Run around completing arbitrary tasks to stop the villain

>Run around completing arbitrary tasks to stop the villain
>Finally complete them
>Villain shows up
>"HAHA THANKS FOR DOING ALL THAT YOU IDIOTS NOW MY PLAN IS COMPLETE!"

isn't this basically the plot of The Watchmen?

Name 5 game that do this

Tales of vesperia kind of

Is she died?

Bioshock

Nier.

MGS
FF6
Golden Sun
Persona 3
MK Deception

Metal Gear Solid

Mother 3
Baten Kaitos
FFVIII

Any fucking game since you always let the final boss unleash his final weapon due to gameplay purposes. Though you get this scenario regardless you speedrun the game or fool around for days.

But in Baten Kaitos is justified because Kalas wanted power and he got it.

>Holy shit a witch from the future is trying to compress time!
>How should we stop her?
>Let's compress time!

Should have just fucking slit Ellone's throat and smashed the machine based on her brain waves and had done with it.

Ocarina of Time
Viewtiful Joe 2
Shantae
Shantae: Risky's Revenge
Final Fantasy IV (I think)

OP's image would make a really good enemy type in a survival horror game.

It's a sculpture at a water park. Just the images alone makes me nope instantly.

Not really. The protags didn't do shit to help the villain complete his plans. He already achieved what he wanted in the background while the protags were dicking around trying to figure out what was even happening.

God I hate Quentin

>FFXIV weeping city
>fight your way through the pyramid to obtain mcguffin
>cutscene
>oh geez I sure hope nothing bad happens now that we removed the only security measures keeping the voidspawn away from the mcguffin
>this fucking asshole from a dozen patches ago shows up
>fucking knew it
>tries to ransom this idiot pirate lady for the mcguffin
>rather than hand over the mcguffin, we use it to tear this fucker a new asshole
Thank fuck the npcs didn't choose to be retarded for this cutscene and the villain just so happened to be a literal saturday morning cartoon villain.

Did you collect those crystals, Sup Forums?

FFXIV really stepped up the writing in HW, even the shit I called early went down in fresher ways than I expected, I think the only thing that went down EXACTLY how everyone predicted was Not-Kain going double Nidhogg.

>Where the Airy Lies

>Find out the villain's location
>March into his lair to defeat him
>"I wanted you here because I want to possess you!"

That image is so fucking unnerving.

SOMA. It should be an enemy in SOMA.

Too bad Alphinaud exists and you are forced to have ice bitch help you
All I wanted in Heavensward was to purge dragon scum and they ended up making me turn on the one kingdom who could do that

Looks a lot like Akers.

>villain is an NPC at the beginning of the game
>you can kill him and immediately get the ending cutscene by manipulating his AI into attacking invincible NPC villagers who fight back against him

Literally Enderal's plot except we all knew what we were doing but did it anyway

Seriously, what is going on with this image.

>get a key material SUPER SUPER SUPER fucking important to the main storyline
>give it to that one untrust-worthy party member
>what could go wrong

>it all comes tumbling down

Oblivion dark brotherhood quest

Name 20 (twenty) games that don't do this

Pretty much. Though almost more 'the villains never did a bloody thing, it was all you all along just like in every cycle'.
I really liked it and it was a pretty huge twist for me, though. It kinda helped that everyone had motives that sort of made sense, except for the evil atheists. Was half-way to agreeing with Tealor's conclusion too, but I figured since it was a video game there had to be another option and wanted to see what it would be.
