Going away for a year and I won't have access to any vidya and poverty tier internet connection.

I can only take one console with me and a few games. Any recommendations on games that will last me a while?

Take an Xbone.

Halo Master Chief Collection alone will keep you busy for a while. I'd also recommend Forza Motorsport 6, Metal Gear Solid V and The Witcher 3. All of them have fuckloads of content to keep you going for a long time.

Whichever you think you'll get the most mileage out of.

You can play several dreamcast games at stable 30+ fps.
Anything older runs at 60 fps at all times.

Upgrade your internet connection temporarily, download everything off steam. Play in offline mode. It's not like you won't have a computer of some sort with you.

Unless you're going into literal third world, there is no way you won't have even a potato grade PC in there.
Get into roguelikes. They have good replayability and run just fine on low-end toasters.

Bring your laptop, get emulators, and download every NES, SNES, Genesis etc. game. 3DS with lots of JRPGs would be good too.

A laptop with 4x, GSG and TW games.
Maybe modded Skyrim for lonely nights.
a few fun coop games, with controllers for 4.

Everyone should be able to sutain themselves on a diet like that.

Try and cheat and bring both a 3DS and Vita if you can. Preferably hacked.

They both offer a fuckload of games even without emulators and the JRPGs in their libraries are really damn good.

1. Get a CFW on your 3DS
2. Buy 64GB SD
3. Download what you want either through freeShop or rom sites
4. Get emulators for 3DS (GBA, NES, SNES etc.) and downlaod games
5. Get a flashcart for DS games (10-15 USD)
6. Download DS games on the 4GB SD card that comes with 3DS
7. If you played every waking hour, you still wouldnt get bored

Take a PC and pirate games. Even with a shit connection you can still emulate games and download new ones.

Just a few games that won't require an internet connection to be enjoyable, and can provide plenty of distraction for the user who can make his own fun.

Just be warned, Skyrim tends to freeze up occasionally (something with the autosave, so you'll have to disable it and save manually OFTEN), and you won't have access to the best part of Mass Effect 3 (the multiplayer. My god, was it fun at its prime).

get all the emulators
enjoy ps1, psp, gba, gbc, gb, mega drive, nes, snes games
also get 3ds for ds and 3ds games or a ds, it has tons of good games

Get a cheap vita with 3.60. Get an expensive as fuck memory card and download some shit.

Don't. Have a break, read some books. Enjoy your freedom.
