I just got this game on recommendation by a friend. He said it's one of the best rpgs in years. He also recommended me Dragon Age Origins which I was hesitant to play because of the combat, but I ended up really enjoying it.
I had a trouble with Dragon Age at the start, but with this game I am really finding it difficult.
I am not that far but I am dying all the time so I have to reload. My party is Wizard and Rogue. I left Cyseal north just to explore and ran into lvl 3 skeletons. The only reason I won is because I got close to the gate and the guards saved me. I proceeded north some more and ran into a group of 6 skeletons, some meele, some mages and I got owned. Reloaded 3 times and I cant beat them.
What am I doing wrong? I seem to take a lot of damage and the damage I deal is pathetic! I always put my rogue in sneak and try to go for backstab, but somehow his stealth breaks and enemies hit him first. For my wizard, I do oil to slow them and try to burn them. They usually get out of the oil though because i have to get close just to get an attack in.
Any help?
Jayden Russell
What you're doing wrong is that you haven't explored in the city. Why do you only have 2 party members? Do quests you fuck, read dialogue and shit.
Oliver Hill
Sounds like you don't have two more party members.
Go pick up the crazy grandma from the bar and there's a hunter chick in a cage near the soldier's HQ you can recruit as well.
Also remember that you can buff before battle and run into combat with them up, but you'll lose 1-2 turns on those buffs but not have to spend AP to use them in-battle.
Scrolls are YOUR FRIEND. Special arrows ARE ESPECIALLY YOUR FRIEND.
a bow with a stun chance on it is really good, just remember that stuns make electrical fields that also stun and stuff
I was Level 4 before I ran out the northwest gate with two party members and loaded with scrolls and special arrows.
Ayden Evans
You should listen to the guards at the gate when they say you're too weak to go out there.
Julian Nguyen
Undead have no eyes, user. They can see through stealth.
Anthony Powell
I think I explored the whole city. I went the crime scene, got ported and met Zixzax. I went to Esmeralda's shop and found her house key, but couldn't find the house. Thought it might be outside the city. Went to the Legion boss after meeting Zixzax and I couldn't update him on any information.
Been using lots of scrolls that I find. Should I buy more? I don't have an archer char so no one to use a bow iwth.
they never said that lol.
Trolling or serious? If serious thats cool I guess.
Mason Johnson
>they never said that lol. Bullshit. I played this game for like 2 hours or so and never even left the city. The guards most definitely do say that you're too much of a bitch to go outside. They very clearly warn you. They also do tell you to get more party members, although I can't remember how they worded it.
Lincoln Morgan
Well sounds like I need more party members if I wasn't doing combat wrong.
There is a talent though that makes it so you get bonuses by not having another party member. So it must be possible to beat the game with your original 2 chars?
Parker Scott
It's probably possible, but you have to keep in mind that this is not Dragon Age. This is a D&D derivative. Stuff like that is NOT going to work out unless you understand what you're doing.
Thomas Torres
>mandatory perception checks >insane RNG shit if you're melee or ranged until mid-game when you cheese craft quadruple +str/dex accessories >gives you worse directions than morrowind's journal >combat is literally wow arena v99 (either you or the enemy is 99% stunned/frozen, and obviously that's the losing side) >simple crafted gear is 99% of the time better than even the rare drops from bosses >considering everything has insane costs and you vendor shit for 1/10th original value, youll be crafting all your staves, swords and bows
finished it once, was pretty dumb
Bentley Thomas
They REALLY nerfed lone wolf/glass cannon which were for people doing solo runs.
it's now way harder to beat than with 4 members.
enjoy being perma CCd. especially if you're playing enchanced edition where they ramped up the AI and added moves/boss conditions.
Juan Price
yeah your right this more D&D like the first Baldurs gate. I really didnt like that game and I tried so hard.
hmm sounds like you were not a fan. I want to play it coop with a friend. I started it myself just to see how it was.
gotcha. game has been out for 2 years so I am sure a lot has changed in patches. I don't usually go solo I was just curious.

I've been mostly rolling with a rogue, wizard (fire, water and 1 point in earth for oil on demand) and Jahan + Madora. When combat starts buff up rogue. I ussually use oath of desecration, that man at arms damage stance, fleet footed (so he doesn't get affected by surfaces and groundfire) and fast track. Then I turn him invisible and put him into onto a priority target, either annoying casters or rangers , melee guys come last. Takes one turn to kill a guy then if you have spare points and you stand in nobodys vision cone use stealth and repeat (speed creeper is very much needed).
Adrenaline is often also very useful to squeeze some etra damage into a turn which can decide the battle. Battering Ram skill is very useful for early on mobility and escaping attacks of opportunity.
Also take into consideration that crafting gives you the best equipment in the game, collect gear which gives you to blacksmithing+crafting and put some points into them on Jahan for example.
Noah Butler
Oh and I forgot, clas cannon is essential for this, you need as many points as possible every turn, getting hit should rarely happen.
Parker Fisher
ok thanks for the tips.
Should I be buying crafting receipes or do you find them a lot?
Also question about healing. Most fights that I win, I only have around 50-60% hp left. The food I find restores a paltry amount, like 5% eating a tomato. Is it better to spend my gold on potions or port back after every fight and sleep on a bed?
I tried experimenting crafting food but I could never get a recipe.
Elijah Campbell
you dont need recipes to craft, simply check a guide online and do the combination, you simply need the appropriate skill level.
Levi Turner
You will find tons of recepies, read the books and they get added. Also remmeber, when you use invisibility you can steal everything with no consequences. All those paintings were my main source of income for a while. For healing just use a mage, Jahan has a heal by default. Recruit him in the library with the orc lady.
Anthony Diaz
Don't bother with this game, it is ultimately boring
Josiah Clark
How tight is gold in the game? I think I have around 600 right now. So I should not be buying potions or food? All money towards crafting?
Jace James
You can just steal all the paintings and get rich easily, but there's nothing really interesting to buy except maybe for spells, skills, and ammunitions.
But as i said, don't bother, the game is average. It's a shame though, i waited for a similar combat system for a long time. Alas, it's flawed.
Austin Wood
I greatly enjoyed it and found it to be one of the best RPGs released in years.
Just because you found it boring doesn't mean others will.
Camden Flores
Yeah, i'm a bit jaded because i was hyped by the game when it came out and then felt disappointed.
Austin Diaz
haven't touched the enhanced edition yet are scepters any good? grenades?
Thomas Peterson
Divinity OS2 is improving a lot of stuff you seem to have gripes with. Especially the whole thievery thing since NPCs will report that shit to the guard and they'll interrogate everybody they meet in the street.
Jackson Martinez
Pretty damn tight until midgame because talents cost quite a bit, don't waste it on potins or food.
Juan Jackson
I think you forgot >blacksmithing Which was the most retarded thing to exist in the game. Friendly reminder to keep any gear that gives +1 to blacksmithing so you can put nails on your boots to prevent slippage. Because thats ALL blacksmithing is good for.
Bentley Brown
Tbh what really bugged me were the setting, the universe and the story.
Ingame's world didn't make me care, at all. That was the biggest flaw in the game imo.
Cameron Flores
these guys just said crafting is good though? so if blacksmithing sucks, what profession am I crafting with?
Dominic Anderson
Yeah nevermind blacksmiths being able to sharpen your weapons (even non-craft) for a +25% bonus to total damage at max level.
Or that you can craft generic weapons with noticeably higher stats than rares from boss fights.
scepters are really weak(kinda good at the start) but expensive as shit cause you cant craft them I believe.
Colton Cruz
Don't listen to this retard, he probably doesn't know that the weapons you smith scale with your level AND the blacksmith level which caps at 5.
Carter Cruz
ok. Should I get BS on a main char and they can make gear for everyone? Or is it better to use the talent point on one of the other companions I meet.
Connor Scott
It sounds to me that you didn't build your characters properly and you missed on exploring the city.
Kevin Sanders
recruitable mage in town already has the talent for +1 craft and +1 blacksmith.
make use of him as he's built for support anyway.
Josiah Bennett
Jahan is best since he already starts with one point in both crafting and blacksmithing.
Christopher Rogers
I think I did them alright?
Wizard was 8 int 7 speed Rogue was 9 and 8 if I remember right.
didnt have many talent choices but I think I got the right ones.
I "explored" the city but didnt talk to everyone, just guys for the main quest, extinguished a ship on fire, sold some junk to a trader.
Thanks
Thanks
William Gomez
The story and dialogue was too stupid to keep me playing it, and yeah the gimmick is how hard it is so you have to learn how to cheese everything with wizards. Kind of lame since I wanted to try some rp builds. The difficulty of rpgs shouldn't interfere with class fantasy, pillars had the same problem.
Luis Harris
They only warn you for the north beach, every other exit you leave entirely unmolested
