Game is fuckin intense

game is fuckin intense.
also, that one guy who can never shut the fuck up, when nearby hostiles are able to hear every word you say with positional audio.

what VR setup do i need?

HTC VIVE

and
Minimum:
OS: Windows 7
Processor: Intel i5-4590 3.3 GHz
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 970

Recommended:
OS: Windows 10
Processor: Intel i7-4770 3.4 GHz
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 980

>Windows 10
Oh boy.

my computer meets the specs. is the vive the only pair of googles that are compatible? i'd like to get into vr gaming but i'm hesitant to commit to the vive or occulus etc. how do you like the vive? are there other games that make it worth the investment?

well, thats what steam says.. i guess windows 7 will do just fine.

youtube.com/watch?v=sp7xcZPzWGE

you cant play it without motion controls. as soon oculus touch is available its playable with the rift as well. i saw some alpha testers using their oculus touch controllers

should i wait for the oculus touch?

yeah, the vive is awesome, rec room, new retro arcade neon , battle dome , raw data are awesome. theres a ton of free stuff, but its mostly just demos for upcoming titles which look promising, like vertigo and budget cuts.

gotta get onward as well

in the end it will just cost as much as the vive , just with an inferior tracking solution

>inferior tracking solution

Why do you think their tracking is inferior?

youtube.com/watch?v=E3Cpa7TmsR0

because their tracking is based on a ir constellation system, which only works reliably when the relatively low res camera can still distinguish those separate led dots, also occlusion is a very big problem with touch, the headset can be tracked from the back, it has leds there, but the controllers get occluded by your body. oculus went in full damage control and said they will offer an additional camera you put next to the other one to reduce oclusion , but game media outlets attending to game shows reported this doesnt work at all. so oculus said "well..just put the cameras in opposite corners of the room, meaning you need 4 free usb3 ports, and some spot to put that camera with its relatively short usb3 cable. the vive does not need any connection to its base stations, they just require power, and have rock solid tracking, you really need to sit on them to lose tracking, also lighthouse tracking requires less hardware power. it does not need usb3 ports, runs just from one usb2, since it gets its positional data from photo diodes, which send raw positional data to the computer, the oculus needs an image recognition system to do the same, analyzing those led blobs from 60 fps cameras

...

wait, so how do these guys move around? every VR game I've seen using motion controls has been stationary because there's no movement sticks or anything

Great explanation, thanks. Now I just need a grand for the Vive.

this is hilarious

I Need This

There's a trackpad on one of the controllers, you slide your finger up or down to move. The reason this shit isn't usually implemented isn't a controller issue, it's a motion sickness issue.

Because this game is a lot slower paced than most shooters, the devs were able to make this movement slow enough that it seems to not trigger motion sickness as much.

it has a D-pad, and the d-pad is also a trackpad. being stationary is because they had to figure out a locomotion method which wont make you barf. onwards is slightly reducing your fov when you move, and uses zero acceleration, movement is instant, also in real walking tempo

>There's a trackpad on one of the controllers

I meant on both of the controllers.

guy explains the controls youtube.com/watch?v=YWtAwGeA_ds

Gunplay looks wonky as fuck.
They should have stolen the horshoes & handgranades gunplay.
Graphics look like shit aswell, but thats only a minor concern.

The thing I've been most impressed by with the Vive is actually being able to interact physically with other players, that shit sounds so gimmicky but being able to physically gesture at people is genuinely great and surprisingly useful.

Makes it feel like you're actually playing and interacting with other human beings.

As someone who used to play arma, I swear that motormouth guy is a meme at this point.

Also is this pretty much the only good VR game so far?

gunplay is actually quite solid, using one of those vive gun stocks is recommended for sniping and such though, because you really got to stabilize the controller somehow, to get rid of your shaking

that gun stock looks legit as fuck. i dont know what to put onto those rails, but the controllers are held in place by a twist and pull mechanism held by strong magnets, so you can quickly reach for your sidearm.

"actually feels like getting shot at in a good way"

youtube.com/watch?v=2wd7R4CKzIc

wait I got a vive is this game legitimately good?

I got burnt on Raw Data which I felt was pretty shitty to be honest, the sword character was a complete fucking mess, and whilst the pistol guy felt decent he didn't feel 30 quid decent.

yeah, but like raw data its early access to be fair. its made by one dood, and he is currently hiring programmers helping him cranking out updates and bug fixes faster and more frequently.

raw data is still missing a lot of stuff , and the sword fighting is still not final, it really sucks right now. they make 2 more classes, a shotgun based class, and a bow and arrow one. and they crank out new maps all the time.

how do you aim? doesn't look like they are aiming down sight at all

holy fuck this is brutal

Will this game give me PTSD?

it only looks like that because they record from the left eye view, they actually aim with their red dots and scopes. not alot of streamers know how to switch recording to the right eye in the steam vr settings.

This is the only VR game that has picked my interest up.

If only there was any decent interactive porn game in it, I would buy in an instant.

What are they using to move? Has a game finally just said fuck it and included controller movement?

its using the dpad, and the direction your supporting gun hand is pointing at.
the guy who made this game is using results of a university project which discovered that zero acceleration, and gradually reducing the fov while moving in real walking speed is kinda preventing motion sickness. sprinting works by double clicking the dpad, and leaning firward a bit, kinda like you dash. as soon you stop you use room scale to cover and dodge , kneel and go prone..

>tfw no VR

that fucking guy laughing cracks me up, and their gesturing in general is amazing, you can really see their body language. damn

>I'm such a nu male lel xd

This is insane. Looks like there is finally a reason to justify VR. Thought I'd have to wait another year. But these features seem very basic and the graphics show that but then again these things are gpu heavy anyway so that makes sense. What valve needs to do is release gmod or some kind of environment where you can do all of these basic things like moving your hands and shooting and shit except with a mod community behind it since if we rely on devs making standalone games we will almost never get any worth while VR games.

That should hold people over until solid standlone games get released over time and will increase interest in VR.

Any other games that justify getting a vive

sniper scopes are friggen brilliant in this game.
youtube.com/watch?v=XxFlVrDpkk4

>Any other games that justify getting a vive

This.

sup nerves stop shilling

fuck you

...

Honestly no, there are a lot of games which showcase the potential of the technology but are too lacking to spend a large amount of time with. Not only are the majority of games 2 hours long at best, but they're also usually incredibly expensive.

I do not regret buying the Vive at all, it's incredibly cool technology, but the games just aren't there yet. That's the drawback of being an early adopter of this kind of technology, and something you have to accept.

or you just use pvc pipes like this guy youtu.be/oqzwDqbXmcc?t=2m42s

where are the shadows

>he's holding his stock peripheral opposite to how it is in game

immersion ruined

It's made by a single developer and needs to maintain 90fps so I'm sure they were omitted for optimization.

I'm not a goat.

youtube.com/watch?v=uwMV4phJb3s

Jeez. I just realized how good VR might be for roleplaying

Bought it earlier and played 2 matches

Didnt kill anyone but I used the LMG to supress an entire group

You can literally reach up to your shoulder and pull your knife out, its nuts

feel free to elaborate pervert

player specific audio is nothing new
swat and arma and red orchestra use it
would love a new swat game till vr becomes viable

Imagine if they made a house map where you have to breach and clear with other guys and the other team is terrorists with hostages

I wish I had $10K to spend on a VR setup and an omnidirectional treadmill.

Are there airsoft guns that have actuators that simulate recoil with every pull of the trigger? Because I imagine modding something like that to go with this game would work amazingly well.

One youtuber who was a marine said it actually triggered his PTSD and gave him an anxiety attack.

iirc DDG said that you can't actually do that with unity games right now, it's bugged.

in other words rainbow six siege with a focus on VR?

Yes

Exactly

Holy shit itd be amazing playing as ash in vr

well as soon as i wake up again im going to town on my vive in arma with a shotty, should provide something in the right vein

Gas powered ones have some recoil.

Is there a video of this?

VR costs too much right now.

I love this game, its the first vive game I keep coming back every day, here a knife fight
sorry for the size, but I don't really know how to make webm

but the best of all, they finally found an artificial locomotion that doesn't cause any nausea, I was very disapointed with teleport movement games

Might be on his stream, but I only saw him talk about it in one of his videos. He's said before he's got some mild PTSD, so it's fairly implied it got him good.

youtu.be/f8N3aOn1iWE?t=109

What setup costs 10k? Are there goggles superior to the HTC Vive?

Did you miss the omnidirectional treadmill part?

holy fuck

This treadmill costs 8k? I'm not a treadmill saleslady. Feel free to break down the 10k price tag. I was going to buy a Vive but you're making me reconsider.

The only consumer grade omnidirectional treadmill I can think of that will be available anytime soon is the Virtuix Omni which is about $700-800.

When I said $10K I was referring to a custom-built thing like this that I can go prone in.

Now that I think about it, something like this would probably cost a lot more than $10K.

that's a lot of shekels.

venturebeat.com/2016/09/02/vr-adoption-among-steam-users-has-crashed-to-a-halt/

>The number of new HTC Vive owners on Steam grew only 0.3 percent in July and was flat in August

Enjoy the game while you can, development will end soon. VR is dead.

and here is me blowing my brains off after teamkilling and realizing I had no medkits left for him

my main issue with this game is trying to diffrence uniform colors

Other than porn and waifushit this is the only thing that has me sold on a vive.

looks fun

Welp

It was fun while it lasted
