Wii U had Monster Hunter 3U, Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 during its first year.
That alone is more games than I have for my PS4, which I bought near its launch

Zelda is on Wii U familia and they said it's gonna be the same experience.

I bought a Wii U at Walmart when they were having a sale. I got a deluxe edition for $250. This was right before Mario 3D world was released. I agree there are very few games on the system. I would be super pissed if i had paid $350 or whatever they were charging for it years ago.

Since I have a good PC, Wii U has been by far the best console for me this generation

So far my Wii U has done exactly what I wanted it to, be fun online or off with friends. I played it regularly for like 3 years straight. Only real disappointment I had with it was Star Fox 0 which was a huge POS and made me understand Paper Mario fans' hatred of Miyamoto.

Yes they are on PC, but 3rd party games are 99% of the reason why the ps4 sold so much. I personally dont care if the NX has 3rd party, but it needs it. A console with Melee2/metroid/zelda + 3rd party like KH3/FF15/whatever would be just ideal.

Shitpost detected, opinion discarded. PS4/Xbone don't have many more games than Wii U and their libraries are padded out with PS3/360 ports and rereleases. There are maybe 600 games for either available to actually buy, including indies, not much better than Wii U. For comparison the OG Xbox had more games in its four years than the Xbone will.

To be fair the only even remotely credible rumor is that EG leak and even that is murky at-best. We have no solid proof whatsoever. It'd make sense for a hybrid, but with a few exclusives named for the 3DS in 2017, I have a hard time believing Nintendo would support their old consoles. That's unlike them.

You get way more current third party releases on other systems, vs waiting for whatever first party game nintendo has you waiting for that anymore may or may not be disappointment.

Well in regards to the software output since Nintendo doesn't have to put focus on 2 systems, and just shove all development on NX (though granted 3ds will still be supported for sometime) the potential for software draught will be lessened. Also hd pokemon among other things.

But getting the same games the competition already has and that historically don't sell well on Nintendo's platforms in the first place won't really help. 3rd-parties need to make new software and not just do lazy ports of games people will just play on PS4, but they're not going to do that.

All they want to make are the generic, safe AAA blockbusters that don't sell well with Nintendo so until that changes Nintendo isn't going to see much 3rd-party support. No one wants to take any risks with software anymore. Nothing like Billy Hatcher or Lost Kingdoms for Wii U that might actually sell okay, publishers would rather fund their next big safe blockbuster instead.

I ended up trading my Wii U for a PS4 with some guy on a group (he didnt like it, and he is a nintendrone), currently having a blast with the Ni-Oh beta.

All three consoles have too few games, even the original Xbox had more games in its first three years than Xbone does. Half of what we got for PS4 and Xbone until very, very recently have been ports and rereleases. So they both have fewer games than pretty much every one of their predecessors and a huge chunk of them aren't even new games to boot. 8th gen is just, by far, the worst console cycle ever. Fewer games and mountains or ports and old games we already played.

All they care about is selling copies, obviously, and since the console market is shrinking they're taking fewer risks. That means little beyond what they know will sell millions of copies, and that's your AAA blockbuster or your Skylanders that does actually release and sell well on Nintendo's platforms, including the original Wii. If anything weaker hardware is better for them if it still has the install base and audience they want, that means lower development costs. Look at mobile, lots of publishers are branching out because the development cost are next to nothing.

The problem is that these publishers got too big, they don't want to take any risks on smaller, niche games on platforms with smaller userbases anymore. Again the console market is shrinking, not growing, so they're trying to both stay as big as they are and make more and more money every year. They do this in part by not taking nearly as many risks with their games, they only make what is safe and almost guaranteed to return [X] amount of money. It has nothing to do with some 30 year old grudge, it's the state of the market right now. Fwer games are coming out for all platforms because publishers are blowing tens of millions on marketing and simply don't want to take any risks.

Gaming in general is astronomically more competitive than ever before. Not only do you have mobile taking up a huge portion of the market share, but you also have PC gaming along with stuff like twitch and youtube eating up people's attention.

It's disingenuous to compare the current reality to one from 15 years ago. To say that X sold less than Y isn't giving you a clear picture of the market that now has magnitudes more options to choose from on the consumer end.

You're completely right in the reason behind the drop, but that doesn't change the fact another will follow. There is no reason to be excited for the NX, there is no reason to be excited for it after how both the 3DS and the Wii U ended up. A decent output and a terrible one being solidified doesn't guarantee success, it hints at a further drop because parents buying handhelds for kids will see an overly expensive handheld and console people will see a weak console and it'll appeal to no one except the ever-decreasing Nintendo core.

Yes, that's what I fucking said. The reason behind it, however, is the state the entire industry is in right now, not just because Nintendo made a boo-boo and hurt some feewings in the 1990's and all the publishers are still asspained about it.

AGAIN, fewer games are being made across ALL platforms, because publishers are clamping down. 7th gen was an unprecedented high, now we're coming down off of that into what will likely be the lowest-selling set of consoles since the PS1/N64/Saturn era. 5th gen sold roughly 140 million consoles, 6th gen close to 200 million and 7th gen moved over 260 million consoles. 8th gen will not come anywhere close to these totals.

Even though the Gamecube and Xbox sold like dogshit compared to the PS2, they got comparable/better software support than even Xbone and PS4 are getting now in terms of raw numbers. And I don't need to point out that the PS2 also had a literal mountain of games with well over 3,000 titles by the end. PS4 has maybe 700 games to buy right now, Xbone and Wii U somewhere between 400 and 600 each. OG Xbox ended its life with over 1,000 games, I doubt the Xbone will hit that number.

Publishers don't want to take risks anywhere, not just with Nintendo. Developments costs have gone up, marketing costs are astronomical, fewer consoles and games are being sold than even five years ago but publishers still need to have a bigger and better bottom line or they lose investors. This is a systemic problem that spans much of the industry, not just a problem for Nintendo.

To be fair Wii U's launch sucked in part thanks to 3rd-parties. Nintendo intentionally held off because they thought they'd be getting support from 3rd-parties and then when it became apparent that wasn't happening all they had ready was NSMBU.

Rayman was supposed to be a huge launch exclusive but got delayed and wasn't exclusive, ME3 was $60 while 360 got the whole fucking trilogy for $40 at the same time, almost every 3rd-party port ran poorly and/or was missing content, like Sniper Elite 2, etc. The only good 3rd-party launch game that comes to mind is Deus Ex and it's still a rerelease of a game most people interested would have played already.

Nintendo didn't hold off on releasing games. The games weren't done. The system software wasn't even finished and required updates to make it feature complete for months.

They rushed the system to market hoping to buy markets are with time.

Also got my as the mario-maker bundle (not kidding) and I own 8 games and a lot of fun so far.

Nintendo needs to drop the PowerPC architecture if they want new games with new engines running on the NX. BC for games no one bought that require an special controller at least to start them is not a good hardware choice for the NX
