Fallout 4 has potential as a first person empire sim. If you focus on the main storyline the game is very underwhelming.
Carson King
it really is that good I'm honestly supersized it didn't get 100 scores across the board.
Brayden Lopez
the whole thing about Sup Forums hating everything is a popular and trendy meme around here. It's the only thing that keeps Sup Forums together.
oh.. and the reddit bashing.
Blake Butler
I thought it was fun then after 80 hours I realised that it was terrible, I wanted it to be good so badly. I enjoyed exploring the wasteland but after I had seen everything I decided to dive into the quests but holy fuck they are bad.
You'll see too, you keep doing the same shit over and over, the quests are so mind numbingly dull and the RPG elements are incredibly shallow.
I wish I could say I thought this was a good game, but damn the only improvement was the gunplay which while fun becomes shallow and easy after level 20 and that was playing the entire thing on survival difficulty before the patch that changed it.
Luke Miller
As a RPG, it fails by railroading choices up the wazoo. Due to the design of the leveling and perk system, eventually you will reach the point where you have all the perks, limiting player choices on a niche gamestyle that they will persist with throughout the game.
As a shooter, it is average. It's better than NV and 3 in that regard but taken as a shooter, it is still boring.
As a fallout game, it is a shit stain for reasons you know but are posting this thread for (you)'s
Landon Diaz
It's good. It has some flaws, but nearly every game does. Don't worry about Sup Forums shitting on it.
Leo Reed
4 is perfect if you play it with the mindset that you're Dr. Doom and the Commenwealth is your own personal Latveria.
the only thing missing is wrapping my powerarmor in a green cloak.
Logan Jenkins
The thing that makes me hate it is the thing that makes it fallout. I hate looking at desolate half desert nothingness with trash strewn everywhere. I didn't mind it at first, but now I can't even play it with texture mods. I know in the back of my mind it's supposed to be barren and trashy, and I find that depressing. It looks like fucking Afghanistan.
The game is supposed to be garbage.
Christian Diaz
You know user, I felt the same way. Sure the story was shit and I hated it, it was somewhat enjoyable just strolling around as an overpowered goofball taking names. Then I just suddenly stopped enjoying it around 70 hours and never went back, didn't go near the DLCs either. Enjoy while you can my man.
Jaxson Ramirez
It was a big dissapointment for me.
Four conversation options always boil down to: >Yes >Edgy Yes >Goody Two-Shoes Yes >No (Yes Later)
The story is retarded. The quests are all the same.
There were lots of things I thought were nice, but the game was so broad with features but none of them were deep enough to sink your teeth into. Stuff like settlement management, power armour, building weapons, etc.
Shame.
Cameron Reyes
well if all you say happens after 200 hours of game play, then I would say it was worth it.

The best part of FO4 are the mods I downloaded the fat ass titties and ass mod with the all the girls are dressed like hookers mod, and wow fuck my it's like I'm playing a soft-core porn.

Automaton provisioners are the best. Namely as you can fucking name to know their origin and you can reassign them within settlement by on a whim by simply recruiting them.
If only the automaton DLC had a little more detail; or joining The Institute allowed me to create Synths. Then you could riddle the Commonwealth with Doombot patrols. Fallout 4 is one of the best sandboxes I have played in a long time.

I think it's a good game now due to the mods, patches and expansions. It was very buggy the first time I played but now it's a good game

It's pretty good, for me it is missing character roleplay and I can't really roleplay when my character has that annoying voice. But overall it is pretty good.
To those who do actually like it, what do you like about it?
I've had this installed with all DLCs thus far and some mods too, but it's just not able to get me interested for long at all. I end up playing for a half an hour or so, then just load up something else. I still enjoy Oblivion despite its age and I did manage to finish off Skyrim and its DLCs before putting that down for good but I get bored of FO4 almost immediately after loading.
The way the towns are so close together that it takes away any sense of danger from the Survival mode, the way the PC doesn't ever say anything interesting regardless of whatever choice you pick in the dialogue at all, the way the guns lack enough pomp in them, the way any barrel attachments still have that lighting issue where they get illuminated despite being in the shade from the sun.
There are so many little grievances that just keeps pounding away at my immersion and enjoyment of the game that I just can't get into it. I only ever made it as far as the Glowing Sea or whatever it was before deciding I was done. Haven't even explored any of the DLC.
Christopher Ortiz
Is there a mod that increases raider attacks on settlements regardless of how much defenses you have? Once I have a settlement built up enough, raiders never go near them. I would be nice if Sanctuary was attacked since I went to all the trouble of building a whole bunch of turrets everywhere.
Jackson Cook
You could have spent those 200 hours playing better games.
I'm going to make a stupid analogy here but imagine you finished a book in the span of 20 hours. Lots of flaws to it but you still continued to read it in the hope that the closure was worth the effort of completing it. Guess what, you ended up disappointed anyways.
Maybe you got your money worth in the end because you still got your entertainment value out of it, but it won't change the fact the product is subpar.
Entertainment value =/= Product quality
David Peterson
If every game has flaws, then F4 has huge glaring issues.
John Scott
I have the same issue, I genuinely can't see what people enjoy in fallout 4, even the much touted exploration is mediocre.
Aiden Nguyen
>Why does Sup Forums hate FO4 get so much hate Because better (spoken) people than you have more convincing arguments that it is not > one of the best game in the last 5 years
Aaron Watson
It makes for a good first play and a poor replay as you discover how little choice you actually have.
Also you'll get annoyed by the ambiguity of the speech options soon enough. Most notable early one is with Trashcan Carla where Sarcastic means to flirt with her.
Leo King
I can push myself to play Fallout 4 for a few hours. It's really odd that I feel this way about a Bethesda/Fallout game. I got 200+ hours out of Skyrim despite it being my least favorite Elder Scrolls game. Fallout 3 I probably dumped in 100 hours in, more with Tale of Two Wastelands.
Fallout 4 on the other hand is just bad to the point where it's boring as everlasting fuck. I can't get any fun out of the perk system, the dialogue system is trash, the exploration feels like trash, the companions are boring with the exception of the two robo ones, the faction missions are REALLY boring, the story is horribly written, the combat is somehow worse than F3's, and the settlement building is just plain bad. I got about 30 hours out of one playthrough and pushed myself to do another before I stopped after 5 hours. Immediately went back to F:NV and Tale of Two Wastelands with no urge to even play a little bit more of 4.

whoah that sounds like it needs it's own texture. That could take a few minutes to make!
Asher Davis
Exactly, whenever I start up FO4 and go around trying to play it, I always end up just wondering how anyone could decide this was their GOTY and such. It just isn't a good game, not even by Bethesda's standards. No doubt their weakest entry yet, even putting it up against previous DLCs and such.
Wyatt Martinez
Only if you're an autist retard.
At level 30, everything in the game is unlocked. All the end-game ammo, power armor and quests are able to play. So, chances are you've done just about all the quests by the time you hit 50. You have about a quarter of the perks, your character has plenty of built up settlements and you've handled all the DLCs and played through the storylines.
At this point, a normal person might reroll. He might want to go back and side with the Brotherhood of Steel this time. Or instead of that Power Armor build he used on his first place, use a high charisma stealth build. Or some junkie chem-chugging raider build. The world's this gamer's oyster.
Not you though. For some reason, you decide you need to cap everything on your character. So you keep playing. Only now, all the main quests are expended. You're doing boring radiant quests that were intended to be filler between storylines. Go to X and fetch Y. Over and over. You're on an excruciating grind.
Hundreds of hours later you hit level two hundred and fucking seventy and have all the perks. But by now you hate the game. It hasn't been fun since level 50.
Now, you're too fucking stupid to understand that a fresh playthrough and trying the game in one of the dozens of different ways you can play it is more fun, so you blame the game itself. This stupid game was only fun for the first 20 hours, not the next 200!
You're the problem, not the game.
Jacob Peterson
>trying the game in one of the dozens of different ways you can play
Jaxon Price
>rying the game in one of the dozens of different ways you can play it is more fun Oh boy, sure cant wait to say a different kind of dialogue at this one part of the story while killing the same enemies with a different gun while wearing a different set of clothes.

Would play even more if Fallout got the same amount of lewd mods as Skyrim. Altough I haven't really looked that much into it yet.
Thomas Myers
Pretty much everything wrong with Fallout 4 summed up in a single screenshot.
Kevin Reed
>four different factions in vanilla game alone >literally thousands of unique builds possible >several difficulty settings, including Survival
You faggots played it through once on Easy. Congratulations.
Jose Price
I like the game a lot but it's not as good as the previous Fallout games.
I do like the whole weapon and armour upgrade system.
Hunter James
>trying the game in one of the dozens of different ways you can play it Is this a fucking joke. The biggest flaw of Fallout 4 is that there's only one way to play the game.
Chase Ross
Variety exists, its just too bad it all ends in the same result while nothing really changes all that much along the way. Your still the dad/mom from vault 111 looking for your son and being nice/asshole/sarcastic about it.

They killed it. Just like they killed, Mafia, Dragon Age and Mass Effect and Battlefront. At least Deus Ex turned out pretty good. I just hope Dishonored will be good too. Every other franchise is pretty much turning to shit. Fuck this industry.

>want to play a merchant character in Fallout 4 >no skills >Barter perk has level requirements >all you can do is play pretend
Zachary Ross
Really? Let me rattle off a few of my playthroughs.
My first one was a rigid Brotherhood of Steel knight character. I focused largely on Power Armor perks, Laser weapons (Righteous Authority carried me throughout most of the game). Some of the best moments for this character were when Danse was revealed as a Synth. Agonizing over the decision where he realized if he talked Danse into wanting to stay alive, he was betraying both the Brotherhood and Danse himself because he wanted his comrade in arms alive selfishly over what Danse would want. So, ultimately, Danse was put down. And later when confronted by his Synth son. "Father, please don't leave me!" "You're... you're not my son!" Good times.
The next one was a snarky but hugely charismatic Railroad Agent. I capped stealth and charisma for his build and used silenced pistols. While the Brotherhood character had no romances (he was loyal to his dead wife), Railroad agent fucked every girl in the game. For encounters where he couldn't just silently snipe someone from the shadows because there were too many, he'd use his charisma perks to have enemies turn on one another while ducking in and out of stealth to create mayhem. He also wore an underarmored tuxedo to fit the whole suave James Bondish agent aesthetic.
My next playthrough was a Minuteman build. He used a revolutionary war saber and the laser musket. This was my dudley do-right character who just tried to help everyone. Most of my perks were sunk into settlement building and this is where my best work happened. I turned EVERY settlement into a self-sustaining community.
Jack Gray
I've just come to realise that FO4 baffles me in the same way Bioshock Infinite does, or rather, the way every reacts to the two games. Review sites everywhere swear up and down that the games are the greatest of their generation, the greatest of their genre and so on, that there's nothing else like it, that they're this ground-breaking and the result of decades worth of video game history and whatnot, that they're landmarks and benchmarks to which all other games should be compared with.
But I can't help but feel that they're both average, disappointing and very shallow, both of them. And everytime people talk about these two games in particular, I can't help but feel as though I'm either missing the point of them or people are just absolutely delusional/in denial about them. Different strokes for different folks, sure, but usually you can at least see from their perspective and understand why they would like or love or hate something that I like or love or hate. In the case of these two games, I honestly can't because even their own predecessors in the same series are much better in almost all aspects.
Shit's weird as fuck.
Anthony Jackson
Don't forget >No skill checks >Only dialog checks are Speech, everything else is gone >No low INT dialog
I made a character with max INT and Science perks, but never got any unique dialog or alternate quest solution from any of it. Meanwhile New Vegas gave you heaps of options and checks in pretty much every quest and convo. Jesus Christ Fallout 4 was fucking garbage.
Samuel Carter
>No low INT dialog
There's plenty of low INT dialogue, it's just enabled by default.
Ayden Lewis
>But I can't help but feel that they're both average, disappointing and very shallow, both of them.
They are user, they are. It's just the faggots that have never played a previous Fallout game who claim this game to be the most awesome shit ever when in fact it's dropped immensely in quality since the last games because they have no fucking clue.
Austin Jones
Literally the only difference between your characters is which faction you picked to send you to clear out raiders and ghouls. You can't play a smart character, a dumb character, a scientist, a doctor, a bad guy, ect. You're always railroaded into generic armed mercenary no matter what. Even the factions were shallow as piss compared to New Vegas.
Leo Bailey
The shooting mechanics were improved enough that I enjoyed as dumb dungeon crawling shooter.
Obviously it's woefully inferior to NV where it matters for an RPG, but who actually expected Bethesda to deliver on that?
Matthew Johnson
The next one was a really fun one, my "synth" build. I'd initially thought about just going with an Institute build, but this was right after Far Harbor came out, and Valentine's brother convinced my character he was a Synth. So, even though he was halfway through the Institute questline at this point, I had him quit and join the Railroad. Still, he used Institute rifles, a courser outfit, and high scientific skills in things like robotic control and hacking. And it was fun having him play a villain on the side of the railroad. I sold the ghoul kid into slavery, took ammoral quests, but only if they didn't actively harm synths or the Railroad.
The next playthrough was my Merchant King build. This time I only took perks related to building settlements and making money. Things like Fortune Finder, Scrounger, Cap Collector (which is the Barter of FO4), Local Leader, etc. The character was largely non-combative, outside the Charisma skills to get enemies to turn on one another while he rapidly looted the battlefield and fled with all their stuff. In the end, I set up the abandoned drive-thru as a giant metropolis of trade that lagged my game out anytime I tried to rest there.
And the last really main character I did was my Survivor character. The feature had just come out, and so I went with the generic appearance, generic name "Nate", and figured I'd just play as deep into the story as I could. I went with a bland all 4's across the board build. Turns out, Survival is hard as fuck. Raiders can one-shot you from 100% HP with pipe pistols. The power armor in Concord? Doesn't do shit against that Deathclaw. Your minigun will run out of ammo before he hits 75% health, and he can one-shot you through the power armor. This was the most fun playthrough because the way it forces you to assess and handle obstacles is a requirement, not a choice. It's like playing a new game entirely, honestly.
Jack Bailey
It's a fantastic game if you have never touched an FPS or an RPG before
There is definetly fun to be had, but you will be hitting brick walls left and right when you discover there is no real depth to anything in this game
RPG and FPS fans are going to loathe it since it has horrible roleplay elements and barely decent FPS mechanics. Its a game that is enjoyed best if you haven't play videogames before
Jonathan Myers
pirated the game at release and wasn't impressed. Gonna pirate it sometime now when all the dlc is out so i can add copious amounts of tiddy mods
Connor Allen
>can't play a smart character Yes you can. >dumb character Yes you can. >a doctor Very easily. >bad guy lol, have you ever played the game?

FO3 was at least somewhat decent. It had Three-Dog. FO4 doesn't even have 1 interesting character.

See: No dialog checks outside of speech (Which is only used to ask for more caps) Every quest is completely linear, you're just sent to clear out camps of raiders, ghouls, or mutants. Non-violent solutions no longer exist, you're almost always forced to just gun all the bad guys. No INT dialog, no INT checks, no science checks, no medicine checks, nothing.
Alexander Cook
Three-Dog was the worst thing about Fallout 3. He was so fucking loud, annoying, obnoxious, and unfunny. >"DID SOMEBODY FART xDDDD" Quality Bethesda dialog.
Josiah Wood
>Playing through that shit tier story all over again Unless it's modded to hell no fucking thanks. There's no options it's just a linear go here kill this quest chain for the entire game.
Logan Jackson
Oh man the railroad. I've never met a faction in any game with motives more shoddy then these chuckle fucks. They take synths, memory wipe their brains and change their personality completely killing the original synth. They treat them as people but replace each of them with new personality and memorys. I burned the entire place to the ground.
Logan Perez
I didn't like Three-Dog. I actually like Travis from FO4 better, but I don't really like either of them at all.
