Just started this game. Seems pretty fun, I like the gloomy victorian setting. I've never played any "souls" stuff before but it's quite entertaining. Not NiOH-level but still pretty good.

Do your best to avoid spoilers, user.

This, get out fool.

>gloomy victorian setting

Why is it so rare in video games ? did cogshit killed it ?

Bloodborne is superior to Nioh user. Don't be a hopeless fanboy.

Nioh is pure shit, witcher 3 tier unresponsive combat

Nioh's combat is more technical, maybe he likes that. Bloodborne at first impression might not be as appealing.

It is definitely not Witcher 3 tier.

This game is fucking garbage. Same boring shit the whole time, incomprehensible story unless you're some lorefag that spends days looking up shit. Zero emotional payoff, everything is just fuck.

Sure, but the game itself isn't really on the same level. Nioh is great. I imagine Nioh 2 will be fucking incredible. But Nioh is still a little rough around the edges.

I hope OP starts to realize the depth and variety BB offers with the various weapon movesets. There's a MASSIVE variety of attacks. I think each weapon has something like 20 different attacks.

yeah it is pretty good but i didnt like the second half

Well, that sounds very nice. So far I haven't figured out that many attacks, can you unlock more moves as you progress? The movement variety is one of main things I miss here.

Each weapon has its own distinct movesets.

Every move a weapon has can be used from the start. Try dodge-attacking, transforming mid-combo etc.

It isn't Nioh-tier, but it's compact and polished. People mostly enjoy souls games for their narrative and challenging difficulty, not mechanical diversity.

Nah, it's mostly just strong+light attacks for each of your weapon's forms. You do get a different attack depending on the context though, like hitting R1 when you're standing still gives a different attack then if you hit when you're running, which gives a different one then after a roll or after a quickstep or after a backstep et cetera. There's transformation attacks as well, when you hit L1 after R1 or after a dodge. It is fairly basic though, there's just the two buttons for offensive options.

Some weapons have cooler movesets though, you'll find more as you progress. Oh, and two-handed weapons like the transformed axe have an L2 attack. What weapon did you pick to start?

Basically, I dont' think Nioh is going to capable of memorable and engaging moments like fighting Ludwig or Logarius or Gehrman. It's got less focus on story and less overall style and bombast.

>can you unlock more moves as you progress?
Well as you find more unique weapons you'll get new movesets. I suggest experimenting with what you're using now. Did you realize you can do sprinting heavy attacks? Have you notice how some weapons have a special "post-transform attack" follow up swing? Have you tried backstep attacks?

Look at all these different moves. Some of them even have different properties, like the Bloodletter mace -> blood club transformation attack knocks people over.

If you were getting good at Nioh, you'll find BB piss easy once you learn the controls.

While the frames may be incredibly forgiving, it's still an amazing game with amazing fights.

Seems like very weapon with a thrust R2 in Bloodborne doesn't chain into anything else if you follow it up with another R2. It's just thrust, thrust, thrust. I like having a thrust attack available like that, but it seems strange since the movesets are generally more detailed than Dark Souls where there's usually a followup.

I went with the cleaver. The staff had C in skill, in which I plan to invest once I find some better weapons since I read spear and the like use skill scaling but I figured the cleaver might be better for the beginning.

Yeah, that's true. There's not many poking chains. Only Reiterpallasch and Rifle Spear offer reasonable poking options and even then, neither is good for followup R2 thrusts.

Good call, Cleaver is great (and has a hidden 20% damage buff against beast type enemies) and the Cane sucks early on and is easy to buy later.

>20% bonus
Only when in saw mode. You risk leading him astray

The Cleaver's transformed mode isn't twohanded, so its moveset isn't among the most diverse ones.

You'll find lots of different weapons later on. Bloodbornes opted for a reduced weapon amount to make sure each weapon is somewhat unique. But still, it you're looking for a mechanically complex game, you're gonna be disappointed.

>using cleaver mode
I did forget though, I usually go with the Saw Spear anyway.

I mainly use saw mode so that's good to hear, cleaver's range bonus nice so I should get a better hang of it.

The hunter axe is the best starting weapon, I picked the cleaver myself but watching others play with it I dunno, it just seemed op as fuck for early game.

He might find Blood Gems and Chalice Dungeons to be satisfying. Trying to make ideal gem setups can be pretty technical.

The moveset is great. Can't replace those enormous horizontal sweeps.

Transform attacks are usually exceptionally strong. Try to work in lots of them. An effective Saw Cleaver combo on a boss with a big opening is R1 L1 L1 L1 so you can spam those transform hits.

Saw Cleaver also has a pretty useful transformation attack. When you hit R1 and then L1 the second attack comes out as quick as an R1 but has the damage, range, and stagger of the longer form.

The charged R2 of the Cleaver is super useful, but I always miss the thrust attack. Plus, the Spear is serrated in both forms.

sorry that story wasnt spoonfed 2 you in super long cutscenes with lots of anime tiddies

Most transform attacks are stronger like that. I can't think of many that aren't above average strength. The saw weapons have the advantage of that animation being really short and spammable though. Not many others can effectively spam L1 attacks.

I did see a note or something about transform attacks but i had no idea they were really that useful. Thanks, definitely gonna start including them in my combos.

Final tip is that many weapons offer a charged R2 followup attack. Saw Cleaver is one and there's a few others. You know about charged attacks right? Just press R2 again after you let off the attack and you'll usually get an equally strong attack but without being asked to charge the strike up.
