Because in real life the body requires rest to heal. In real life, if something goes wrong and you don't heed the advice of your doctor, it can seriously make it worse or permanently damaging. I work with at least 4 different people who have torn their rotatory cuff and when the doctor said to let it heal and don't lift anything they figured they could tough it out. None of them can lift their arm above their shoulder because of it.
