I'm pretty close to buying The Witcher 3, is the shitposting true?
How bad is the combat really? Could it easily give me 50+ hours?

I just uninstalled it, it's basically a talking simulator. Combat is just smashing the same 3 buttons until all the health bars are 0.
Is it batman combat? I hate that shit
Mashing 3 buttons is pretty vague. Souls/Nioh are pretty much 3 buttons and I wouldn't consider their combat shit.
He's trolling you. The combat's nowhere near bad. Its actually improved quite substancially since the first two games.
Not the greatest RPG combat in the world, but it is decent enough.
World is a lot of fun to explore. Story is engaging. Characters are interesting.
Combat is total shit though, don't let anybody tell you different.
I'm not trolling. You just smash the block and attack buttons with the occasional spell or potion. Look up the combat yourself. "Harder" enemies just have more health and waste your time
>How bad is the combat really?
It's fine
Most webms that get posted around here are from release, that is to say, long since patched.
It's not challenging and it'll never put you at the edge of your seat, but it never overstays its welcome, you usually can dispatch enemies relatively quickly.
I bought the game and DLC at full price, and I didn't particularly enjoy the combat. Still got 350 hours out of it.
If you haven't played The Witcher 1 and 2, play those first.
replace block with roll and you just described every souls game
you have to make it good. ya the easiest most effective way to win is to just smash attack and hide behind quen, but you DON'T HAVE TO :^)
well designed world, good writing, good atmosphere, stories good sometimes, worlds full of stuff to do, but i don't know, i just can't get engaged and marathon it, i get really bored of it after a while, like theres hundreds of points of interest to explore, but they're all kinda samey and boring, feels like grinding useless loot, all the quests are the same too, you'll walk around using your witcher sense, follow a red highlighted trail, then kill a bad guy, also for a game that won so many awards for roleplaying, its roleplaying is really weak, there are some choices, but meaningful ones are few and they often both lead to the same result, and the way you play the game will almost always be the same because its really linear and there are few branching paths or options. I like it, getting through Blood and Wine at the moment but i don't get this obsessive fandom its garnered.
The DLCs are pretty worth it. They both do different things well, Heart of Stone is a linear story based one, without a new map or any side quests. Its pretty much an extra quest chain. Blood and Wine adds a gorgeous new map that looks awesome on max settings 1440p, and its more open world, but as a result, the quests feel kinda grindy (help x/15 construction workers, collect x/10 relics). I like Heart of Stone more than Blood and Wine.
I'd say if you're bored, just buy it, the entire game with DLCs goes on sale for 60 bucks sometimes, maybe even less if you go to g2a or something. It could definitely give you 50+, especially if you play on Death March and turn off all the POI markers and don't fast travel. But if you're like me, don't expect it to captivate you, its just another linear ARPG with a ubisoft approach to open world content (padding playtime with filler content around the map)
nah dude, see, the games i like are super deep with intricate mechanics and nuanced combat
the games I don't like are shit and can be described in 2 sentences
I recommend it and I hate everything
It's really bad, you have very imprecise control over actions in combat, it's a lot like bamham or ass creed in that regard
It's like bam ham combat but not as bad. There aren't QTEs everywhere and the telegraphs are more conventional, not that asscreed BLOCK NOW shit.
Play on the hardest difficulty and it's pretty satisfying, although it still gets easy once you have gear.
>he thinks you can just smash attack and heal like it's nothing in souls
Come on, are you even trying
I'd be afraid to press the pigs belly in case the poopoo comes out..
>you have very imprecise control over actions in combat
oh yes this. so much this. lock on a target, nearly have it killed, then it runs away and your "lock" moves onto the highest HP enemy. its happens every single fucking time its really annoying. and your horse and character control like a tank when traveling, its as if Geralt can't pivot or make a sharp turn on his horse at all.
It's not like that in TW either. Unless you play on baby settings.
ITS A FUCKING RPG OF COURSE THE GAMEPLAY ISNT FUCKING DEVIL MAY CRY
SERIOUSLY PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE COMBAT IN THIS GAME ARE JUST HATERS
>your lock moves to the highest HP enemy
You're supposed to hold the direction towards the target you want. Then it stays locked on.
How did you even progress through the game?
This is pretty spot on. I would only add that the invisible walls in the open world are rather infuriating.
actually its exactly like that. you have 5 uses of swallow, 9 uses of swallow if you play the velen castle mission correctly and choose potions. and then on top of that you've got water, food, white raffard which instantly heals your health, ekhidna decotion that heals you everyime you cast a sign, and then fucking QUEN which you can spam almost indefinitely. TW3 has way more healing than DaS. I haven't played DaS in a while but i'm fairly certain you only get 3-4 heals and then thats it until you die. in TW3 you can just rest for an hour and have full pots for every engagement.
>implying i don't already do that instinctively
shill harder.
Spamming heals causes sickness. I forget what it's called. Yes if you spec for potions you can alleviate it but that's the point of the spec. DaS has baby specs as well. If you're not a complete idiot you actually learn to time and dodge so you're not relying on potions.
You're doing something wrong if you're randomly switching targets while they're still in your range, or don't know how to chase.
Literally just pirate it and try it out. Nothing is stopping you from free access.
> Actually believing TW3 shitposting
Its a great game. Stop being a faggot and buy the game + expansions. Also you could probably spend 10 hours just playing the mini game in TW3. The game is ridicules long not including the expansions.
>it's long
>therefore it's good
Only basement dwellers play talking simulators. Normal people get enough of it IRL
> Things can't be long and good
>How bad is the combat really?
It's not bad at all
> Could it easily give me 50+ hours?
Yes, that's only the main quests, there are tons of side quests that can be good as the main quests.
>you will never use a fat pig's belly as a pillow
Why even live?
I want to give Ciri a long and good fucking desu senpai.
It's good because it's long with a consistent level of quality.
>velen castle mission
Which mission?
I'll say it again as I have many times as a person who first hated it and then finally 'got it'. Play on death march, use a gamepad if you must (I found this to be superior to M&K), learn how to dodge and don't just roll all around the place like a retard. Read the bestiary, use potions, bombs, crossbow and oils accordingly, and you'll have a great time.
I really enjoyed the combat after getting adjusted to it. If you must, check out some good specs. Here's a mild tip, I recommend going light/heavy melee with the delusion 'sign'. Go from there, oh and Synergy is something worthwhile to pursue if you're going into alchemy.
