I am seriously thinking of picking up Redout. Does it actually manage to live up to F-Zero?

its more wipeout than f-zero but its fucking great
youtube.com
Take a look at what mister cancer thinks.
The level design is pretty great, but controls are far from f-zero.
I didnt play wipeout that much but I wouldn't recommend it to f-zero fans, except if you really enjoy futuristic racing games or really need a new racing game right now.
I played and enjoyed wipeout, so this will be great too.
Yeah, I watched that review, it looks pretty fun from what I have seen.
My boyfriend will be pissed at me for spending 35$ on a racing game, but I guess I'll go for it.
Which track is your favorite by the way?
this is on steam? how hard will it be to run, and does it have online? I want to torrent it but multiplayer will prob be dead on private servers if it has multiplayer
It's a better Wipeout game than what the original developers of Wipeout have made on PC.
Game is optimised to fuck. Even on mediocre hardware you should be able to play at 60fps.
im looking at screenshots and the gameplay looks like there is too much going on screen for me to enjoy, it looks like any other generic wipeout/f-zero clone. what makes this one worth getting?
They actually nail the feeling of driving a high-speed anti-gravity ship instead of just feeling like you're driving a floating car.
Also the track design is pretty good and it's got a lot of them.
youre a fucking shill arent you?
It's closer to podracer than wipeout son.
BallisticNG and Formula Fusion are the wipeout clones.
>Ask if the game is good
>People respond
>r u a fukken shill
Kill yourself.
nah fzero is in a league of it's own but it's a good wipeout clone
if you don't wanna shell out 40 bucks or whatever it is ballistics NG is free on steam and pretty good
The game looks good.
i just wish that the ship wasn't that much anchored at a fixed distance from the ground and tracks had a charateristic section that the wipeout tracks had.
You asked him you fucking moron.
it looks aight, but nobody has really captured what was so great about Fzero and wipeout.
everyone is all about speed speed speed and they forget to make the tracks fun. its just a roller coaster ride at that point and not a racer.
Redout's tracks are leagues above Wipeout's. If you're skilled enough you can go around every track without braking once.
I dont like the gameplay based around using both sticks to manage your vehicle, but that may be just me.
Still, the tracks are beautiful.
>they forget to make the tracks fun
Huh, never thought about that actually. I love Aeropolis from GX for instance, could play it over and over again. In recent futuristic racers there's not much that sticks out in terms of memorable tracks.
>there's not much that sticks out in terms of memorable tracks.
exactly. I've tried a lot of future racers and nothing really comes close to the level/track designs of wipeout or fzero, even extreme G.
The tracks are pretty good though, the antartic ones are my favorites.
Why is braking a bad thing? I like both this and wipeout, they're just different is all.
because you gotta go fast. and I feel the game is too easy. never gotten less than golds annd plats.
Physics don't feel great. Don't really know what it is, but controls feel lacking compared to wipeout and fzero
How optimized game is? I have feeling crappy 750 wont run it well?
I don't remember the name of it, but the one in the jungle with the tube at the start is great
The games pretty decent, but I'm not really digging the aesthetics of the game.
That's about it, though.
I have an ancient 5750 and it runs ok.
The game uses a low poly aesthetic, it should run well on a lot of systems
Maybe they can add in some more challenging stuff later hopefully.
How much is it?
If it's over 15 dollars, it's trash.
Or at least a more challenging AI, finishing 46 seconds ahead of the AI pilots on a 2 lap Boss race is unacceptable.
The problem is that outisde of Pure races the AI just can't keep up with the speed abilities, since it seems they only take EMP or the energy drain ability and a non-speed passive.
During Pure races they are much harder however since you don't have that advantage anymore.
I remember having hella fun with the second boss track. It's weird, the ice tracks kicked my ass all day every day, but once the boss track rolled around I had a lot of fun playing their greatest hits as a sequence.
30 dollaroos
In Podracer you are still glued to the floor. In this game you slide everywhere. Also Podracer didn't have strafing.
Just a friendly reminder BallisticNG is free on steam for anyone looking for that ps1 WipeOut experience.
/shill
>is this game good?
>Yes.
>Why?
>It handles really.
>Wow, fucking shills.
>implying this whole thread isn't just a shill answering his own questions
Speaking of pure races. Is it me who needs to git gud or does not having the magnetic stabilizer make turning ass and near impossible without in class 3 and 4? I feel as though their claim that you can take every corner without breaking has a huge asterisk beside it.
the only good thing about racing games is comfyness
that's why all these futuristic ones are a piece of shit, also that's why they are dead
There is a single-stick controller layout and it works almost perfectly with one caveat, driving straight and pitching up or down can make you turn a bit if you don't keep the stick perfectly straight. But that's not such a big deal and you get used to it.
I found that layout much easier to pick up than the weird dual stick thing.
it's alright, i feel like im already done with it though
the boss races are awesome since you're going through all 4 tracks in an environment, spliced by teleport gates.
other than that, the tracks don't really vary all that much. they are always the same width and nothing fun really happens with them. the volcano levels started to get different and fun.
I feel like the devs didn't want to make the tracks too hard, and that's where it fails.
Also there's like no penalty for crashing into walls, and sometimes it's faster to actually smash against the wall instead of drifting around it since drifting or braking will slow you down more.
7/10, wait for a sale unless you want to play online for a bit before it dies (not worth)
I came to the same conclusion for the pod racers at least. But I haven't played Tier 3 / 4 yet, so maybe that does make that universal.
What platforms is Wipeout on? I remember getting it free on PS+ for PS3 ages ago but fuck playing anything on that machine ever again. Might go back for Vanquish
its mediocre, especially compared to F-Zero GX
Distance is a much better 'future racer' on Steam, and doesn't have horrendous post-processing.
Started playing some yesterday, I think it's decent, a few thoughts:
AI is all over the place - they seem to get an unfair advantage in some races - they'll be grinding the floor or walls in a number of tracks but still be going way faster than you
As well as that, they have a tendency to just ram into you - which would be fine if the above wasn't true and they did just boost into the back of you and spin you around. Meanwhile if you try doing this to them they don't give a shit.
Non pure races however are complete stomps. The AI can't keep up with boost.
The time trials are fun as fuck
The look of the game is nice, but there are certain areas of certain tracks that drop frames significantly - you have to play well above 60fps to negate the impact of this
I imagine online is just people boosting and ramming, but I pirated it so eh
I prefer wipeout honestly
if your computer can run redout you may as well emulate f-zero gx on dolphin.
Fucking shit, when are we getting an Xtreme G tribute? Or just any hyperspeed racer with ground contact? Anybody?
whoa that track is fucking boring, also another problem with this futuristic shit, the tracks are boring shit
I very much like it
>Distance
I'll second this if only because I played its free predecessor Nitronic Rush & had a blast with it.
>implying Sup Forums isn't just a bunch of interns from different companies trying to sell games to each other
Look at this shill.
Play Redout if you want Wipeout, play Fast Racing Neo if you want F-Zero
yeah that's most of the tracks. the volcano ones start to do different stuff, but not enough. they almost got interesting and challenging there but fell short anyways.
here
Agree with everything said too
The tracks are pretty shallow and braking is absolutely worthless, from what I've found in time trial
Sorry didn't mean to quote you and hit post
Distance feels lacking imo, I bought it since I had so much fun with Nitronic Rush but now it feels like they overengineered an awesome idea and there just isn't enough fun there
>look up Distance on Steam
>"Distance is a survival racing game that combines the intense action of arcade racing with the exploration of an atmospheric world."
What the hell does the last bit mean? Racing and exploration doesn't really mix. Also, survival? Does it have crafting too? And zombie dinosaurs?
I'll have to wait until next month to get it, being broke isn't fun.
Does this have split screen on PC?
It's on Steam now? Nice
in distance there's far more shit on the track that can kill you
as for the exploration part, its going to be the single-player mode which i assume will be akin to diddy kong racing. most of the game's content at this point in time is made up of traditional races.
You start out on a procedurally generated track and try to keep going without stopping for as long as possible. No crafting, upgrades, or etc.
It has a fuckload of hazards, neat gimmicks, looks great, and goes insanely fast. I'd recommend getting it on sale.
Just tried it out. Shit's pretty fucking cool. Thanks man.
That's a bad description, but basically the 'survival' aspect comes from the fact that the tracks are leagues more unforgiving than traditional racing games - your main nemesis is the track rather than the people you're racing against
That's disappointing to hear.
I haven't actually played it, but why don't you grab Nitronic Rush & give that a shot? It's freeeeeeeeeee youtube.com
>split screen
>in any game whatsoever anymore
Ah those were the days.
Ok, sounds interesting
>procedurally generated track
Well that's a nice concept & now I know why it's called Distance, but still.
>procedurally generated
This just tends to suck out the love from creation, in NR my joy was waiting for the next track to load, wondering how many ways to fuck me up they've thought of.
>Ah those were the days.
Some games have splitscreen, I play Sonic racing transformed and Dirt 3 on my livingroom PC in splitscreen for example. There are loads of other games with local co op too.
there's procedurally generated tracks, developer tracks, and community tracks.
>waah why are the first few maps boring
really? Those are just a few out of the 20 maps, they are rather straight forward for going fast because that's the point but most of the other maps are much more interesting.
The problem with Distance is that the driving (and the flying) itself is very bland, it gets old quickly.
Well that's to be expected I guess. Distance does have Nitronic's jumping & flipping too, right?
NOW THIS IS POD RACING
Distance is shit and still fucking unfinished.
you were unfinished when you came out of the womb
yep
>35$
Now you killed my racing boner
I swear the wankery over F-Zero GX is some big joke I'm not in on. The tracks are wide as fuck to the point where it's impossible to make any mistakes and there's boost pads everywhere.
Extreme G Racing on the PS2 was a way better game, so was Wipeout HD Fury, Fast Racing Neo and now Resout.
>I haven't played the game at all but will still complain about it anyway
>The tracks are wide as fuck
someone never got to diamond cup
also there's 30 racers on the track at once, of course there needs to be some width
Come back when you've unlocked the AX cup.
the only flaw with GX is how goddamn hard it is to get the final cup (AX) which contains some of the best tracks in the game
Except I did play it, it was one of the few GC games I owned alongside the glorious Ultimate Muscle game.
It sucks ass, go play Extreme G.
i'd take you a bit more seriously if you weren't suggesting extreme fucking g as an alternative
This. F-Zero tracks are wild, winding, and pretty fucking complicated.
If there are any straight-a-ways they're gonna be weird. Like the tubes where you have to know where the boost pads are on all sides. Or the last desert stage where you have to keep moving from side to side or else fall off.
What's the matter babby, kept slamming into walls and exploding because they're not as wide as your mom's anus?
>Extreme G
I don't care about anything else you said, I'm just glad to have another guy to circlejerk Extreme G with.
>XGRA
>best bike has tight turning
>no bike with same high specs & drift turning
I didn't give a shit, I took that Templar down the track & wiped out all the contestants so I can have the track to myself.
>shitting on Extreme G
Back the fuck off?!
F-Zero is faster. Plus this game looks like it controls like shit.
it does, this idiot just didn't have the skill to get past ruby cup on f-zero
>controls like shit
Guess what's behind the spoiler? git gud
Game is fun
Cool story. Now go play Chapter 7 on Very Hard.
The turbo boost powerup is utterly utterly broken
It's like a Platinum game. Any criticism is dismissed by fanboys because
>you didn't even beat it on Ultra Nightmare Arcade European Extreme Autism Mode, so you're opinion is invalid
Completed FZGX when I was 13. It was not hard at all. The AX tracks are babby tier tracks you see in Fast Racing Neo.
>B-BUT LOOK, THIS TRACK HAS ONE WHOLE CHICANE
Thanks for bumping the thread.
Holy shit thanks user this game is fucking good.
...
>Formula Fusion
>Wipeout clone
Is it fuck, I expressed my disappointment towards to the devs and they basically said they aren't trying to be Wipeout, just that the game is an AG racer. No wonder it's such a shit unfun game
I regret giving them kikestarter money when BallisticNG shits all over Formula Fusion and is free
I forgot to mention the entire kickstarter campaign was built on them allegedly being the old Wipeout devs and wanting to make another wipeout game
