Anything I should know before starting out?
Anything I should know before starting out?
Stick with the prod.
take the GEP gun at the beginning. you can use it to blow up locked doors
I'm not big into books.
Invest in swimming to find a lot of secret areas later on.
Remember to master swimming skill.
Stick with the swim, swim with the swim.
get the mods from pcgamingwiki.com
GMDX can be optional since it's your first playthrough
swimming is shit
Yes, that image you posted shows that it is clearly plagiarism on Duke Nukem
your vision is augmented
you can find really good explosive bullets hidden in the unatco womens bathroom
Speaking of, I've been pushing back playing because on win10 whenever I use the vision aug the game starts jittering.
Put exactly one point in swimming. Any more is a waste of points and any less is just tedious.
I loved that they kept shit talking you about that
>not playing as agent phelps
Install Revision if it's your first playthrough, if you want to get the best experience out of it, and if you want to make the whole Sup Forums butthurt.
Install GDMX if you just want to fix vanilla, and follow the Sup Forums hivemind
revision looks like shit, family
>install GMDX
>it actually fucking lags
>kill an NSF terrorist
>his head fucking explodes from the force of my crowbar
>you move so fast that the AI's improved reaction time doesn't even matter
>pointlessly tedious O2 bar
>uninstall
GMDX is basically the Brutal Doom of Deus Ex. I'm convinced at this point that all the GMDX love is just some kind of well-contained joke.
modders jamming in a bunch of extra bullshit to existing levels is not a good way to experience the game for the first time
it would be like recommending somebody watch the blu rays of the original star wars trilogy first, except imagine if those edits weren't even by lucas himself
It sure does before you try it, famalam
shifter is really the only thing you should MAYBE consider using for your first playthrough
that and the DX10 mod
But Cole Phelps died because he COULDN'T swim.
First level sucks
youtube.com
learn all of these memes before attempting to discuss deus ex on vee lest you be branded an outsider
thanks for spoiling that game i was about to play homo
Yeah, try showing a Star Wars virgin the original theatrical cut of so IV.
He'll quit the whole saga so fast you don't even have to make him reach the prequels
can you get the revision mod without the graphics changes?
A non-lethal takedown is always the most silent takedown
look for a gas grenade and throw it to the right side of the unatco hq door and skip the first mission because it sucks ass
consider the possibility that you're just a moron
No problem friend, you surely weren't going to beat it.
...
Remember: You were never properly trained in it's operation
>two rival Triads headquarters less than a hundred meters from each other
>a fucking disco not that far from a Chinese monk temple
>a restaurant in the literal middle of a popular market
>all this shit pushed into a ridiculously small map you can travel through in 3 minutes of walking
To be fair the original game did honestly have some structural issues under an architectural standpoint
Consider the possibility you never actually watched the theatrical version. Do you remember lightsabers being blue sticks?
Actual Hong Kong is packed as fuck though.
i did watch it, and you're totally right, it just didn't have enough CG to be good
What difficulty do I choose?
Normal.
Did the difficulties even do anything? I can't remember if anything changed between normal and realistic when I played the game
Realistic you pussy
The only mod you need is the nameless mod
Realistic is the only way to play a Deus Ex game
Wrong, GOTY edition requires the maps mod.
dxm.be
You CAN, in fact, level up swimming once since it only costs like (don't remember exactly) 450 points and it's nothing. It makes swimming slightly easier.
The original can be exploited to all fuck, install GMDX to balance it and fix all of the issues for your second playthrough.
any good controller mods?
You're going to want to quit at the first level.
It took me like three tries before I eventually powered through it and found the rest of the game to be like 1000% better.
Stick with it if you don't like it right away.
Do you have a PS3 controller?
I'm waiting for GMDX v8.1 to come out to play it for the first time.
Where does this meme come from?
You can't even rebind your augs from the F1-F12 keys.
>Ugh, yeah, that's the guy I told you about who was watching me in the bathroom.
Idk I loved the first level
Normal or Realistic. Easy and Hard are unbalanced.
Enemies just do more damage. You can get killed very easily by a stray headshot
Only real change in Revision is graphics anyway.
...
through my first playthough I thought the police baton was lethal but it actually knockouts cunts
>GMDX v8.1
user, GMDX 9 was announced. genericname112.wixsite.com
I don't agree with the hate for the first level, but a good chunk of it is just an open area with nothing but grass, concrete, and guards.
The later levels have more personality and more opportunity for exploration.
reallly makes you tink
(and you also need kentie's launcher/deus exe to limit the fps)
Oh shit it was mere days ago when 8.1 was still in development. Gonna wait for this now, i just beat the training.
...
just play the game, a new revision of a mod for a 16 year old game isn't going to change much.
Have you played vanilla? If not - just fucking play it.
...
>you can no longer power-throw corpses with the strength augmentation and splat them up walls like tomatoes
What a shame.
play on the hardest difficulty or its just way too easy
Uhh it's really not too different. The AI is still very easy to abuse on realistic
Dragon's tooth to the back with invisibility will one hit even MJ12 commandos
Untrain Pistols at the start, you'll get the skill back up to trained for free when the game starts. This gives you extra points to spend on whatever else you want.
When you choose leg augs, pick the high speed one over the stealth one. Using speed you can crouch walk super fast, which maintains stealth and basically gives you the benefit of the stealth aug while still giving you the flexibility to go sanic fast and jump super high.
But it looks so much better just look at the comparisons and it also has a lot of tweaks and additional content. It's not like i'm in a hurry.
I played the whole training, i'll definitely wait. I want to play the game in the best possible way.
NOt much man just enjoy the intrigue.
Choose realistic or easy. The way it works is:
Easy - you do 100% damage, enemies do 50%
Normal - you and enemies do 100%
Hard - you do 50% and take 100% (unbalanced as fuck)
Realistic - everyone does 200% to each other, meaning you get fucked easily but enemies are no longer bullet sponges. Seriously, they feel like bullet sponges on easy.
little off topic but it did anyone else feel like HR's ending was super flaccid. Was having a great time before Pangea dlc aside
>boring environment
>no guards
>maybe 5 total turrets and cameras to sneak past
>crazies can be circumvented by jumping around the railing
all capped off by a tacked on boss battle that, while at least feeling different the other ones, served as a weak climax before this Mass Effect morality choice. Are any of the other endings this weak?
Vanilla is the best possible way you dolt
Realistic is the best difficulty.
Swimming is limited in usefulness, rebreathers and the aqualung augmentation both outclass it on the oxygen front, but at least it's it's cheap to level up and the speed boost is okay
The same is also somewhat true for enviromental training, having more powerful equipment is nice but augmentations are generally more convenient, plus neither is all that necessary in general, considering how useful stealth is
You won't be hurting your playthrough all that much by skipping those two
Computers is extremely important, always get at least one point in it.
Pick the GEP gun at the start, it's extremely useful and it'll be a while before you get a chance at another.
Fast running, Regeneration, and Power recirculator are significantly better than their alternatives
Hard is fine except for those damn karkian
Stop with the spam.
Don't pick regeneration
It just breaks the game completely
Everyone said the endings were shit when the game was released, it was like the number one complaint alongside the boss battles.
Spam with the spam
Just in case though, we're cops
...
I imagined so. I didn't play it when it first came out so I missed all the banter for it.
OH YES
The main thing about the GEP gun is that there's a mini crossbow and sniper rifle on the very same level, so it's stupid to pick those.
The only thing I hate about DX1 is how it basically spoils the whole plot in the first five minutes. It's an iconic scene with great script and voice acting but holy fucking shit it's not possible to trust UNATCO after watching that.
To be fair, UNATCO were patsies that didn't really know what was going on.
That whole sequence is about learning it's context over the course of the game.
Not him
You don't need CGI for a movie to be good, but it helps if you're doing a space opera with people pretending plastic sticks are the ultimate civilized laser weapon.
We both enjoyed it back then but I tried showing the blue ray to SW virgins, and they ALL complained it felt too dated, even my fucking grandad (and he doesn't have that much standards if we aren't talking about spaghetti westerns)
>tfw the intro went completely over my head the first time I played the game so I wasn't spoiled
Well yeah but you see Walton Simons cooperating with UNATCO so you can put things in perspective. The twist never hit me because of that.
It's because they didn't want you to kill the NSF blindly, and non-lethal wasn't common for games at the time. At any rate I'd rather it this way than the devs hanging XP and achievements in the players' faces to encourage non-lethality, as the new series does
>Do you remember lightsabers being blue sticks?
no, because that didn't happen. there were a couple rough scenes in ANH where the lightsabers aren't overlapped properly, but other than that it looks alright.
trust me, I watch the theatrical cuts exclusively.
Oh, here's a big one that doesn't get brought up very much
head hitboxes are pretty messed up in this game, I assume, due to the engine. The hitbox for the head isn't actually on the head itself, it's a rectangle in front of (and probably another one behind?) the head. What this means is that while shooting an enemy in the head from the front will register correctly, hitting them from the side won't count as a headshot
In order to land headshots from other angles, you'll need to aim at the hitbox itself, which is a few inches in front of their face - try it a few times and get a feel for it.
I too am starting the game and I have an important question.
Please note I am playing on realistic mode.
I'm already in the 3rd level or so, and I'm stuck between going stealth or lethal.
I'm thinking you get rewarded more for being nice and not killing enemies/sneaking around. But it's ridiculous at certain points. Tired of Proding then beating them with batons (since for some reason, the prod randomly will knock them out, and then sometimes not).
So, does it matter so much that I should actually try and go non lethal as much as I can. Or should I get loud on these motha fuckas and finally use this ammo I've been piling up, only using sneaking to save ammo/deal with dangerous situations.
You betray UNATCO in like the second or third level, although it's obviously meant to be a twist it comes so early it's not a big deal if you realise it in the opening.
Once you finish the game, of course.
I know a lot of people bounced off Nameless Mod because they feel like it's too "in-jokey" but I really enjoyed it despite never being part of the Planet DeusEx forum. Atmosphere is super comfy, it's real open, and they add a couple of fun abilities like making your own explosives and even an unarmed skill. Sure it's a bit sillier, but there's plenty of twists and turns in the story.
Shilling it because I don't see it talked about enough.
>Pick the GEP gun at the start, it's extremely useful and it'll be a while before you get a chance at another.
>The main thing about the GEP gun is that there's a mini crossbow and sniper rifle on the very same level, so it's stupid to pick those.
FUCK
Unless you're trying to play the game like a circle-strafing arena shooter you'll be swimming in medpacks for the entire game either way anyhow; it doesn't make any difference.
just do what you feel is right user
none of the rewards are significant
if you wanna do nonlethal, max out low tech, and get sneak attacks on the lower back, ideally while they aren't moving
gas grenades and pepper spray are good too, you do a lot more melee damage to enemies under the effects of those (though not as much as the stealth bonus)
use the baton for normal guys, save the prod for commandos and MiBs
don't worry too much about it, there's plenty more GEP guns later on, the first being about a third of the way through the game
So I take that it really doesn't matter much.
Also another question. There's a key and passcode for everything right you just gotta find it? And If you don't you also have the option of hacking/lock picking/breaking the door?
Or are there certain things you can only pick/hack/destroy?
Because I tend to go crazy looking for the keys/passcodes so I don't waste my resources.
Absolutely not, just look at this shit:
genericname112.wixsite.com
What's good about this is that it keeps the original artistic vision and expands it instead of just remake everything with another engine for the sake of muh grafix.
