Any thoughts on the 'meet your match' update? What did they do wrong and how could they fix it?
Any thoughts on the 'meet your match' update? What did they do wrong and how could they fix it?
OP here, just wanted to say, general tf2 thread
>What did they do wrong
Everything
>How could they fix
Rework comp entirely, have placement matches and better matching system overall, another anti-cheat system since VAC is garbage, Bring CSGO's Overwatch system so people can check for hackers, remove Payload from 6v6 but do put some more Attack/Defense match to experiment whether that may work, have the option to either replay and pick another map after one match, bring back quickplay but have it quickly find Vanilla community servers as to reinforce people to make good Vanilla servers, allow transparent viewmodels, allow animation mods.
Those are the biggest ones but they're more shit they have to work on.
It was very shaky at launch, but I think they've done a decent job of fixing the problems they brought in. I still love the game, but Valve needs to hire some dedicated people who only work on TF2.
>Update that was "in the works" for 3 years
>Despite no proof of it existing except the word of Valve developers, the same people who also promised that Half Life would be wrapped up in an episodic trilogy
>Magically starts materializing after Overwatch's enormously successful beta
>Despite having all the time in the world to work on this update, it's rushed to release less than a month after Overwatch's first competitive season
>It sucks ass
Valve only started caring when it sensed a legitimate threat that would harm its Mann Co. Store revenue.
I think the community is greatly overreacting. Valve said nothing about this update and they hyped it up as the next big TF2 update.
I hate those retards at Reddit for pushing this "Valve needs to give the development to the community" meme
Casual matchmaking is pretty good. It's nice to be able to be put on the same server on the same team with a bunch of friends with no fear of autobalance.
It's a little barebones right now, but the team said they were going to roll out more features so I have no problems with the way it is now.
>it's been 1 year since the last issue of the comic

Remove casual
Name one benefit to casual matchmaking compared to hopping in any valve server you choose

...
>What did they do wrong
literally everything
>how could they fix it
by reverting everything to pre MYM update

Revert Righteous Bison back to how it was before the update.

I used to agree with you so much. I liked dropping in and out of Valve servers (not community servers, stop telling me to use the server browser) at will.
But once you play it for awhile it's actually much better this way. You have people actually playing the game, you never get autobalanced away, both teams are usually completely full. People are actually starting to coordinate instead of everyone going solo. It's a revelation.
Maybe they could bring back Valve servers for non matchmaking matches in case you wanna drop in and out, but they should keep casual matchmaking.

>matchmaking
Casual matchmaking fixed nothing and killed most of the private servers that weren't trading/achievement/dumbass minigame servers. The teams are just as shit as ever but now you have to wait longer to join them.
I don't know how this update affected comp because I don't give shit about comp.
>balance
When pyro vs. heavy was announced everyone thought the same thing: "oh good, Valve is realizing past mistakes and focusing on fixing two classes that desperately need improvement". Then we all saw the balance changes from the update, and realized nothing was really getting better for either class because TF2 is run by people who don't even understand why previous design choices were made. Heavy got nothing but nerfs, and pyro got two baffling buffs that don't matter. Odds are the new weapons will suck dick and make no sense, so it didn't even matter who won.
they should just offer a "vanilla" tf2
revert everything to before there were alternate items
tf2 was made garbage as soon as they released new items for the medic and pyro
Talk about TF2 please
It sucks for us thirdworlders
Fuck you, I love the kritzkrieg
Agreed

It's basically the same now.
It was a shaky at first, but just like with quick play you can essentially start the game and find a game soon.
I like the buff to teleporters, but other than that I haven't noticed much.
Nerf razorback and dds
How to nerf the razzybazzy?
