No, I consider it a time killer and treat. Hobbies I think aren't rooted in entertainment, but obsession and passion. There has to be physical skill and effort involved in a hobby.

Painting models or building shit is a hobby to me. Geocaching is how I end up exploring the area around my city. Playing music all afternoon is a hobby. Vidya is for after all that when I'm tired and need to relax.

I'm in the same boat. I consider cooking, lifting weights, and hunting to be my actual hobbies, but video games are my timesink of choice instead of TV or social media. is right though, some people do obsess over this stuff and for them I'd say it's definitely a hobby.

It's like that for you and other casual players, but not everyone is like that. There is plenty of obsession and passion involved when playing games seriously. There's a lot of people who put far more effort into practicing games than you do in your creative hobbies.
