The problem with the Koopalings is that there's too fuckin' many of them, and they can't be separated. You can't just have one or two, it has to be all seven, and that quickly eats up a lot of space. So you wind up with a load of Mario games where every single fuckin' boss fight is taken up by one of them. It gets obnoxious and feels incredibly uncreative.

I don't remember having asked for them; besides, they look like niggers.

Lemmy's Landfags grossly overestimated the long-term appeal of the Koopalings.

It's simple, they're over used now. They & Toads just need to be balanced out better & then people will be fine with them.

Combine them into 1 colossal mech or gauntlet-style bossfight rather than spreading them all across the game.

I disagree. Lemmy, Iggy, and Morton were completely shafted. They hardly had as much presence and didn't even get a second boss fight.

Instead of set pairs, I would have prefered seeing them mix and match and how they work off each other.

They're seven (7) characters, and they're an all or nothing deal. As a result, they take up a lot of space that could have been used for more original characters/bosses.

Not to mention that in the NSMB games, they're fights are all almost exactly the same.

No, Paper Jam didn't do enough with them. Hell, three of them get significantly less screen time and two of them hog it.

I love them and think it's great they're back. I haven't played MK8 though, so maybe I'm not "sick" of them like some people are. They were a big part of my childhood so I like seeing them around.

Their implementation is wrong, re-creating their classic boss battle wore off real quick after New Super Mario Bros.

We don't mind seeing them, but it's painful for them to be the same fucking thing over and over again forever.

The problem with Mario Kart 8 was the babies, not the Koopalings, but since the babies have been around since a Gamecube title, you won't hear the people who hate the Koopalings complain.

Because people are accusing them of "Taking up slots" in games. What they really mean is "My favorite character isn't getting enough screentime so it's their fault".

You got me man. Having been one of those people who missed them when they disappeared in the 90s, then pulling for them after Superstar Saga and then finally getting them back, it's honestly surreal seeing people that DON'T like them.

To me, the Koopalings always sort of belonged in the series. They were as important as Bowser. Maybe that's just because I grew up right when they were majorly involved with the cartoon and the mainline games, but that's just how it was. I can see why people are upset because they want new, original stuff but I don't see why you can't have original stuff with them included in it. Everybody wants new stuff but nobody wants to get rid of Bowser or swap Mario out for a new hero.

Fuck the Koopalings being rehashed, I'm more mad about Junior getting glued to his Clown Car after Sm4sh.

Super Paper Mario shows that IS shouldn't be making original anything for Mario. Even if they're not original the main series Mario characters are better designed than 90% of the non-derivative in the Paper Mario series.

Thing is, Junior was basically Boom Boom for that game.
But no one complains about fighting Boom Boom in every Fortress in SMB3 or that'd be insulting SMB3.

They reappeared as useless boss fodder without any personality, repeatedly.
And bothering rosterautists in MK8 (even though the babies and Mario & Peach reskins were even worse)

Not to mention they come in a set of 7 which can easily fill out room for other unique bosses.

It's only now in Paper Jam and Color Splash that they're finally getting some character and personality, but it's already too late, the damage is already done.

SPM isn't the entire series, and even that game had a few neat designs outside of the geometric shapes.

The other Paper Mario games gave us stuff like Doopliss and the Shadow Sirens.

This is the game that killed a LOT of love for Nintendo.

People were overjoyed at the original NSMB and had nothing but praise for NSMBWii for adding 4 player co-op. Then this game came along and rehashed EVERYTHING from stage backgrounds, to mechanics, to music and even bossfights. The Koopaling hate stems from here because they had the exact same fights in two games. This was also Nintendo's first foray into DLC and boy was it ugly. This game showed the dark side of Nintendo with crappy 3 pack challenge dlc levels.

NSMB2 killed the NSMB franchise. It killed peoples love of the Koopalings. It killed peoples trust in Nintendo to get DLC right.

NSMB2 was a mistake.

I hate them now because they're fucking boring to fight. They still follow the stupid 3-hit rule and their wands are fucking useless since it takes them ten fucking seconds to wind up for 1-3 shots.

Koopalings are characters who should come back for a game or two every like 8 years then fuck off again. In the span of 4 years, they were in NSMB 2, NSMB U, MK8, Smash and Mario and Luigi Paper Jam.

There hasn't been an exceptional 2D Mario bossfight outside of the Bowser battles. It doesn't actually matter if they're bosses.

It's not like they took away some super important slots from MK8. Oh fucking no we lost Honey Queen, Funky Kong and Dry Bones. Guess the series is unplayable now.

They were rolled into ONE character slot for Smash, as alts for another character.

About the only genuine gripe I can see is from the RPG fans because Paper Mario used to have exceptional bossfights. Even then, Sticker Star did nothing but resize standard enemies and present them as bossfights. Color Splash is a sequel to Stick Star so i'd argue that the Koopalings are a step up from "giant goomba" and "really big blooper."

I like Lemmy but I know I can't get him without the other guys. They're kind of a package deal.

Gooper Blooper is a Sunshine boss, though.
Also he danced and attacked to the music. No Koopaling fight will be that creative.

I was, and the vast majority loved them. People were mostly bitching about Baby Rosalina and Pink Gold Peach. Then the DLC was revealed and things got even worse. Still sucks that King Boo and Diddy Kong got cut.

I don't mind koopalings in multiplayer games. They have more reason to be there than characters who never appear in main series games ever.

But you believe that Bowser and goombas should never return in a Mario game? They're definitely more stale and overused than the Koopalings.

Honestly, I'd actually prefer blokes from the various spinoff series to be in sports games than Koopalings, babies, and generic enemies. Mona Pizza, or Starlow, or Captain Syrup, or Tatanga, or E. Gadd, or Toadsworth, would all be neat.

They sucked ass in NSMB2, but they were better than ever in NSMBU, I loved their castles and boss fights. It might have been best if they replaced Boom Boom's spots and end bosses were "big common enemy", but there were plenty of those "big common enemy" fights that you guys love, too.

Koopalings are the least of MK8's problems, too. 4 Marios, 4 Peaches, Baby Luigi, Baby Daisy, Baby Rosalina, Dry Bowser, no proper battle mode, STILL no return of mission/challenge mode.

The closest thing to this is Iggy still using a chain chomp in both NSMB Wii and 2 and Ludwig somehow utilizing his Flutter Jump in all of his fights
