What is it about Street Fighter that keeps people around?
What is it about Street Fighter that keeps people around?
You just posted it
Great assets
Tons of single player content, optimally functioning netcode and a wealth of gameplay mechanics to explore
Hype shit like parries, custom combos, 3-bar supers, Yun/Genei-Jin and FADC's.
Those are the sort of things I like about Street Fighter anyways.
it's probably the plot
to bad street fighter 5 has no good single player content
Marketing
That's the joke.
The girls
no this is
>tfw no thicc streetfighter gf
brand name and being a good game.
>continuing to live
>despite knowing this
why ?
I have emotional investment in some of the characters.
Damn man. I just want Dan to succeed. He tries so hard to make his father proud.
Everyone treats him like a joke a little unfairly. I hope a future SF makes him achieve a new level of growth. Like a goofy old master.
He probably has the highest potential of the series when you think even with his weak style he can qualify to fight the world's best.
When games like Skullgirls and Guilty Gear exist? I have no idea.
Its one of the few actually balanced fighting games that always feels like the matches are fair instead of most fighters with a 35+ character roster with only four characters actually worth playing.
You know the one i'm talking about.
yap nash is grate
Nor functioning online or gameplay mechanics deep enough to explore
I haven't played V. Is Zangief still as trash as everyone said he was?
Because it's the oldest so that means it's good and you're really hardcore if you play it.
Just like Counter-Strike, right?
Street Fighter allows it's basic mechanics, which are beautiful and refined, to come through the gameplay in a way most 2D fighters don't do. It's also why I tend to like games like Super Turbo, Alpha 2, and SFV, over Third Strike, Alpha 3, and SFIV.
The only other fighting games that have this mechanical purity are Virtua Fighter, Tekken, and a few SNK titles.
Literally the things I don't like about Street Fighter in one post. I know some people want to have ridiculously powerful tools on their hands, but I like my games minimalist and basic. Hell, I wasn't too keen on Super Meters when added in ST.
...
Tournament Money
No one would touch SF if it weren't for the money and the forced Evo hype to keep people playing.
Out of the "Great" fighting games of all time, there are more Street Fighter games among them than any other franchise. The game has a legacy of producing great fighting games in a way that no other franchise has been able to match. Only KOF and Tekken come close, and even then, they fall short.
Yeah, he's pretty bad. Most serious Gief players have moved to Alex, because he's got a neutral game, and can get in. It's worth not having as much damage. Alex is also much harder to play, so beginner Giefs still remain.
sounds about right
Do I get a massive ass from street fighting?
Ryu, Chun, Ken, Nash, Karin, Cammy, Mika. If you aren't playing one of these you're just setting yourself up for failure.
na only nash
Cammy isn't that good, Vega is better than her, and Mika is going to get nerfed hard later on, not a good character to invest in.
SF2 is cemented in Pop Culture. It's the name everyone knows, but even then all it gets to be is the most popular item of a niche genre.
no
daigo said cammy is top 5
so enjoy the new memes
>no necalli
objective tier list coming though
Nash
Chun Li
Karin
Ryu
Ken
R.Mika
Necalli
Vega
Cammy
Birdie
Dhalsim
Guile
M.Bison
Juri
Balrog
Rashid
Alex
Ibuki
Urien
Laura
Fang
Zangief
It's more about the ground game and base mechanics of fighting games rather than all about tech, going really out there with characters and crazy mechanics. Even 4 that was more tech heavy still focused on the basics
This means pretty much anyone who likes the genre can pick up and get into it, even if it isn't their favourite game
>yunfag
Literally cancer
V has shit fundamentals though, it's all about braindead pressure. That's what you get when you have a slow game with short limbs, 8frames of input lag, and no execution.
imma gonna die
please no more motherly hips
I'd much rather have Yun than have custom combos so everyone needs to play like Yun to be good. Street fighter is better when it's a few hits with strict timing for juggles and combos, rather than anime fighting game style combos where you push a lot of buttons but the timing is easy.
I'd much rather do a tackle tackle headbutt than some gay crouch cancel combos in alpha 3.
On what plane of existence is Nash better than Chun
so street fighter is a game to not have fun
Nah fuck that. Street Fighter is better when it's about spacing, zoning, footsies, but multiple playstyles all in all with a focus on fundamentals. Super Street Fighter 4 was great for the most part until arcade edition came along. And now we have Rushdown Fighter V that we're stuck with.
Our plane. Chun is only great in V-trigger, nash is more well rounded. Characters who rely on their v-trigger rely too much on comebacks/suck at bodying. Every match is somewhat close which is risky. It's why ibuki and urien suck.
The plane of existence where a Chun player makes a tier list maybe. Although I wouldn't say either of them are the best character in the game. Ryu is. Chun is #2 but I respect people that say she's #1. Nash is around 4th or 5th. Definitely not as good as Ryu, Chun, and Karin.
You're an idiot and this isn't even what was being discussed.
Super had shit fundamentals and you don't know what fundamentals are. Hyper fighting and ST are what you play if you want fundamentals above all else.
>Nash is more well rounded
How so? He's closer to being a glass cannon than Chun with his lack of an invincible reversal and a 3 frame normal, Chun has a weaker fireball game but a better defense. If anything, she's more wellrounded. And that's before you take her superior normals into account.
Ryu is a meme.
Recognizable characters and the fact normies want to fit in, they don't know a thing about street fighter but they will always recognize the characters.
...
The basic idea of the games are easy to grasp. Things like Revelator, while certainly more polished than SFV, looks like a clusterfuck with an impenetrable wall for casual players. Even things like USFIV which have a ton of complicated things still look more comprehensible most of the time, since the actual complex stuff isn't seen surface level.
This isn't exactly some mystery.
her normals aren't better than Nash at all all she has is her dumb s.FP. Reversals suck in 5, as does mashing jab past being a silver shitter. You shouldn't be lettling them knocking you down and pressuring in the first place. nash Vtrigger teleport or even v-reversal let him get out of pressure free if they do.
>calling nash a glass cannon when his damage is average compared with a low health character like chun
Still requires fundimentals more than 90% of other 2D fighting games, even with being much more pressure oriented.
Vega, Necalli, Guile, and Balrog aren't top tier, but they're definitely viable, and to count them out would be like to count out a character like Ken in USF4, or Akuma in 3S. They aren't the obvious favs, but they still could win a major in the right hands.
Super had the best fundimentals in a Street Fighter game since Alpha.
>ST is fundamentals before all else
Go fight against a wall dive 50/50 Vega. I'll wait.
>started playing again after two weeks absence
Was the average player always this fucking dumb? Jesus Christ.
How? He isn't reliant on meter at all and can have a critical art ready every round. His jump-ins have good priority, he has a great forward dash, and huge damage potential with and without meter. He's also one of the few characters with a meterless invincible reversal.
I got pretty tired of following/playing V, but I thought Ken was a top 3 character? What happened to that talk?
Ken has alot of punishable stuff in his pressure, it's just that players don't actually end up pushing for it. He's a very good scrubkiller, but he's also a strong character in the game. Not top 3 though, since there are more than that above him.
>wall dive is 50/50
>he doesn't know how to OS reversal
lol again you don't know what fundamentals are. Protip it's basic execution. games that don't rely on basic execution (reversals, specials, supers) don't need fundamentals. Footsies aren't fundamentals because they don't translate the same way to other games.
>Nash vtrigger lets him get out of pressure free
Not at all. It gets stuffed by meaties. V-reversal can also be baited and thrown even though it's difficult. He's still top 5 and difficult to deal with even if you know the matchup, but I can't help but think that people that say he's #1 are just struggling with the gimmicks.
And by glass cannon I meant that he has good mixups and offense while having a weak wakeup game and defense. You can frame trap him for free and bully him on his wakeup almost for free.
I wouldn't put Ken in top 5 but he does get away with a lot of shit with 8frames. He's top 8 now but he may or may not fall off after that gets patched and Ken has to play more honest.
>What is it about Street Fighter that keeps people around?
This.
>Juri main
>play Gold Cammy
>when he's not pressing buttons, he's mashing DP during block strings
>catches me off guard in the first round
>punish it in the second round three times in a row
>mashes throw instead of DP in the third
>finally adapt with little life left
>he goes right back to mashing DP during block strings
>denies the runback
I'm an even bigger idiot for not seeing through it earlier, but still.

>Juri main

Good gameplay and the best character designs.
Why?
Nostalgia and the fact that it's babies first fighting game.
Their well developed characters.
You should make more webms from his last videos, he did Mika's crit with a camera angle from above.
ok i will
I just want her to sit on my face while I call her mom
so is anybody even looking at this
...
...
>stubby normals, gets bullied by most of the other top characters as well as some of the characters below him
>simple and predictable character
>crappy crush counters
Ryu is one of the top characters in the game because of his damage, but he doesn't get that damage for free and he isn't easy mode at all
...
The answer is right in front of you OP.
