and Serious Sam TFE but have a huge itch for the genre now. Oh and Doom and Chex Quest, forgot to mention those.
Classic FPS
>Oh and Doom and Chex Quest, forgot to mention those.
>mentions them
>"forgot to mention" them
What
hexen 2, turok 2
Unreal, Hexen, Duke 3D
>Oh and Doom and Chex Quest, forgot to mention those.
Blood is amazing
Heretic, Hexen, Hexen 2
Soldier of Fortune, Soldier of Fortune 2
RtCW
Dark Forces and Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight
Blood, Shadow Warrior, Duke Nukem 3D.
Heretic, Hexen, Hexen 2
Doom64 EX
Unreal
You can also try Redneck Rampage, Star Wars Dark Forces, Terminator: Future Shock, Outlaws, Exhumed/Powerslave.
You have no idea the hours of fun that await you.
Hard Reset is literally modern Quake 2
All those games are meh. Just play Doom. even doom is whatever
>Steam version of quake II doesn't include the soundtrack
>Instead it uses whatever audio is on the CD in your cd/dvd drive.
>When I first played it I heard pic related instead of that glorious soundtrack
If you just mean late '90s and early 2000s FPS, play No One Lives Forever. Also play Blood and Heretic.
All of those games are better than Doom. Also play Quake 1 OP
You should play the two official Quake 2 addons and Xearo too.
Excellent sets of levels.
Painkiller
...
Hahaha. I actually used to do that a lot for shits and giggles.
...
IT'S JUST YOU AND ME, MINER
hard reset or maybe metro series
all other games i know are already mentioned above.
does blood has a source port? when doom quake blood duke were newly released blood and duke were my favorite especially blood, didn't really cared about doom but too bad blood just lost in shadows
>does blood has a source port
No sourceport for blood but you can play it just fine in DOSbox with BMOUSE.exe for freelook.
Heretic is pretty underrated
I liked Heretic a lot more than HeXen.
Heretic, Hexen 1 and 2, Unreal Gold, No One Lives Forever, Powerslave.
Hell play through Halo 1 and 2 PC on heroic difficulty just to see if you like them.
My knigga
I remember the Halo port being pretty shit.
Backtracking across levels based on vague hints sucks.
Both games had forced auto aim even if you used a mouse and no quicksave checkpoints, but are still fairly fun to play.
Halo CE's netcode is awful and Halo 2's was ok at best.
Why not play Quake which is way better than Quake 2 in every possible way?
Is the first Quake worth playing through now? I've put hundreds of hours into Doom but never bothered with any Quake single player.
Of course it is, now more than ever with all these bland as fuck FPS. It has hundreds of excellent SP maps too.
Personally I wouldn't say it's as good as Quake2 but it's definitely worth playing through.
Play it with Quakespasm, turn off texture filtering and the rocket launcher is going to be your best friend.
shadow warrior redux (dont play the new versions they are awful)
how the fuck could they lose the source code?
don't h8 me m8s but i think enemies in first Quake are too tough
i love how in Quake 2 you can wreck anything with Super Shotgun and in Q1 you don't feel that power
You can edit posts.
I found Quake 2 on hard was too easy, Quake 1 had more of a challenge and it's atmosphere was top notch. Quake 2 has a great soundtrach though.
iirc it's locked up in Atari's computers or something since they published it.
Not only that, but only 3 weapons was kinda lame.
Also Heretic had a lot more color, which really made it stand out in my mind
I play arena shooter, I have beaten Doom on nightmare, yada yada yada but Blood always, ALWAYS kicks my ass. I don't feel any agility in this game. Is this normal?
WAIT!
I HATE ULTOR TOO!
>I don't feel any agility in this game
wat
You run fast as fuck in Blood. Learn to take advantage of explosives for tightly grouped enemies.
idk it wasn't that hard for me
Shadow Warrior on the other hand...
No co-op campaign support which was really the only interesting part of Halo for me.
Caleb is rather 'sluggish' and more floaty compared to Dook or Doomguy. It's certainly different. Also lots of hitscan assholes.
Crudux Cruo!
I hate Atari
I just don't understand what happened with this game.
> innovative new technology -- blow up walls!
> a few usable areas in the early levels
> ...
> completely forget said technology exists in their own damn game
> sequels don't even bother to build on geo-mod.
... was there something added to the water or what?
Should I give Soldier of Fortune another shot? Gave it a try a few years back and it didn't click but I only got past the first level.
Am I the only one to have found Hard Reset to be really bad? It just dragged way too long, the shooting didn't feel satisfying, movement was SLOW AS SHIT, the weapons were boring and there were like 3 types of enemies.
Level design was COD tier of linear too
Does Blood have the most satisfying shotgun of any game?
None of these "oldschool" shooters feel very oldschool to me.
>Should I give Soldier of Fortune another shot?
yes
>Am I the only one to have found Hard Reset to be really bad?
no, i didn't even like the demo version
>Quake 1 is better than Q2
This mod (mappack) also makes it 10x better:
quaddicted.com
>FEAR
>NOLF
>Painkiller: Black Edition
>Rune Classic
>Sin Episodes: Emergence
>WGRealms II
>Max Payne
Is it just me or did a lot of early 2000s shooters have stealth mechanics? SoF, NOLF, and RtCW all have it to some extent.
Anything play as fast as Return to Castle Wolfenstein? I've played a few of these in the thread but none were as fast.
Oh, and not to forget:
>Clive Barker's Undying
How is RtcW level design? Is it more similar to Doom/Duke/Blood or is it more linear like Quake 2?
>Return to Castle Wolfenstein
>fast
u wot m8?
Try Quake.
If that isn't fast enough for you, play instagib Cube 2: Sauerbraten.
It's linear but most levels are fairly wide and open so you can move around a bit.
Did you play SOF yet?
I remember there being a healthy mix of big open maps you could sneak around in and tight corridors full of those annoying electric nazi monsters. It's pretty linear.
yeah, definitely play Quake I if you haven't, very very cool game
some user posted it yesterday
youtube.com
Redneck Rampage
Daikatana
Shadow Warrior
Opera Mod for Half-Life
oh shit nigger this looks good as a motherfucker
they nailed the movement and aesthetics
Half-Life had a lot of god tier SP mods. I'm debating on pirating the WON edition to remove valve's changes and bring back things like leaning and direct3D mode.
I can't remember the name (it was something like Qube but it wasn't Q.U.B.E.) but there was a "classic" game that was released just a few years ago/is still in development. I remember in the trailer you were jumping on these wide pillars. Something had to do with your hand. Anyone know it?
holy shit I want this
Soldier of Fortune? nah not yet I'll have to look that one up.
Felt pretty fast to me man. I was hopping all over the place blasting Nazis like crazy.
>Redneck Rampage
Great taste.
>that part at around 30 where he gets launched in the air and starts shooting down
>character starts flipping upside down instead of just staring at your feet
Did anyone notice this? Holy shit.
Marathon
Marathon Durandal
Marathon Infinity
yeah, it fucked my head
Give Kingpin a try
What is this game? Trying to google it and I'm not finding a page anywhere for it besides this video.
idk much about it desu
here's devs site ironsnowflakes.blogspot.com
DON'T SHOOT IM ON YOUR SIDE!
I can't believe I even remember that shit.
PC games were so visceral back then because they weren't intended for mainstream audiences.
Remember Bad Mojo and Kingpin: Life of Crime?
Who doesn't fucking remember fucking Kingpin, you motherfucking asshole? Fuck you!
enemies look kinda lame
I love how the dialogue mechanic in Kingpin is totally binary.
You can either say "yes" or "fuck you" with increasing levels of hostility.
When you think about it, those developers were years ahead of Bethesda and Fallout 4.
Let's not forget this part, which is one of the greatest moments in gaming history.
bethesda games are "yes" or "no (yes)"
I fucking love this game. Hilarious shit.
HUNNH
What are the best user made TCs for these FPS games? Poke646 was great.
bump
DooM (2016) is the closest thing to DooM since DooM 2
Quake 3 Arena remains one of the best multiplayer games of all history
Halo CE and Halo 2 are two of the best FPS ever
Return To Castle Wolfenstein remains in my Top 3 to this day
I disagree on all fronts.
Doom 4 is closer to Painkiller than Doom 1 and 2.
Quake 3 is great, aye, though CPMA is the definitive experience.
Halo sucks.
RTCW is great.
Not yet.
Be patient.
And vewwy vewwy qwiet, Atari are cunts.
Tribes was the best Multiplayer FPS of all time.
Said "one of". Didn't say the best, even Halo 2 is up there at the top (although if I had to pick between it's campaign and it's mp I'd take the campaign)
Haven't played Tribes though, guess I'll put it in the list
Anyone else miss the screen tilting when you strafe in quake engine games?
The Aliens one for doom is pretty good.
Heart of Evil, They Hunger, and Afraid of Monsters: DC are all pretty fun.
Also Paranoia
